As I recall it was touch and go whether Gazza would ever make it as a top player, he was on the verge of not being offered a professional contract by Newcastle but Jack Charlton relented and gave him a a chance.
No doubt if he'd been around now Dan would have a better option.

Not that I think Wickham is the next Gazza but I have total confidence that in five years time there will be people on here saying we should buy him, or should have.

Obviously you are not a good judge because someone you thought had no talent has just been bought for £8 million plus add ons that could take the deal to almost £12 million.

It's actually a pretty smart move by the lad because if he had gone to Spurs he wouldn't have seen much action, if any, in the Premier league.

Tbh there's been so much hype around CW and little evidence to really back up the claims. He did not really cement a starting role at Ipswich (Bale and Walcott were main stays by he's age) and was played on the wing mainly. He did not play a game in Denmark (England U21) surprisingly but could be down to Stuart Pearce.

It all just rings like the typical press love child secret...CW stock went up and up the less we saw of him.

Hope he prove me wrong.
