Paying money to watch England play a friendly on a computer monitor is certifiably insane.

Odeon cinemas, including "The Odeon" (Leicester Square) will show it supposedly, so could go to the cinema to watch the football

I remember way back in 1980 the 5th round of the League Cup away fixture
against West Ham was shown at the flicks...

We trailed down to the Odeon in Holloway Road to listen to Ken Wolstenholme commentating the match which we lost 1-0

Surely some publican will hook his pc up to his telly box and put it on.

That's what I'm hoping for anyway. England games should always be available down the pub.

I did watch a World Cup game in 2006 in a German cinema and you were allowed to bring drink in. That was fun.

I think after the game this will serve to be a fail worthy of failblog.org.

I can't quite fathom who would want to watch a meaningless England game on a rubbish internet stream, crouched uncomfortably around a computer screen and paying £5 for the privledge.

This must have cost the company a fortune. Maybe they bought it before we had qualified but still its a stupid move on a lot of counts.

They must believe they will make more from internet payments around the world than they would from the BBC/ITV's bids though.

and I reckon they could be right.

I forgot to mention, the news was interviewing some guy in charge of supporters groups. He said that people who are inclined to watch football on the internet are smart enough to find illegal streams on there.

Even more fail for the company involved

 exactly as I said earlier...I don't pay for Sky, as I can watch all football for free online. Why I (or any sane person) would pay £4.99 for a meaningless friendly is beyond me.

I think you misjudge the world public to be fair.

What would you have expected Kentaro to do? sell the rights to the BBC and ITV for a derisory offer?

I think worldwide they can easily expect a few tens of thousands paying that sum, if not more.

I think you misunderstand my post. I'm not knocking them for trying...I just think anyone who does is mental.

I'd be surprised if the number was that high Kendall, but I guess for them wanting to do this, they are going to make a profit doing so.

The sheer fact that they cannot stream the game in anywhere near the quality that it would be shown on the TV should stop this from being allowed to happen.

I really think this football TV rights thing is getting out of hand and the only loser seems to be the fans. For a while now I have refused to pay £20 for Sky Sports just so that I can watch 2 Spurs games a month. I think that the cost of satelite TV is extortionate and the government should really do something about it. Not that thats particularly related :shifty:

Kentako (or whatever) have openly admitted that they are allowing a maximum of 1 million subscribers. So basically, it's a minimum of 5 million income from this... Is it worth it?

I agree with that and when the PL had to sell the second rights package (am I right in thinking that was down to some monopoly issue with Sky owning all the rights for games?) the fans suffered again because they now had to subscribe to another channel to get all the games.

England matches should be free to air period!

I'll watch Germany vs Russia instead.

Similar thing is happening in the US. Since the game is in Honduras they get to sell the rights and it will be close-circuit PPV in select bars only. Unlike the England game, this isn't a meaningless qualifier. FIFA really needs to change the way tv rights are given away.

I'm sure i'll find a feed for it without paying £5. Its a meaningless game anyway, and if worst comes to worst i'll just wait until the highlights are on.

According to the Sun there are no highlights being shown either.
