Not seen the game, someone give me a summary of it ta (y)

Liverpool lost 6-1 which is really funny. Really really funny.

They have redefined 'Spursy'.

We came 5th.

We played really well in the first half, defended decently in the second.

Sums up the day.

Plus, Liverpool losing 6 1 to Stoke is really funny, if it hadnt been mentioned.

Considering how average the squad is and how crap we've played for a lot of the season, finishing 5th and above Liverpool (and Southampton) represents a very good season. Not to mention a cup final and more youth in the side. Very pleased.

Now we need to invest wisely.

Doh! (Didn't want to neg rep. :)

The bad thing about that is that it will convince them to fork up the money to keep Sterling.

Don't think it is quite so clear-cut.
If the quality of their squad was better then yeah, keeping a quality player would make a big difference. But their squad still isn't that great. Obviously him staying will make them a better team - but by how much.

More importantly, increasing their wage bill is just exactly the opposite of what they need to be doing. They are in this mess because they tried to spend and pay wages to challenge United when their stadium and infrastructure just couldn't support it. For a long time, now, they have needed to do exactly what we did: reign in spending, reign in the wage bill, upgrade infrastructure, revamp the youth set-up. They started to do that - and then the minute Suarez wanted to leave the payed him a ridiculous Citeh/Chelsea level wage, still didn't win anything and he went the next summer anyway. It set a bad precedent. So to do the same again with Sterling would just be more of the same.

The question is, would Sterling staying in a squad that is not top four level (and they are the fifth best financed club in the league) actually make them a top four team? And would that be enough to yet again pay wages they really can't afford when the thing they should be doing is reducing their wage bill (and, of course, once you pay one player that amount the rest of the team expect a higher bracket of pay, too)?

We could've conceded to Everton in the last minute and still finished 5th, such was the hammering Liverpool received.

Congrats, Brendan. You knobhead.

Fifth.
Cup final.
Kane, Bentalab, Mason.
The CPO finally being sorted

Not a bad season, all told. Not the best, but I was expecting a lot worse.

Crap season according to a lot yet we're still only 6 points off 4th and 5th on points from Lpool and Saints who've had a good season imo. COYS and get the transfers right.

"Top 6 and a good cup run"

That's what I said at the start and I'm pretty happy tbh.
Good young nucleus to build on, few solid signings and we should see some progress. I don't particularly think United were good this year and had they got Europa I doubt they'd have finished where they are now, so maybe that was the difference. But we're in Europe now so lets go for it!
