Add another 2 to that and thats now 12 in 14 games as a striker I believe, playing up front with Joe Cole today

Also I don't get why Yan Dhanda didnt get selected for England U17's

He's an u18, 98 born

The world cup was a 98 born competition, he was in the team with Edwards at the start of the season in 2014. Its one of the reasons why Edwards hasn't been wide right a lot for england iirc

Yes but the World Cup was an extension of last season Euros. So last years Euro u17s were 98 borns. This new season they are u18s but because they qualified for the u17 World Cup they took that squad with them. For the rest of the season they will play u18s matches

Regardless I made the point as I assumed you didn't think he was Edwards age group from the reasoning above. I don't disagree with you as I like Dhanda and he and Edwards seemed to link up well at u16s but I think he may have been injured at the start of the year and I had read he hadn't been playing that well for the u18s. Quite a few better players that could have gone like Gribbin, feels like it was a missed opportunity.

I did find it strange he has played in the U21's for Liverpool but hasn't featured in the CL youth cup

Reece Oxford has been promoted to U19 whilst he pulled out of the U17 world cup squad

Meanwhile Harrison hasn't been included in the U19 squad

Also Solanke has been promoted to the U21's

Goalkeepers: Jordan Pickford (Preston North End, loan from Sunderland), Christian Walton (Brighton), Joe Wildsmith (Sheffield Wednesday)

Defenders: Tyias Browning (Everton), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Brendan Galloway (Everton), Dominic Iorfa (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Jack Stephens (Middlesbrough, loan from Southampton), Matt Targett (Southampton)

Midfielders: Lewis Baker (Vitesse Arnhem, loan from Chelsea), Nathaniel Chalobah (SSC Napoli, loan from Chelsea), Jake Forster-Caskey (Brighton), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)

Forwards: Chuba Akpom (Hull City, loan from Arsenal), Jordon Ibe (Liverpool), Solly March (Brighton), Nathan Redmond (Norwich City), Dominic Solanke (Vitesse Arnhem, loan from Chelsea), Duncan Watmore (Sunderland), Cauley Woodrow (Fulham)

This is insane only Ward-Prowse and Baker have been playing regular football this season from the midfield positions whilst only Targett(who hasn't played in over a month), Galloway and Iorfa have had a run of games arguably Browning as well

This is the weakest age group/poorest selections in a while tbh, you make excuses about stones, dier and Alli being promoted but that has always happened and if anything the players in the 97 group are starting to get more game time than these lot with the likes of Cook, Niles, Reed, Crowley and etc.

Then we are left weak in the U19's and the next u20 world cup in two years though there is enough quality in the U19 fringe and U18's for the world cup but when you compare it to 2 years ago our U20 world cup squad(who weren't deemed good enough for the U21's championship) featured:
Stones
Dier
Barkley
Ward-Prowse
Pritchard

At the moment the younger version guys would be a big bonus imo

Bit closer to full strength. Shame oriley is missing should have replaced Roslet I reckon but will be good to see Gomes with this group

When are the next u21 Euros surely not this summer so u19s can play in their tournament and then move into u21s next year. Like you say if we qualify for world Cup then group made up of 97s and 98s should be good.

Next group look stronger than the ones you mentioned j reckon

Caught the 2nd half of the u17s yesterday and they showed exactly why this group will be exciting to watch. Thought the team was great yesterday and Adeniran looked as he has against us. Then you think Dozzell, Slattery and Diallo weren't even playing. Crazy cm options.

Nelson also didn't feature or Heaney. Plus Neufville as a backup LB. Also. Mount looked impressive on his return from injury

To resurrect this great news as the talented Andre Dozzell scores on debut today. Wanted by a load of clubs hope he stays at Ipswich though. Apparently not quite ready for first team but given chance as show of faith and encourage him to stay. Comes on 1 nil down and equalises at 16.

Loving this u17 age group - defence, midfield and attack has incredible strength in depth. Could well win their euros.

Leko has made his PL debut too.

Tom Davies and I believe Connolly got on for Everyone today. I know they love Davies but not really a fan

So what do you and @IGSpur think of the latest E u21 squad ?

Goalkeepers: Angus Gunn (Manchester City), Jordan Pickford (Sunderland)

Defenders: Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Ben Chilwell (Leicester City), Brendan Galloway (Everton), Kortney Hause (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Dominic Iorfa (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Jack Stephens (Southampton), Matt Targett (Southampton)

Midfielders: Lewis Baker (Vitesse Arnhem, loan from Chelsea), Matt Grimes (Swansea City), Nathaniel Chalobah (Napoli, loan from Chelsea), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea), John Swift (Chelsea), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)

Forwards: Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Kasey Palmer (Chelsea) Nathan Redmond (Norwich City), Duncan Watmore (Sunderland), Cauley Woodrow (Fulham)

Change - Bolton Wanderers defender Rob Holding replaces the injured Brendan Galloway.

Doesn't seem a very strong group looking at it - but who else would you bring in ?

Goalkeepers: Freddie Woodman (Newcastle United), Sam Howes (West Ham United), Luke Southwood (Reading)

Defenders: Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (Manchester United), Jake Clarke-Salter (Chelsea), Callum Connolly (Everton), Dael Fry (Middlesbrough), Jonjoe Kenny (Everton), Tafari Moore (Arsenal), Taylor Moore (RC Lens), Fikayo Tomori (Chelsea), Kyle Walker-Peters (Tottenham Hotspur)

Midfielders: Lewis Cook (Leeds United), Ryan Ledson (Everton), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal), Joshua Onomah (Tottenham Hotspur), Reece Oxford (West Ham United), Jordan Rossiter (Liverpool)

Forwards: Tammy Abraham (Chelsea), Adam Armstrong (Newcastle United), Isaiah Brown (Chelsea), Ademola Lookman (Charlton Athletic), Sheyi Ojo (Liverpool), Dominic Solanke (Chelsea)

I'm probably exaggerating a tad but the u21's don't look that much better than the u19 squad, of whom maybe only 8 or 9 of the u21's have played more than a handful of first team games ?

It doesn't I think the striker situation is particularly weak but I don't think there are a lot of options as they are either in the playoffs, or going to u19 Euros, though I don't know how Clough still hasn't got a chance. Also it's a strange situation where the most talented players like Palmer have no senior appearances whereas Iorfa and Hause have tons, and so will constantly get into the squad, whereas again there are probably a lot better defenders at the u19s level

Oh they're most definitely not. I'd probably back our u19s to beat our u21s which is crazy. The talnet in the u19 pool is ridiculous and there are loads of players still excluded. The u21s only match the u19s in midfield really and truly otherwise it's either even or I'd argue the u19s are stronger.

The only thing I don't understand about the u19s and I've written this a couple of places is how they have chosen Tafari Moore, a RB who has been out for most of the season, as a LB, ahead of Henry who made the L1 team of the year. It still confuses me, is he that highly rated, I'm not sure. A KWP/Henry FB parntership would be lethal

To be honest a lot of it is a lot of them who I don't understand the decisions behind like Chalobah, Palmer, Grealish and Grimes. For me Hughes should have been included but that may be a good thing he hasnt gone

Clearly there is a chelsea love in with Southgate, he speaks to as much when talking about academies

Very weak overall, the U20's no different imo
