If it changes it will go to Woodgate, I really don't think Keane is a captain.

If King can play a proper season, then keep it as it is.

If he can't then pass the armband to Woodgate.

I love Robbie K. But I'm of the school that believes a striker doesn't make for a good captain, purely because it's difficult to read the game from the front. It's not a reflection of his captaining ability (although I think he may be a little too volatile for the job), it's a question of logisitics. A defender can see all of his men, a midfielder is more involved with the running of the game, whereas a striker's job, no matter how creative he may be, is to face the opposition goal and use his skill to hit the target, I feel that a striker being captain splits the player's focus.

18 of the 20 Premiership sides have either a midfielder or defender as captain. The exceptions are Newcastle with Owen and Fulham with McBride.

The final alternative is to have two vice-captains below King, with Woodgate getting the armband ahead of Keane, should Ledders not be available.

If Ramos decides he'd name someone new I wouldn't rule out Zokora either.

I wouldn't rule out Keano either. He has been the choice of Jol, Ramos, Staunton and Trappatoni so he must have something.

Keano is an experienced and respected member of the squad, I would have no objection for his captaincy, if it wasn't for the fact that we already have an outstanding captain in Ledley King. Who captained the 5-1 win over Arsenal?, Who captained that turnaround in the league cup final? And after he got injured where did are season go. I know we've seen very little of King recently because of injuries. But he's Spurs through and through, other than Berbatov he's the only player that the big 4 would take off of us in seconds if they could and he's a proven leader. Wait till he's back next season and I'm sure we'll see the appreciation return.

I think Rez summed it up the best. I can understand keeping him, for continuities sake, but thats it. Keane has experience, and he's a model pro. He got the armband as he was the next longest serving player, but I don't honestly think thats enough, or that he's the best option for it.

It's merely tokenistic. The captains armband doesn't mean everyone without it has to shut up, it basically means you lead the team out.

Woodgate is a leader whether he has an armband on or not. Stick with Ledley unless he's not gonna come back in which case I'd stick with Keane.

When you think of Tottenham you think of Keane and King. 2 players who have been here for years and will hopefully be here for years to come. Stick with them.

Far from it i feel. Anyone could have the armband and lead the team out, you are correct, but a captain does or should do alot more than that! you are correct in that everyone else shouldnt shut up and everyone should be talking, but if a player is playing poor and his head goes down, and few players try and geer him up, could easly backfire and go the other way and he thinks they are having a go at him, it coming from the captain has alot more meaning so we need a captain who is able to do this! and it doesnt matter how long someone has been at the club, if someone is better at dealing with this than King or Keane, then they should be made captain.

You make some good points but I still feel that both King and Keane can do these things. I don't see how Woodgate is a better captain that either of them.
Just to add to that I wouldn't hand the armband to just anyone. Just I feel it is more of a symbol of status at the club. Keane and King have been here years, held in high regard with fans and I would think garner respect from players.

care to give any reasons why? all i can go on is what i have seen on the pitch and woodgate is a leader as are both king and keane, i just think King and Woodgates calmness on the pitch could make them better captains, Keane has the passion, but at times that may not be the best of things when he gets abit too over annimated

I just dont think someone should walk into a team and become a captain. I agree Woodgate would be a good captain though.
My only concern with Keane being captain is him not staying on the pitch for 90 minutes.

Maybe you're right, maybe as a full time captain he wouldn't be as good.

It depends on how you define the captain's role. Ideally, I'd have one like Blanchflower, who would have complete tactical control on the pitch and the authority to override the coach's instructions if he saw fit.

OK, everyone's spotted the rather large flaw in that idea.

Nevertheless, I feel the captain should be much more than a figurehead, an example, and a disher-out of bollockings. He has to have some tactical nous. Seniority should have bugger all to do with it—Bill made Stevie P. captain at 20, which raised a few eyebrows at the time, I recall, but turned out to be an inspired choice. And, for preference, a midfielder.

Yeah, for midfield is the best place for captain, followed by defence. Never a striker or goalkeeper. We however don't really have any midfielders who'd be good, unless the armband would help Jenas achieve the consistency he needs to take him to the next level?

Though I do think Ramos could opt for Zokora
