2. They wont buy anyone until the new manager's brought in, and I think Levy will want the Berba situation sorted before then.

They already have a new manager.. Pep Guardiola is taking over.. after just one seasons experience as manager.. of Barcas B team.. going to be fun to see what he can do next season..

£25 million try £30+, and thats why only a handfull of clubs are in a position to pay it, take away the fact that of those clubs, theres possibly 3 or 4 who actually want him, his choices are limited. Maybe hes waiting for say Real Madrid to come in for him as his prefered choice or Manu. He would be stupid to go to a club he doesnt actually want to go to, hence why, if at all he wants to go, he hasnt gone yet. I truly believe he will be here next season, maybe not by his own choice, but mainly because his prefered choice doesnt want him. Its obvious the reason its gone on so long is hes waiting for the club he wants to come in for him, personally i think hes got a long wait, i just hope they dont come in 2-3 weeks before the start of next season. If i was Levy i would give him a deadline, sign a new contract or sell him to the highest bidder, wether its his choice or not. He has to make a stand against him and his agent, and i call on Daniel Levy now to make public hithe truth, so everyone knows the situation, and the constant rumours can stop, and we can build for next season with or without Berbs.

For some reason I dont think we will get 'Fair Value' of say 25/30m for Berba due to his attitude/body language. The big clubs will wonder whether he has the bottle to do the business at the very top. Lets be honest, he's not really under pressure at Spurs as we're not competing at the very top of the league or CL so given the attitude that he conveys I think he's preceived as a somewhat risky purchase even though he's technically one of the best. I'd love him to stay, dont get me wrong, but i wonder where his head will be if he doesnt get the move that he APPEARS to crave. So, i fear we may have to accept in the region of 20m as the situation reaches a head in the coming weeks. Mind you, if we can sign one of Eto or Villa we will probably all forget about it in an afternoon!

Hi xtrac :) - contracts work both ways - we can't just sell Berbs unless he wants to go to a particular club

we had all this with Defoe for months- people kept saying just sell him seemingly oblivious to the fact (though I and others kept pointing it out) that Defoe had a contract

it was only when JD got sufficiently fed up/enamoured of the South coast that the deal went through (of course it had to be to our liking too - and presumably was)

For example if this much rumoured £32m bid for Berbs from city ever actually happened (unlikely I know) Levy might be very amenable but if Berbs says 'no thanks' Levy can't force him to go there - yes JR can put him in the reserves etc - but hardly helpful all round is it

Just speculating here, but to try to separate those clubs who are

1) A definite step up from us in stature and CL qualification prospects for the rest of Berb's career
3) All the rest of them

i'd say only Juve, Milan, Inter, Roma, Real, Barca, and the premiership top 4 fall into the first category. Of those I'd count out pool because they'll want to stick with their new five man midfield, and the scum because i think Berbatov is aware and honourable enough not to go there, aswell as several more reasons to discount each of them.

Of the rest, does anyone know how enamoured the Real hierachy actually still are with Van Nistelrooy?

I could see him going to Chelsea because despite their recent history Abramovich categorically wants more style and grace displayed by his playthings.

Barca want him I think, based on nothing more than a guess, and that's where I think he'd be happiest.

I saw an interview with Poyet on SSN where he said they've given Berba till the 2nd or 3rd July to make up his mind.

Believe me, Berbatov has until the transfer window comes down to make up his mind. Players such as RONALDO (the Brazilian) have had their transfers go thru right on the wire.

Yep totally agree, sorry frustration took over, but you make a good point regarding Defoe, do you not think we have contributed to this circus by not making a stand, and issuing the truth behind what actually is going on. I hear hes staying, ITKs are split, staff are unsure, its got out of hand and personally, it needs the club to make a statement, the Defoe saga was imo ridiculous, and shouldnt be used again with regard to Berba. Its okay everyone saying they want him to stay, but as Danchev is clearly vocal, so should Levy be.

clubs can just as easy do what we have done many time......wait as long as possible in the window and try to get him as chep as they can.i for one would be gutted to see him go, but if hes going, for are own good lets hope its done sooner so we can get on with things.if it does not happen soon lets hope hes staying....(but cant see it!!!)

I still say Levy should come out and set the record straight once and for all! wether hes stated hes staying or wants to go, at least players fans, Ramos and coaching staff would know exactly whats going on.

But it's been said somewhere today that AC will not increase their bid of 20 million.

Chelsea are not getting Berbatov. I would be amazed if he stays in the EPL.. with Man U being his best option (please no).

Here's hoping for another two seasons before AC Milan pay up.

In a couple of paragraphs.

Forget the agent, Berbatov is clearly unhappy at life in England, let alone Spurs. I think he would be happier in his homeland or nearer.

Happiness to the man must mean other things in his life. We'd have been relegated without Berbatov's contribution, remember that.

Good luck to him.

Berba' - Motivated/Content/Up-for-it/Competing for a place etc, gets in any club side in the world, & worth £25-£30mil + to Europe's big guns all day long..............

Berba' - Unsettled/Unfocused/Stale etc, still shows enough magic and is a match winner (between strops at lesser teamates & long idle spells) for a club like us.

Doubt any Spurs fan could begrudge Berbs' moving on to the likes of Barca/Milan/Inter etc, playing in an enviroment to best show his true world class talent.

A bitter pill to swallow, true, but a realism of where our club are presently at.

fuck off we would have been relegated without his contribution... in some ways we would have been better off as we wouldnt have been playing as a one man team with everything going through him...
