Sorry i didnt know wtf is a negative rating but it was really my first reaction as i cant believe liverpool would like to sell anyone to us, especially a player like benteke...
It's not, it's neutral but people still get bent out of shape about it

Would love him at the club if the price was right and his head is in the right place. Would be a great alternative to Kane and would offer us something different if we're chasing a game.

I suspect it's a complete non-starter for various reasons, but I certainly hope we're looking at it if he's being touted around.

I'd be very happy if we go Benteke. Proven PL scorer over several seasons, maybe has a point to prove, several mates at the Lane, can score all types of goals......and maybe most importantly....would keep Harry on his toes to deliver every week.

Im not. I just dont understand why people would do it ON the thread. Im just the messenger - and it's not very nice to The Goat either. They can reply to the thread stating their opinion.

Not what we need as good as he is. We need a Vardy type player to play off Kane.

Agree, we need a bit of pace down the middle, someone who could supplement Kane: Vardy and Berahino offer that - but not Benteke.

Having said that, I'm sure we wouldn't turn down a loan to the end of the season - but the chances of Liverpool agreeing to that are probably nil.

Wouldn't mind him, but not for what they paid for him.

Just not sure he would really work with Kane.

We need to get out of the mentality of thinking we can only sign kids or lesser players as all we need is a back up. It's a small club mentality. Good players believe they can dislodge other good players from the team and the competition only strives to bring the best out of the players and in turn is better for the team.

An injury/suspension/loss of form and all of a sudden that "back up" is the main man. Not only that but top players on the bench able to come on and win games is crucial to being successful side.

Having said that, I cannot see us signing Benteke as the likes of Utd and Chelsea will be looking for a forward and can offer more money to Liverpool and the player.

Not a player I'd want here, worries me that they're getting rid of him. If they manage to recoup most of their fee, they may put in a large bid for someone like Aubameyang.

Why do people dislike+WTF me for making this thread? Is it against the rules making a thread based on ITK transfers? If so - then im sorry. Im just passing on information.

Surely must be more reliable than some article from the Metro/Mirror etc.

Posting a transfer rumour in "Transfer Rumours" is pretty outrageous though ;)

I think if he did come Pochettino would enjoy playing Kane behind Benteke as a 10 or even up front in a two as well as a rotation option so I don't think he'd need to worry about being back up to Kane.

Last season if people remember Pochettino did experiment a number of times playing Kane behind Adebayor and Soldado but they were so woeful he gave up.

I'm so keen on this I really think it would add to our options so much. At the moment all teams we come up against know we'll play Kane up top with three in behind. Benteke comes in and all bets are off.

I just can't see it happening.

Pool would want every penny of the £32.5m that they paid for him and i can't see us putting up that cash for anyone in January.

Don't know that he would want to come to be second fiddle to Kane especially since Benteke will be looking for as much time as possible leading up to the Euros and will really want to prove he should be first choice over a on form Lukaku.

That said, think he would be a great signing if we could somehow pull it off. PL proven and a constant threat and near unplayable when he is on form. If we would spend the money and he were content to play in our system think he could be a difference maker down the stretch.

Can't see any way we'd get him tbh but would be a terrific signing if we could get it done.

Not what we need as good as he is. We need a Vardy type player to play off Kane.

That's all very well, but we can't keep running Kane into the ground, who's a Vardy type player supposed to play off when Kane is injured? And he will get injured sooner or later!!!

Considering the difference in what it would cost and wages I think I'd rather take Danny Ings.

They've sold cheap before. And we've bought dear before. Let's hope it plays out the same way as it did before.

2008 - 2015

Liverpool buy Keane from Spurs.
Spurs go bottom.
Spurs sack their manager and bring in Harry, one of the old guard.
Spurs get better.
Keane fails at Liverpool.
Spurs buy him at a massive discount.
Spurs continue to get better.
Liverpool continue to get worse.
Spurs finish above Liverpool five times out of the next six seasons.

2015 - 2022

Liverpool buy Benteke from Villa.
Villa go bottom.
Villa sack their manager and bring in Remi, the new Garde.
Villa get better (relatively)
Benteke fails at Liverpool.
Spurs buy him at a massive discount.
Spurs continue to get better.
Liverpool continue to get worse.
Spurs finish above Liverpool six times out of the next six seasons.

I know it's unlikely but, if we apply the Keane percentage discount to Benteke, we should get him for £20.5m. I'd be fairly happy with that.

It would also mean that Tim Sherwood's next job is as interim manager at Real Madrid. I'd be fairly happy with that too...
