I don't think for a second it is the best volley ever. Get's the most praise but not technically the best. Keeper should definitely be saving it then it wouldn't be talked about at all.

As for best volley's ever, I think Zola and Sinclair would both have a case to be classed as better.

Ignoring their respective situations bale's is probably the most technically difficult to hit so I'm gonna go with him

He just had to hit it back across the goal. Keeper should have done much better, Gomes would have saved it, nobody could have saved Bale's. :razz:

You are really trying to convince us arent you? While I respect your opinion about Bale's goal as the best of the three, I and others think that Van Basten is better. Would you be fawning over it so much had Bale been playing for Chelsea or Arsenal? I doubt it somehow.

Their all crackers but I'd say Van Bastens is the best, although bales is probably the sweetest struck (and how high was his leg? incredible) and Di Canio's was just a moment of pure improvisation (and a lovely pass).

All three are crackers to be honest

This is one of the best goals ever scored imo. It's a CL final, it's his weaker foot and the ball is so high in the air.

Of the 3 other, I'd say:

1. Van Basten
2. Bale
3. Di Canio

Garm, spot on mate :clap:. That Zidane goal is just beautiful and the occasion would just make scoring it so, so special.

Of the others, I've always loved the Di Canio goal; the sheer improvisation of it...genius. All fantastic strikes.

Of the four shown so far I'd go:

1. Zidane - hardest degree of difficulty and control by far of the four.
2. Bale - again unlike VB or Di Canio who could strike from under the ball Bale had to strike from the side in an uncomfortable position and still put power and control on it. technique wise harder.
3. VB - a great strike but it was under the ball - you striker it sweet and the trajectory does the work.
4. DiCanio - keeper should have saved it.

Bales was easier than Di Canios because he could open his body up, and he had one foot standing. It's a volley you will see 20 times a season through the leagues. Great goal, a worldie, but I've seen it done on a Saturday afternoon in front of 58 fans.

Van Bastens was so good, because of the acute angle, the ball was coming from behind him, and the power was awesome. not to mention it won the Euro Champs.

Zidanes, awesome, wrong foot, not coming across him so difficult to get over it. Fantastic.



Di Canio's was so audacious, only a genius could score it.
