Dawson has shown fighting spirit to get back into avbs plans, benny obviously did not. Its that simple i think. Both players are not good enough imo

Fighting spirit yes, ability, no.

Dawson, Walker, Rose and BAE are/were all sub-average.

I went to QPR on Saturday. He looked as though he couldn't give a shit. Kevin Bond was on at him giving him instruction at pretty much every break in play during the 2nd half. He made a lot of silly mistakes and gave the ball away in dangerous areas. Luckily Barnsley are absolute shite. If Harry can't motivate him then you can see why AVB has reportedly got a problem with his attitude.

As a side note Niko needs to lose about 2 stone I'd say. He was dire.

No sign of JJ. Carroll playing far too deep for me. Kept showing for the ball. Probably had the most touches but they were all short and sideways. Funnily enough QPR played the same way we have been. Slow, lots of possession and little penetration.

People were under some illusion that Harry's team played wonderful football because of Harry when in reality it was about 70% Modric 28% Bale and VDV and 2% H. Playing good football is not just playing short sided games and telling players to Run around a bit...

Painfully obvious we were short at left back when the transfer window slammed shut... I made this point and was slaughtered for it! Rose has been great and actually exceeded expectation but which side challenging top four put a young lad they had out on loan last year as their first choice left back ? And leave him with cover of an u tried kid (fryers) and a right back (naughton) he who will never be a left back EVER! He didn't once make contact with his left foot yesterday! Not once ! Played like a scared kid !!!!! Really poor from AVB....

Not it's playing players out of position.

We could of even played Chiriches/Sandro as a 3rd CB yesterday with Townsend at wing back, Chadli ahead of him, change the system because of injury.
Playing a right footer at LB when chasing a CL spot is lunacy, for the 2nd season running when so much thought was put into our attacking players is lunacy x 100.
I don't think it has much to do with a right footer at LB more so that LB is not his natural position.

Young- pyo was a right footed left back

I don't really see the point of the whole BAE debate. AVB has seemingly decided what we have is better than him, I don't see how that will ever change.

But what I will say is Rose brings us a determination, comaradery and urgency t our game from left back. This is not always a good thing, but in comparison to Naughton's more conservative approach - I know which I prefer.

Rose would have made a big difference on Sunday too (I never thought I would say anything like that before this season).

Rose is the future. I have been really im pressed with the lad. Not quite the full bottle just yet but lots of potential and the attitude is fantastic. BAE is not up to it anymore. Dont know why.

Thats gone real well for them

2 titles in 5 years (one being an unbeaten season) with him as their starter, only out of the top 2 once and he only played 11 times that year. Yeah it went quite well.

I am worried less by our lack of cover at left wingback than I am at AVB's refusal to change his system to address this shortcoming.

If you are forced to play Naughton or Vertonghen as left fullbacks you can't expect them to provide the attacking width, which means you have to sacrifice Siggurdsson and play someone who is goiing to get wide more. I would have played Townsend on the left and either Chadli or Lamela on the right. But then that is AVB, more interested in fitting players to his ssystem, than in finding the system that works best with the players available.

AVB does seem a bit stubborn . I'm about 10 years older than AVB and over that period of ones life one matures a lot . I wonder who he turns to for advice and whether he still talks with people he considers his mentors ?

I have always been prejudiced against one upfront , especially at home , and think 4-4-2 is the best to watch so am perhaps not impartial enough to pass judgement on the current attacking layout .

For me Siggurdsson offers extremely high intensity over about 60 minutes but not 90 which I don't see as a problem . Along with the much maligned Dempsey , Siggurdsson seemed to consistently produce the goods last season - even when the team was not set up to play to their strengths .

I like Dembele's directness too but he doesn't seem to have fully overcome the injury he sustained a year ago .

Eddiebailey , do you reckon AVB will bring Adebayor into the side soon and play him alongside one of our shorter strikers ?

I actually think Ade could fill the left wing position in AVB's system, as Kane has done on ocassion. Ade has always had a tendency to drift wide, and under AVB the leftwinger is I think intended in part to provide aerial threat and contribute to the hold up play.

Thanks for that, really puts AVB's decision in context! I guess we all think another player would be better than an out of position player, but maybe having Benny at the moment would make no differnce?
