Defensive midfielder

I think we should bring in a new defensive midfielder. I`t looks like we`re playing a lot of 442, 451 and 4231 this season and we only have Huddlestone, Palacios and new boy Sandro to play the defensive role. Modric, Jenas and O`Hara can fill in but I would love to have Lassana Diara or Michael Carrick back playing for Harry. Diara is available from Madrid as they`re going to sign Khedira, and Carrick could be bought from United if we need him. I know a lot of you will slaughter this thread, but I would love to see your opinions on the subject. We need a big squad for next season.

I don't see why Hudd, Palacios and Sandro isn't enough really. We have squad limits to abide by this season too.

Carrick has looked very poor for United this season, Hudd's come on leaps and bounds this season, and it'll be interesting to see how he develops next season, I think him, Palacios and Sandro is enough for now.

I don't really understand this thread, we have Palacios, Huddlestone and Sandro.

I really think three is enough...

Plus if we played 4-2-3-1 (not 4-5-1 urgh) then it may be this this.

Gomes

Corkula Dawson King Bale

-- Huddlestone--Modric-- (Sandro? Palacios?)

Lennon--J.Cole?---A very forward attackin left winger

--------Payluchenko------ (or most probably a new centre forward)

If we stick in the main to 4-4-2 we definitely don't need anymore defensive midfielders, if we go 4-2-3-1 we need to concentrate on ensuring we have a good attacking left-sided midfielder, a centre forward able to play the lone role and someone who can play the continental no.10 role.

We have Livermore we could call on if needed as well. Think thats enough, and as others have said, we have more that can cover if needed.

I see what you're saying with this thread but like most, I think we're OK with what we've got.
If we are going to venture from 442 to a 451 variation, I think centrally we need a ball winner (Wilson, Sandro) and a ball player (Hudd, Modders etc).
Granted, Sandro seems to have jumped from a "won't see much of him this season" to a near first team choice over recent weeks (I think IOMLS' vids are to blame for this ) so we may be putting too much onto a young foreign lad.
If Sandro is taken out of the picture, do we have enough cover for Wilson? I'm not sure that we actually do. Kaboul maybe?

I think that 'Arry's trying to build versatility and flexibility into the squad and I do think that we'll have a couple of surprises during this window.

We managed decently without Wilson last season.

And Jenas and O'Hara, if we keep them, are good cover.

Modric, Huddlestone, Palacios, Sandro, Jenas, O'Hara, Livermore, Bostock, Parrett. At the moment there's 9 players for 2 positions.
Then there's also the versatility of Corluka and Kaboul to cover it.

We don't need Carrick anymore. I wouldn't say no to Cambiasso if Rafa is intent on getting Mascherano and doesn't want him though!

To be honest, Palacios doesn't always play as a defensive midfielder. He roams forward quite a lot.

I think we should be more strict with him, just make him sit in front of the back 4 and not advance much. I swear he played a slightly more defensive role for Honduras in the world cup.

He's not a holding midfielder that is for sure, he is a presser and destroyer.
