Wenger has won the transfer window.

Sells Gervinho to Rome, paves way for Bale replacement Erik Lamela to Spurs. With replacement confirmed, Spurs feel less pressure to hang onto Bale and as a result Back down from their €120m valuation. Silly Spurs however forgetting all about that paedophile waiting in his child catcher's wagon, agree to sell Bale with more than 24 hours of the transfer window left. Wenger capitalises and pounces on the now mature (compared to when Wenger first scouted him at Bremen) Özil's availability, thus securing a world class talent while ensuring the loss of an even better world class talent from his rivals.

For the record this post is a bit in jest, I think Lamela will turn out better than Bale and would have been delighted if the transfer window shut a few minutes after Bale's departure. But Wenger has (if he actually this this through haha) sort of out smarted us at the present time since he has landed an already proven world class talent which helped in ensuring the exit of ours.

Bale admits stress of Real move

Gareth Bale has revealed the stress of his move from Tottenham to Real Madrid took its toll on him especially as the saga dragged on.

Real Madrid made no secret of their desire to sign the Welshman during the transfer window but they were forced to wait until the eve of the deadline before finally getting their hands on their target.

As Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy played hard ball with his Spanish counterparts, Bale failed to report for training amid reports that he was ‘furious and frustrated’ with the London club’s handling of the transfer.

Fortunately, the £85million move went through on Sunday evening with Bale unveiled at the Bernabeu on Monday afternoon before returning to Wales to join up with the national side.

Speaking to BT Sport’s Jake Humphrey, Bale has revealed the protracted transfer saga took its toll on him.

“It was a long time. It was very stressful to say the least,” Bale told BT Sport.

“I knew their interest from the start and I was always confident the move would go through but obviously the chairman, Daniel Levy, had to do his business and do Tottenham well so I kind of understood that. But at the same time, thinking of myself, It was a hard time, it was stressful and I just had to be patient and try to focus.

“I believed they [Real Madrid] would get the deal through, and finally they did and it was great to be unveiled.”

Bale began his career with the Southampton academy before moving to Tottenham in 2007, but his life-long dream was to play for Real Madrid and he finds it hard to believe he is finally at the Bernabeu.

“When I was younger I had some close friends who always loved European football and Real Madrid at that time were the dominant force,” he went on.

“I remember family holidays when we used to go to Spain and we’d bring back replica shirts of Real Madrid and pretend to be the players when we played in the park.

“I’ve followed them ever since and the football they played, the team they had, was amazing and it’s just great to be there.”

He may be the most expensive player in football, but there was a time he feared he would have to give up the sport as he struggled with back injuries.

“I had a lot of growing problems in my back, which made my hamstrings tighter, which meant I couldn’t run as quick,” he explained.

“It affected the way I played and it was quite frustrating at the time. I was trying to do things I knew I could do before but I was restricted. I think they believed it [Bale’s talent] was still there and it was just a phase I needed to come through.

“There was a lot of debate [about Bale’s future at Southampton] but everyone at Southampton, especially Rod Ruddock, the guy who actually spotted me when I was nine, believed that I would make it and we got through that phase. I showed what I was capable of and that was the end of that.

“At that time I don’t think anyone expected anything to happen in the future as big as it did but it was thanks to all of them for the faith they showed in me.

“ I think those little strokes of luck, and the bounce of the ball, you need sometimes to get where you are and luckily that went in my favour.

“I always believed in my ability but in any sport you need that little bit of luck. A scout might be there a day you’re playing in a certain game, which obviously happened for me.

“I think there is an element of luck but I think a lot of it is down to your hard work and dedication and how much effort you put in on game days.

“That’s been there since I started and that’s still there now.”

I am posting this across all Bale threads. I am tired of reading the saccharine comments by sycophants. You don't thank the guy that just mugged you.

Bale is a piece of shit. Anyone who has understood the subtext of the statement from the club and the statements made by AVB could not think otherwise. He teed up the deal with Madrid in May, guaranteed himself a source of income if the deal didn't happen (20 million Euros from Madrid, this would have handsomely covered any fines imposed by the club and paid for a years supply of pink clothes and shitty hats) and got his move by more or less threatening to miss the whole season.

This forced us to sell him or lose any value as he ran down his contract. His behaviour was disgustingly unprofessional and disrespectful. He does not deserve our approbation or undying love and gratitude, he deserves our derision. If and when he next plays at the Lane he needs to be reminded of his perfidy. Scum bag.

That seems like a hell of a lot of opinion and conjecture. Madrid paying him 20 million euros if he sat out a full year? Yeah right.

Oh and there was no reason to post this three times...

That sounds like major tapping up, surely if the £20 mill payment was agreed this would prove the tapping up? The club would be all over it and could threaten to report RM/agent to UEFA?

Afraid to say, with hindsight, it looks like all 3 parties RM/Bale/THFC wanted this deal to happen.....

I also believe AVB was probably complicit in the sale. You rarely win anything with one world class player, you can win a lot more with a more balanced and better team.

Not sure I'll ever see a better player in a spurs shirt. Hope I'm wrong. Sad thing is I'm actually looking forward to watching Madrid this season with Bale and Modric, small club syndrome at it's finest!!!!

Same here. Ronaldo, Benzema, Bale, Isco, Modric in tandem is insane.

Unlike most on here I got over the fact Bale was leaving a few weeks ago so I wish nothing but best for the boy now.

Everyone taps players up tbh.

As for the £20million, the deal made was similar to the neymar deal with barca in that insured that Bale wouldnt leave us to go to another club and guaranteed loyalty but I havent read anything about him not playing for a year

I really don't think he would. Why flirt with the CL, when you can go to a team that will 100% be in the competition every year and potentially win it.

No, I think he would've gone regardless.

Inclined to agree.

Can't help but watch his goals for us... it's like reminiscing about an ex

Boo fucking hoo

Stress is not knowing if you are going to be in a job this time next week, stress is having serious illness or a family member having serious illness, stress is parents of soldiers out in Afghanistan not knowing if their son will return alive

Stress is NOT pocketing a 6 figure sum every week for kicking a ball

Pathetic ****

I'm surprised about the bitterness to be honest. He worked his socks off for Spurs and we were playing our best football in 20 odd years. We got a world record fee which hopefully some goes towards our new stadium. Bale always said he wanted to play abroad, even before he joined Spurs. He never claimed to be a Spurs fan but always put in a shift for us. We've managed to buy 5-6 players on his fee alone. Hopefully we can go onto be a better team without him, we relied on him way too much last season
