Spurs Launch ₤15m Bentley Bid - Report

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos is reportedly set to launch a ₤15 million bid for Blackburn Rovers winger David Bentley…

Bentley has long been targeted by Liverpool to fill the right-forward slot in their 4-2-3-1 system, but Blackburn boss Mark Hughes is determined to hold onto one of his star attractions and has rebuffed all offers thus far.

The former Arsenal wide-man has three years remaining on his contract at Ewood Park, but Rovers’ failure to qualify for Europe may tempt the 23-year-old into a summer move.

Spurs
can offer UEFA Cup football due to their Carling Cup triumph, and according to The Sun, they are prepared to pay

The Lilywhites have already wrapped up the ₤16.5 million signing of Croatian playmaker Luka Modric, and ₤15 million for Bentley’s services.
if the Bentley deal should eventuate it could spell the end of Aaron Lennon’s career at White Hart Lane.

But Spurs striker Robbie Keane is excited about the future, insisting Ramos will have transformed the team by the time August comes around.

“Expectation will be higher because the manager has had more time to bed in,” said Keane. “There will be new players and we’ve already signed one in Luka Modric.

“I’m sure there will be a few more to follow and that can only help the squad. It’s always nice to see new players because it gives everyone a lift.

“Next year we’ll see a different Tottenham. The manager will have had the players from the very start — I’m sure he’ll bring his own players in and it will be his sort of team.”

There seems very little substance to this. No quotes, no evidence. I'm not saying it would be a bad thing, just seems a very speculative story. Typical Sun reporting to be honest.

If we sign Bentley for 15 million, will there be the same widespread dissatisfaction as there was for Bent about buying a player for a position that we already have at a hugely inflated fee?

I have just recieved a text from my old man who organises the catering at derby county and he reckons huddlestone is definatly on the move. Derby will get a slice of the fee. He reckons he has heard he is off to blackburn.

I wonder if this could be part exchange for bentley.

Bentley's a good player, but i'm still crossing fingers that Lennon will recapture his form of a couple of years ago.. In my eyes, Lennon (on form) is a much more exciting player to watch.. Although, maybe Bentley wouldn't be a direct relacement for Lennon.. If i remember rightly, when at The Arse, he was considered to be a Bergkamp in the making, ie, more centrally on the pitch, off the striker.. I wonder whether Ramos is going to change from his 4-4-2 to a 4-2-3-1 formation? As Modric and Bentley aren't out and out wingers, and we're deffo after another DM, maybe to play alongside Zokora as one of the two?

Bentley looked the real deal against us up at ewood park, he turned chimbonda inside out for there goal. Although admittedly chimnbo was out of position at left back. Despite his tainted past id love to see this fella in a spurs shirt, he seemks to have it all.

its out of us liverpool and chelsea as to who gets him.

id have him over lennon any day of the week due to bentley actually being able to cross a ball.
15 is a lot but he is a class player, and will only get better.

I'll be more than happy to be proved wrong or admit I'm wrong, but in my opinion I think Bentley is over-rated.

I'm not saying Lennon is the be all and end all either, but I do fondly remember the Lennon of two seasons ago and he deservedly went to the World Cup, as he was on form and exciting to watch.

For £15m I think there are better players out there.

People bitch and complain about paying £15 million for Bentley but most would be happy to pay that for Veloso who is completely un-proven in the premiership.

The guy is a great footballer, certainly the best English player we could hope to attract right now. I also think if we are going to play Modric in a sort of free role from the left then Bentley would provide great balance as he is able to move in from the touchline and still be effective. And if Berbatov leaves then we are actually going to need to create chances for Bent, which Bentley will do several times a game.

The difference is everyone is saying Lennon is exciting to watch, but there is no end product, and as a winger he should be able to cross the ball, and he cant. I think that for next year it's all about the team winning, not putting loyaltys above winning, and hoping that players will come right.

Bent for 15.5 million, Bentley for 15 million, and somewhere down the road, we'll get Benting for 16 million and Bented for 17 million.

why would signing bentley equal lennon being sold?

does it just not mean we would have more competition for places!

Bendtner?? 15 million seems like a bit much but I did like when he scored for us so maybe we should keep the trend going.

I think he is a good player, but £15M is too much for Bentley in my opinion. I hope our priorities lie elsewhere.
