AVB does seem a bit stubborn . I'm about 10 years older than AVB and over that period of ones life one matures a lot . I wonder who he turns to for advice and whether he still talks with people he considers his mentors ?

I have always been prejudiced against one upfront , especially at home , and think 4-4-2 is the best to watch so am perhaps not impartial enough to pass judgement on the current attacking layout .

For me Siggurdsson offers extremely high intensity over about 60 minutes but not 90 which I don't see as a problem . Along with the much maligned Dempsey , Siggurdsson seemed to consistently produce the goods last season - even when the team was not set up to play to their strengths .

I like Dembele's directness too but he doesn't seem to have fully overcome the injury he sustained a year ago .

Eddiebailey , do you reckon AVB will bring Adebayor into the side soon and play him alongside one of our shorter strikers ?

Err WTF.
Siggy offers nothing unless he scores, i personally think he unbalances the team when he plays on the left. Him and paul should be fighting it out for the cm spot. they are similar players.
Dembelle directness at doing what exactly? beating 3 or four and the being back were he started.
If he had the final ball or actually did something with the possession, like scoring he would be world class.
He slows the play right down and allows the opposition to get back into shape. not what i call directness.
Forget Ade lets concentrate on the future and the players we bought to take us in that direction.

People were under some illusion that Harry's team played wonderful football because of Harry when in reality it was about 70% Modric 28% Bale and VDV and 2% H. Playing good football is not just playing short sided games and telling players to Run around a bit...

true ... unless you have modric, bale, and van der vaart.

You think his judgement is wrong then, as AVB gave Dawson a new contract last week?

There is nothing wrong with changing your mind about something when you get more/better information. It's actually a really good trait to have.

What about the good football QPR play? Probably because it's just the championship?

And Portsmouth? Probably because of all the money they spent?

Its easy to explain everything away as nothing to do with Harry but he is a good manager who plays attractive football.

I thought i'd heard that they (QPR) were playing the slow meaningless/aimless (according to some) stuff that we play under AVB?

Not the swashbuckling uber inventive stuff that we played under Modric, VDV and Bale Harry

And only one striker and a 5 man midfield :D

You are right that it is a bit of a myth that we have made great strides tactically under AVB. When everyone was fit we played with one striker and a five man midfield most of the time under Harry, though Harry was a bit less rigid in his instructions, and a bit more flexible in setting up the side to fit the personnel available and counter the strengths of opponents. It is true that the flair of Hary's team had a lot to do with the players rather than the manager, but AVB's basic gameplan is to set up high and narrow and squeeze the opponents into making mistakes, or, if that doesn't work pepper the goal from distance.

Siggy balances it just fine. It's the lack of an overlapping LB that's the problem. Had Rose been fit, Rose would've offered an option on the wing and so we wouldn't be playing so narrow all the time. No width vs West Ham, because Walker wasn't fit enough and Naughton isn't a left sided player. Don't blame Siggy for AVB wanting to use players who'll cut inside with attacking wingbacks.IMO Siggy has done just fine and from what I could tell linked up with Soldado and Eriksen pretty well.

Errr yes lets discuss sunday.
We as supporters who pay there wages indirectly through merchandise and going to games.
I think were entitled to vent our frustration.
Siggy did the invisible man impersonation on the left, a very good one aswell i might add.
And personally think he would be better in the middle of the park.

Yes, rather like people are under the illusion that Nicholson was a great manager when it was really Greaves, Smith, Blanchflower, Jones, White, Mackay, Norman et al who deserve the credit.

Infantile.
