Is it true that when we bought david bentley from blackburn arsenal had a 50% clause that whatever blackburn recieved they got half. Is that why he cost so much. If true arsenal would of got 8.5 mill of the 17 mill. Disgusting. I was sent a link from a gooner.

You're a bit late.

I don't think it was quite 50%, but yeah, they got a nice chunk of the £15m..

Yeah, I think Greenie's near the money. If you'll excuse both the pun and the over-familiarity, Mr Valley. I assume you're a mister. And not a miss. Or a Sir, Lord, Commander, Brigadier, Lieutenant, Captain, Major or other army rank.

Anyway, whatever your designation, I think you're correct. That essentially paid Andrei Arshavin's wages last year. :|

It's perfectly normal procedure when the buying club can't really meet the seller's valuation but they both expect the player's value to rise substantially. I'd imagine we built a sell-on into the Chris Gunter deal to Forest as we'd paid about £500k more than we sold him for.

In the case of Bentley I think we all said we were paying a bit over the odds at the time but that also, he was genuinely loooking like the new David Beckham.

So forgetting hindsight and knowing only what you knew at the end of his fabulous season at Blackburn, should we have not signed him on the basis that woolwich would benefit by a few million ?

That wasn't why he was that price, he was the price paid and we paid it to Blackburn case closed and we were then out of the loop. What Blackburn did with that money was entirely up to them and as it happens they gave some to arsenal but it wasn't our money it was theirs.

What a waste of money.

People on here were writing articles saying we need to get rid of Lennon and bring Bentley in, someone who can finally cross and provide ammunition for the forward line.

Bar the odd brilliant goal, I was always under the opinion that he flattered to decieve.

I changed my mind a little after the Roma pre-season game last season. Then he turned out to be rubbish. Complete waste of money.

Couldn't we have kidnapped him, taekn him to a plastic surgeon and given him a false ID. Not really care if it cost more than the actual transfer fee, just so long as the Scummers hadn't benefitted.

Anyway, Lennon is out yeet a few games and he may yet come good:pray:

25% sell-on clause of the fee, minus the fee Blackburn had paid for him - about 3m.

these things are always a percentage of the profit. Not of the fee. The way the deal was structured, we didn't pay the full £15m or £17m up front, a lot of it was contingent on appearances and goals etc. So it's unlikely that Arsenal made that much out of the deal (yet).

Really got big hopes for Bentley,he showed at Blackburn what a talented player he is, when he is high on confidence he can cause all sorts of problems for defences, left foot, right foot, crossing and shooting is high quality really hope we keep him,he has a chance at a run in the team now Lennon is out in his correct position of RM as opposed to last year when he was played LM and CAM by Ramos and he was playing in a side that was losing game after game!

Bentley is a good player, re-look at this thread this time next season I guarentee you if Lennon is out for long enough Bentley will shine and it's great having both options because one gives you quality service when playing well and the other is pure pace and direct dangerous running, two very different but equally effective style of wingers.

don't give up on him,he's a very talented player.
