Assists is a weak stat, a fair amount of those goals are from the spot too.

Assists is a weak stat? How does that work? Strikers are judged on goals, and to score goals, they need someone to be supplying them. Bale has supplied one in the league this season. And while not a dig at Bale as I know he has put in some wonderful crosses only for our strikers to contrive to miss glorious chances, the fact is Young has supplied a bagful of goals for a very average Villa strike force over the last 4 years.

Imagine Lennon had 8 goals and 15 assists this season? We'd be all over that and claiming he was player of the year.
