Depends on opposition and tactics but I would take:

--------------------Lloris----------------------
Walker-----Kaboul---------Vertonghen----Rose-- Chiriches close to the team, LB a problem
-------------------Sandro---------------------- Also like Capoues abilities
-----------Holtby-------------Eriksen----------- Dembele at his best against top teams always in it
------Lamela--------Soldado------Chadli-------- Depends if they can click. Townsend a good alternative

Also like Sigurdsson and Paulinho but prefer the others.

But is Dawson in a 'proper defensive system' better than Kaboul or Ciriches?

I don't think so.

And I'm not sure I even agree that Dawson is good in a 'proper defensive system'.

Incidentally, I've just seen Dawson at Westfield.

He walked past me and I, not being sure it was him, said "Michael". He looked round and waved. I did the only cool thing to do in these situations. Smiled and gave him the thumbs up.(y)

I didn't have a chance to tell him he'd be my 4th choice centre back.:cautious:

Lloris
Walker- Kaboul (if fully fit) Vertonghen- Rose
Paulinho -Sandro/Dembele
Lamela- Eriksen- Townsend
Soldado
Subs: Friedel, Chiriches, Capoue, Chadli, Lennon, Holtby, Defoe
If Kaboul is not fully fit then Chiriches should play. If we are playing a better team and need more defensive protection then Sandro should play- if not, Dembele should play. I was dithering between Chadli and Townsend but if Townsend stops shooting then I think his pace and crossing ability means he should be in the team,

My Ideal first XI would be.

Lloris
Walker Vlad Vertonghen Rose
Sandro Paulinho
Lamela Eriksen Townsend
Soldado

Subs: Friedel, Kaboul, Capoue, Dembele, Lennon, Holtby, Ade

At a rare time we have everyone fit I still don't have space for Defoe/Dawson/Chadli on the bench. Really have got alot of players, possibly too much.

Don't know why all of you are bothering with these fancy systems. Tim Sherwood is picking the Teams now. So back to 4-4-2 it is.

I'm guessing:

Lloris

Walker Dawson Verts Rose
Lennon Sandro Dembele Townsend
Ade Defoe/Soldado

The sale of eriksen, chadli, lamela, paulinho and holtby in the summer.

Yes you guessed it I'm still depressed!

I thought our youth all played 433/4231... Our am I mistaken? What makes you think TS will go 442? Genuine question.

Only too much when injuries go our way. But since we are Spurs we can guarantee that won't be the case. Agree with the selection. If Kaboul could get back to his best he might slot in and I would like to see a lot of Holtby. But think that will be as good as it gets.

If I was made manager tomorrow (I've got my final interview tonight, so it might be sorted in time), I'd play this side against West Ham:

Lloris
Walker Chiriches Capoue Rose
Sandro Holtby
Lamela Eriksen Townsend
Soldado

Bench: Friedel, Veljkovic, Fryers, Dembele, Lennon, Chadli, Defoe
Lamela and Townsend would be instructed to not change sides. Townsend must stay wide. Aim to hit the byline 90% of the time and whip in low balls for Soldado. Lamela would play more of an inside role - his main job would be to hit the back post for Townsend's crosses, or pick up the ball from Walker / Holtby / Eriksen and try his tricky runs inside. As soon as he hits the penalty area, nobody will want to tackle him, and hopefully Walker would be overlapping and give us a 2 v 1 situation. Walker will naturally get forward more than Rose, so we can afford to let Lamela drop inside more without losing the width on that side. Eriksen would be told to take every set piece from within 30 yards of the goal, and every corner. We do play the high line, but only if Chiriches and Rose are fit. Sandro would be very much an anchor. He'd have to be prepared to drop in at CB when either full back (or Vlad) bomb forward. If Walker goes forward, Vlad drops into RB and Sandro CB. If it's Rose, Capoue covers the left, Sandro drops in for him. Holtby has unlimited energy so he'd do the box to box role. He has a completely free role. Soldado scores.

I've always felt that in the Walker and Rose we have great attaching wing backs and that we should be exploiting that more. AVB seemed to insist that only one is allowed to attack at a time which seems counter productive to me. Because if only one is going forward, the wide forwards on the opposite wing need to create the width and so isolate Soldado so that when the wing back does cross it, he's alone and against 3/4 men. Having the men behind Soldado being there to support him and not occasionally be wingers would lead to a much more balanced side. Then added to that we have Kaboul and Vert both of whom are comfortable playing right and left back and so capable of slotting in when Walker and Rose go forward. Which is why I'd be more inclined to play a 5-1-3-1 formation.

Lloris
Kaboul, Chiriches, Vert
Walker Rose
Sandro
lamela eriksen siggy
Soldado

Our main problem has been getting players in around Soldado so we can play football through their defense, because we do have the quality to do it. I think brainy footballers like Siggy/Lamela/Eriksen would relish the opportunity and would excel in the freedom they would have in the role.

But then again, since Kabouls knees are on the way to Ledley town(just like Sandro for that matter too) and we have Dembele/Capoue/Paulinho I highly doubt that this formation would be utilized.

Why are so many people putting Lamela in? Is based on hoping he is good, or based on what you have seen so far?
Because the alternative is Lennon, and lets face it, he is got enough.

You got two choice, stick with the old who has been woefully inconsistent or bed the new and exciting in. This being either Lamela or Fredrisks (who was originally a winger).

Even if have a new manger (Who I really don;t like and trust), lets move things forward on the pitch too.
