I can't believe what I am reading.

He has been really poor on all three occasions I have seen so far.

Him and Fryers look a million miles away from our starting eleven.
Yeah so poor, hes concede errrr no goals.
And looked rather stylish doing it.
Get a grip

Dawson still has to play over Chiriches for me, until at least after Christmas. Chriches is the Assou-Ekotto of centrebacks at the moment. Nonchalent skill, good going forward, but prone to completely outrageous errors.

I thought our defence against Sheriff was absolutely shocking. The game last night reminded me of the West Ham game and with a little extra composure and quality in front of goal, the score could've been similar. I also think Vertonghen looks shakey at the moment.

The clean sheets are glossing over a defence which lacks concentration and intelligence.

Chiriches looks a long way short of being a decent PL level CB at this stage, but he has some attributes and needs a bit of time to adjust his game and hopefully then he can develop into a decent player for us. Early days yet

What the fuck?

Either people in this thread are:

1. HUGE DAWSON FANS
2. On every drug under the sun

Or

3. As blind as a bat

Because we haven't conceded when Chiriches has played, and he was excellent against Sheriff. Granted he was shaky on his debut, but how on earth can anybody say he has been shit?!

It really hacks me off when people put personal feelings towards players ahead of actual player's abilities.

If people were saying that Dawson is an important player then you'd have a point, but they haven't.

People are saying a 23 year old centre back, who signed just over 2 months ago, doesn't look ready to be a regular player for a team hoping for top 4.

If you want to interpret that as they are Dawson fans then fine, but they are your words, and baseless assumptions, not theirs.

Simple facts to those in highlighted bit
No goals concede
The boy knows how to play football.
Hes an international player.
Hes good enough, so he should play.
And right now verts is left back till rose returns, so hes going to play.
I for one am happy for him.
Well done vlad and welcome to tottenham.

More by luck than judgement though, don't be kidded by a couple of flashes that flatter to deceive and one of which I'd prefer not to see attempted with a man on and no cover. He is far too casual on the ball, plays out too many dangerous passes to exposed players and generally at the moment looks an accident waiting to happen

Quite honestly I'm amazed how you can be serious with the above comments, I see a player who simply looks nowhere near PL level, that's not to say he can't get there but he will need to dispense with a lot of things he might have got away with before and sharpen up his act

Likewise. Im absolutely astonished how you can be serious with those comments. Writing off a young player when he hasnt made a single mistake for us. Unreal

Chiriches reminds me of a younger version of Goran Bunjevcevic, who was signed as the Baltic Franz Beckenbauer but was about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

Why quote my post? Where did I write a single negative point towards him?

I just won't accept that the only reason people want a young defender, new to the country to be integrated slowly is because the are fanboys of Dawson. Especially when no one has written a single thing showing there is truth behind that theory.

Judging by some of the bile written in this and the Lamela thread maybe we shouldnt sign anyone. That means all of these people who are writing off players on a few performances will be happy..............maybe not.

Not writing him off at all simply saying that he doesn't look PL level at this stage, understandably so in many ways and given time and gradual cherry picked games he can develop, but ignoring his failings and pushing him into the team too early isn't going to help his development. If you seriously think he hasn't made a single mistake then you really can't have been looking at the player

I think we have a different definition of the word mistake. IMO if a defender makes a mistake it means he has gifted the other team a chance at goal. He has played 4 games and has kept 4 clean sheets, and as far as i can remember, he hasnt made a mistake which has led to a goal scoring opportunity.

I'd agree with you if he was 18/19, but the fact is he is 23, captain of his national side, and was captain of his previous club and has plenty of champions league experience. I'd be worried if he couldnt play in the PL.

Vertonghen is our best defender and will play as many games as possible, so that has to be taken into account when thinking about our other options at CB. Ideally, Kaboul would return to fitness and form (as he was our best player heading into last season along with Sandro) and be able to consistently be paired with Vertonghen. He is strong and good in the air and doesn't rely on pace and can hold the defense down, giving Vertonghen more freedom. Unfortunately, it seems like we're a ways off of this, if it even happens.

As for Chiriches, he relies on his pure skill far too much to be a good pair with Vertonghen, because his positioning is shit at times. Both are very mobile and love being on the ball and they leave each other exposed far too often. Imagine a back line of Walker, Chiriches, Vertonghen and Rose; there would hardly ever actually be a back line. We saw it in the Sheriff game, where Chiriches would make some great tackles at the last second, but it was only because he is not very good at positioning and has to rely on that. He does some amazing things, but he's fucking scary to watch.

Dawson is usually a more cautious defender in terms of positioning and doesn't get caught out too often. His tackles are anything but cautious though haha. He is still playing very hard and working to hold the armband and his spot, so I expect decent form out of him. Whether or not he's actually better than Chiriches has yet to be seen, but he should have it for now, especially when you look at who is a better partner for Vertonghen.
