Liverpool's decision to sell could have to do with staged-payments or add-ons not coming into play. In that scenario a deal could be done, it'd have Levy written all over it

I dont really know what to make of this

At a cut price it would seem on the surface an excellent deal and I'm sure we could fit him in to the team as competition/back up/partner for Kane

We however do need a certain level of effort from all players for our system to work and we need a certain type of character to maintain out team spirit etc

I have question marks over benteke in these areas - was largely inconsistent at villa and has failed to settle at Liverpool

His work rate doesn't seem the best and he seems to have patches of form where he is inconspicuous blended with spells of being unplayable (not unlike Ade)

Maybe the Belgian contingent would help him settle in and buy into our philosophy

It's a risk - but if we could get him for less than 20m it would probably be one worth taking

Genuinely surprised at this. Would happily take him but why would Liverpool sell him to us?

Would love him at the club if the price was right and his head is in the right place. Would be a great alternative to Kane and would offer us something different if we're chasing a game.

I suspect it's a complete non-starter for various reasons, but I certainly hope we're looking at it if he's being touted around.

Especially with Kane's ability to drop deep and collect the ball it's not inconceivable that they could work as a two if that was what a certain game required. Would also allow us to go long when chasing a game. Everyone has a price that makes sense and if he's cheap (very unlikely) I'm not against it.

Surely this is agent-peddled, right? Surely Liverpool are not already offering him away, are they? Has Klopp identified a replacement this soon, and is this aggressive to buy him at this point? I just think it so unlikely, regardless of their desperate position.

Benteke only feeds off crosses. We'd need to sell Son, Lamela and co and buy some proper wingers to accommodate him.

We don't cross the ball, fullbacks don't, we don't play with wingers. So I don't see any point in this. Kane is great in the air, and we hardly utilise it, what would be the point of Benteke?

I'm a little confused as to why Liverpool, a team who would consider us direct rivals, would offer us a solution to the most glaring issue with our squad, which is a lack of depth up front. Benteke would only make us stronger squad wise, so it's a little odd Liverpool would come to us asking about a deal. Unless there's something up with him fitness or attitude wise.

Because he's a busted flush whose value is only going to fall from here.

See Kenwyne Jones or Andy Carroll
I think there is more to him than just a big lump that you hoof the ball at. With Lamela, Eriksen and Son buzzing around him I think he could be a good fit for us.

I do not, however think that Liverpool will sell to us at a price that we feel is reasonable. I also suspect he is on massive wages which again won't fly here. Man U on the other hand may well be all over this.

Been a Benteke fan for a long time, but right now he's the wrong Belgian LFC attacker to be interested in.

Origi's the much better fit for Spurs. Time for a cheeky bid?

Love him at the Lane

Give us something of a Plan B . I am all for the current style of play but it would be good to get a big strong CF up front when Plan A doesnt work and we can get our overlapping FB to just cross

Dont see why we would keep buying players that play exact same way our existing players play. That limits the team in terms of tactics. Always good to have options and variety

Benteke isn't just about getting on the end of crosses...did people not see him link up with Weimann aplenty...the combination play at Anfield a few seasons ago, ironically, between the two of them was incredible - , one of the best attacking displays I've seen between two forwards - it had everything. No wonder Rodgers was attracted after witnessing that:

Benteks is not just a lump you boot the ball up to. If people think that they havn't watched enough of him.

He's had a poor start with Liverpool and his injury situation hasn't helped either but make no mistake he has shown a lot more than just scoring the odd header from a cross, a hell of a lot more.

Big fan of Benteke, if he can pass a medical. He's had a number of injuries.

As many others have said, he would be a good alternative (as well as back-up) for Kane. IMO, he would be willing to come to compete with Kane - loads of national teammates, will get plenty of game time.

Not what we need as good as he is. We need a Vardy type player to play off Kane.

disagree. We are not going to play 2 forwards. Not now, and probably not in foreseeable future. So we don't need one to play off Kane, but one to challenge Kane, that besides getting tired, needs someone similar to challenge him so he can compete and raise his game.

I'm not implying Benteke is the one we need, but we need a #9

That performance you talk about was a classic counter-attacking one though. Villa sat very deep under Lambert and he, Weimann and Gabby always had loads of space. We don't really play like that the majority of the time, so I don't see it being that relevant. He's not the right player for us.

It is relevant in that he can link up and combine well - that wasn't just about exploiting space, some of it was indeed quite intricate actually.

A powerful CF who can hold the ball up and link well with others in an intelligent sort of way is right for us. Sorry don't agree with you at all.

Benteke is not as skilful as Kane, but would be a good alternative for the end of games when you want a beast in the box. Would be good to be able to use defence as a form of attack, and have our wide players and attacking mids pop balls into the box for Benteke.

Picture the scene, you're 1-0 up at home against Stoke in the 60th minute and you have made no subs. We're coming under some pressure and it's tiring the team. You change Walker for Tripper (most crosses in the league 2014-15), Kane for Benteke, and bring on a sparky youngster. Puts a new surge of energetic play going forward, gives the defence a breather and maybe, just maybe, we nick a couple of goals and knock the fight out of the opposition.

I'm all for Benteke, especially at the hopefully bargain price he might be going for. Klopp wants his own players, now is a good time to buy!
