I want to see an inquiry into how Villa didn't get a red card in that match. Inconsistent refereeing to say the least.
I'd be embarrassed to call myself a footballer if I commited some of the tackles I saw today and I'd be embarrssed to call myself a referee if I'd lost control of a match so soon after kick off. Had a great view today, could properly see how shit some of the Villa players were, Douglas Luiz especially, he wasn't even any good at trying to be a donkey, he kept missing when he was swinging wildly at our players.

This is going to sound weird -so bear with me - but, in the first half, when Spurs were under siege, it felt different to me.

I have seen Spurs in similar situations when you just knew that the individual error was coming, and it would lead to a goal conceded. But, even though Villa kept pressuring the goal, and forcing Lloris into a few brilliant saves, it never felt like Spurs were out of control. It always felt, to me, like everyone was covering for everyone else well enough to withstand the pressure.

It was tense watching - but I never felt like the equalizer was imminent.
That's what happens when you play Gandalf in goal. YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

On balance what i learned from today was:

Lloris saved more certain goals than Son scored.

Romero will eventually reduce King, Mabbutt, Verts and Toby to mere mortals in Spurs folklore.

We do require a right wingback.

Other than that, Conteball has arrived!

Not too shabby for a team that, according to some on here, needs a total overhaul.

This team feels diffferent to the peak Poch era. Back then, we had some really good players, but the whole ethos was one of pure effort and hard work. We’d press and overwhelm teams and under immense pressure the opposition would eventually crack. But when we came up against a team that would withstand the pressure, then we’d struggle to break them down.

With Conte’s team, there is an obvious emphasis on hard work, but there are distinct patterns in our play that you can recognise too. I think what we see with Son and Kulu at the moment is what we might have seen from our wingbacks if we had the typical Conte style of wingback. We don’t have that yet, so Son and Kulu are the ones that are doing the hard yards and subsequently why they’re the ones that get subbed off as opposed to Kane.

Kane has become crucial in the way we play, not because we need him to score, but because he is the one most likely to unlock a stubborn defence.

I think that Sess is the most likely out of our current crop of wingbacks to become the sort of player that Conte wants at wingback, but this will very much depend upon his fitness and injuries. Doc is improving and I think there are two reasons for this;

1. He is benefitting from being coached by one of the best in the world, and
2. The arrival of Kulu means he has a player in front of him who is going to create space for Doc and also draw defenders away from him in much the same way Traore benefitted him at Wolves

Even Royal has looked an improvement (in my opinion) looking at his performance over the last two games. It just remains to be seen whether for four guys we have can be coached into what we need before next season starts or do we go out and buy.

The upshot, I suppose is that there is an element in Conte’s team that echos Poch in that he’s demanding and requires 100% from his players, but I think there is something more in Conte’s team that I don’t think we had with Poch and I’m hopping it is that which will make the difference when it comes to finally winning something. It will be telling when we play Burnley again whether we learnt our lessons from our last match with them and see if we come out on top this time.

Hopefully we can unearth 2 or 3 more signings that will have the impact that Romero, Kulu and Bentancur have had in the summer.

That does sound weird! To me it was just a matter how f time to they scored!

Rewatched some of the post game analysis on Sky and how embarssing was Souness? Couldn't stop mentioning how lucky Spurs was in each phase of the analysis and when praising Kane it always have to follow whether he will stay at Spurs next season, and how he would want to show medals to his future grand children. What about Conte? Well apparently there is a big job available in Manchester for him and maybe he will take Kane with him..:banghead:

On the other hand. how does it sound when Spurs are the better team and ending up losing to a couple of screamers?

A performance of two halves. An early goal followed by an absolute battering for the majority of the half but Hugo and the defence stood up strong and got to half time to allow The Godfather to sort it out and then we ran out the most unlikely 4-0 winners you will ever see. Once we had that second goal you could see the confidence and passing (which had deserted us) return with a veangence. I just love watching this team play, they played for each other throughout and stuck together in the difficult moments. Kulusevski was so good in that second half and Son's finishing was devastating. It felt like he scored every chance he got today. Two more assists from Kane and it is evident that our front three is as good as any trio in the world of football right now in terms of productivity. I have never known such a goal laden spell and I have been watching Tottenham since the 80s. 25 goals in seven games is absolutely outrageous. Grazie Conte.

Early goal aside, the first half was pretty hairy. Villa were clearly emboldened by the referee's inability to deal with some of the challenges. Davies caught late, Doherty kicked out of the game by Cash and Kulusevski nearly snapped in half by Mings. On slow-mo it really looks like a leg breaker. Cash and Mings in particular could easily have seen red. Ref did nothing, except book Hjobjerg for nothing. The fear of being smashed into led to errors, the crowd was up for it and Villa players saw it was working. Lloris did really, really well.

Second half, however. Totally different story. No goals from Villa probably left them feeling deflated and that 2nd goal sucked the air out of the stadium. It was much easier from then on. Whatever was said at HT really did the trick. Probably something about staying calm, don't retaliate, be sensible. Having a coach like Conte and his team, players from Serie A and maybe even players brought up in the kind of football culture where you sometimes need to beat the officials as well as the opponents probably really helped them be smarter and make better choices. Ruthless finishing though! Kane as provider, Kulusevki as the worker and Son as the finisher was absolutely lethal.

Ashley Young was maybe lucky not to receive more than a yellow. That first half was the dirtiest I've seen a team play this season - yet the Opposition Fans thread is full of yet more comments about how snide and dirty Spurs are. Mad...

Perhaps it's time to stop doubting this Conte side? The amount of people I saw on here and twitter go on about how we would obviously mess this up after results went our way because of the past was astonishing.

Conte is changing the players' mentality, but fans need to change as well along with them.

It’s partly because of the pessimistic narrative around the club perpetuated by the media and bought into by our own fans. On social media the negativity is rife. But I don’t blame some of our fans for being like that, we’ve seen the team let us down so many times before when we’ve given them our trust. But also when we are doing well the media can’t quite give us all the credit or let it go without 100% praise. Eg. Kane playing well, then he has to leave. Some pundits can’t let us have him playing well, oh no, spurs aren’t allowed that. The best thing everyone can do is turn them off and not listen to them.

But yes, let’s give the players and especially the manager a bit more faith and support. Let’s see if we’ve got that in us over the next month and a half and see where it takes us. The home games are starting to sell out again, the fans need to get behind the side.

In the space of an hour, Graeme Souness has said Conte can take no positives out of the game, claimed Aston Villa deserved to win based on the statistics, stereotyped all Italian managers as being defensive and theorised that, despite Kane constantly saying he would stay as long as he sees progress and ambition, a conversation has taken place between Levy and Kane’s people about allowing him to leave.

Get this fucking dinosaur off the television. He’s a fucking imbecile.

Sky Sports need a huge clear out of pundits, presenters, interviewers and commentators. Trouble is they’ll just replace them with a load of no talent YouTubers like they have on SSN.
