Guys, I didn't watch the match or listen to any commentary, but was Mason subbed off because he had a bad game or was he just fatigued? I like Poch and want him to succeed but I don't understand how Paulinho is all of a sudden deserving of game time from the bench. Is Stambouli and Dembele both injured?

Anyway how did Paulinho do? I have zero faith in that guy but will be happily proved wrong.

I was at the game, Mason was poor and offered nothing, Paulinho did relatively well when he came on, also Paulinho did a good job when he came on against Everton, hence him getting another chance. I say this as one of his biggest detractors.

MOTD: the art form of banal statements. Hamann' s comment that Spurs fans should be worried and Neville's that our defence was appalling sums that up. We were not a shambles defensively, but made individual errors. These can be easily remedied, but the problem is down to the injuries/absences at right full back. Chelsea are a very efficient team that has been built over a decade with the one of the great managers in history, and a winning mentality.
Bentaleb was our stand out by far, not Kane, but if you're Gary Neville you'll go for Kane.
Finally, Jonathan Pearce is a blatant Gooner.

This. Sure Chelsea are quality, but that doesn't absolve our players of criticism tonight. Lennon should never have allowed that first goal to happen, and Vertonghen was poor for the second and third. Just has to be so much better in terms of resolve, and not allowing these simple mistakes to happen.

And Jesus we need some pace to help push back against these sides.

I thought that was Vlads fault as much as Lennons, he's a defender and just watches one of the world's top players waltz past him in the box.

And then to concede straight after shows we're still weak mentally.

Lamela needs to give a big performance in the league at some time soon. I'm a big fan of his especially when he was in Italy but he needs to start proving himself in the league or he'll continually find himself on the bench. He needs to keep it simple and understand his limitations. He's struggled to take players on as he doesn't seem to have the strength or pace so should just focus on his strength and use his awareness to pads and move to get into attacking positions. I never like the term luxury player bug at the moment he's kind of looking like that without offering too many benefits.

He's in need of serious gym work and make himself look like Jake Gyllenhal.

Really? Maybe I'm biased against him then as I watched him against Partizan and Everton and didn't see him do anything whatsoever.

Speaking/typing as a pretty drunk toss bag on a train full of scum fans, who has been nowhere near anything resembling modern communication technology since 5pm I'm assuming that we got twatted and Jimbo is rattling his "Enic out" tin?

Well with not having watched this match, and only just catching up with this thread, I'm genuinely unsure as to how we played tonight.

Such differing opinions!
Don't worry about opinions. Just look at the result and make your own mind up about how well we played.

Ability wise, Paulinho is 3 times the player that Mason is. He would also command a transfer fee 3 times that of Mason. And wages that probably triple those of Mason. However, only one will probably be at the club in February, and it won't be Paulinho.

The real weak link was Chirches, poor offensively and defensively, roasted by Hazard and Oscar and at fault for both the first two goals, Lamela was a show pony but wasn't THAT bad, offered more than Eriksen who was literally anonymous. Vertonghen was poor, as was Mason. Kane just ran down blind alleys and played with his head down, could have played in Lamela for a tap in early on but instead went alone and squandered the chance. Bentaleb was our best player and Davies did nothing too awful. The rest were basically forgettable...Paulinho offered some urgency when he came on. As a team we started well, but were killed by two quick goals, we needed to take our chances in a game like this, we didn't.

If I could rate this agree 100 times, I would.

I didn't see it, but Mourinho's "the result was unfair on spurs" stuff reminds me of Ferguson with Jol. Managers are only that nice when their team is way better than yours. We know that, at this point in time, but I hate that faux nicey bollocks
