How much cash i Manure holding? 38 mil £ for Berbs is more money than I ever could expect us getting for him. If we were to sell him, it has to be next summer. Ludacris to sell Mitko just before the window closes....

I found this on Bloomberg. It lists the source as the Sofia News Agency which has taken the info from some Bulgarian site but how accurate the translation is or whether this is in anyway reliable God only knows. And of course this is his agent supposedly talking whom I'm sure is salivating at the chance of another big pay day for himself if Berbs was to move so I'd take it all with a large pinch of salt, but it sounds like the comments others are referring to in this thread so I thought I'd put it up here for others to see what they make of it. More agent mischief making if you ask me. Anyway here it is;

English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur has received a transfer bid for its Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United and will decide whether to accept it over the next days, the player's agent Emil Dantchev said on Friday.

Dantchev and Berbatov met with the Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy on Thursday, amid heightening speculating in English press that the Manchester club stepped up its interest for the Bulgarian striker.

Manchester United is in the middle of a striker crisis, with several key players out with injuries, and manager Alex Ferguson has identified the Bulgarian as his main target before the end of the international transfer window, which closes next week.

"Tottenham's board confirmed that Manchester United made an enquiry as to Berbatov's availability," Dantchev told Bulgarian sports website Gong.bg.

"We told them our position, they told us theirs. In the end, we agreed that the board would decide within the next few days and let us know."

"It's obviously a very appealing possibility, but Dimitar has a contract with Tottenham and he needs Spurs' approval to negotiate.

"I cannot comment the stuff in the English papers. The truth of it is that there is an inquiry, but everything else is speculation.

"It's clear though that Tottenham really want to keep Berbatov."

The Bulgarian became an instant fan favourite and ended the season as the club's top scorer with 23 goals in all competitions, including 12 in the league. Rumours of Manchester United's interest refused to go away in the summer, but with Tottenham unwilling to let their striker go, it would take a bid in excess of GBP 20 M to prize him away from White Hart Lane. Just noticed this actually - gong was the expression used in the middle ages for sh*te, which just so happens to be the name of the Bulgarian sports website originating the above article. Make of that what you will:wink:

I told Dimitar that I love him and he told me that he loves me as well," Jol said.

"He thanked me for bringing him over here and I said I would rather die than sell him. I also told one manager that [inquired about him] that I would rather die than sell Dimitar Berbatov.

"Berba knows that because I said the same to him. So for me there's no issue.

Staying put

"Berbatov will stay at this club and he will play for us.

"The disappointing thing is that somebody maybe told one of the papers that I wanted to sell Dimitar."

Hopefully he'll sign a new deal then so we don't have another Defoe situation

Why can't the tabloids leave us the fuck alone? I kid you not all this Spurs hating by the press seriously gets me pissed sometimes.

Just to point out also that he didn't say a "new" offer.

Why are the press on our backs all the time? We all knew there was an offer at the start of the summer, yet they get it out again now.

Same thing happened last season just before the chelsea match, Lennon was on his way to Chelski.

I wouldnt read to much into this, probably just some old bollocks leaked to try and unsettle Berbs before Sundays game..

Glad i'm not alone in the notion, of what appears to be a concerted effort (particularly since our recent re-surgence) from large parts of the press/media to continually
destabilise us:bang::bang::bang:

Thats a little bit worrying TBH, if we have no intentioms of selling him, why take a few days to decide?:-|

I see your point, but that's just agent talk.

There's absolutely no way the board could possibly consider accepting an offer for Berbatov just days after making a ham-fisted attempt to oust our manager in the name of showing ambition.

We should sell Berbatov for the right financial package, something in the region of 35m upwards.

Berbatov is definitely looking for the move, his agent hasn't stopped touting him since the press noticed his talents in a Spurs shirt.

Ferguson made another interesting comment when asked about Gabby Henizer, referring to certain players have agents dictating and organizing everything to do with there client..(sorting out holidays etc)
