I'm inclined to agree with this. I'd rather sign someone like Luan who can play at all 4 positions in the attacking band.

He looks excellent. Poch wants the Argentinian 'garra' in his players. Simeone has it, don't see Luan with it, and that mentality can't be coached.

I do agree with you that I like the mentality of the lad and it's not really something you can coach but I honestly can't really see what he has except for that. He's making good runs and is good with his head but other than that he's average or below average in most areas. Probably an upgrade on Janssen though.

Just watched 7 mins of him. Sign him up.

With respect, you could watch a seven minute you tube video of Nicola Berti and think you were watching Messi.

If there's a brilliant way of assessing a player, you tube is probably not it.

Just saying.

He looks good, but is a backup ST from Genoa courted by Fiorentina and Torino really worth the level of secrecy JJ and grey fox have gone for?

I'll be very happy if we sign this kid but doesn't quite stack up on that front to me...

Agree, highly doubt it. The way JJ is going on would suggest Italy is someone most of our competition would be interested in!

Not sure about this one at all.

If it happens it sounds like we're going for a tenacious type over someone more technically gifted in the hope they'll batter their way through defences. Maybe it's what's needed. Poch certainly seems to prefer it.

It involves a lot of patience on the part of the fans while the ball is lost in the final third over and over until eventually something gets through on goal. Could be another one of those where it takes him a couple of seasons to get up to speed. Then again, never seen him play so will reserve judgement/.

I don't believe Poch would sign a striker to "batter" his way through PL defences.

My own sense is that the Simeone mentality and a high work rate are key attractions for Poch.

Eriksen, Lamela and Kane are pretty good at pressing as a unit. But Dele''s press is often poor, and I'm still not convinced Sonny has fully grasped the pack press concept. And let's not get started on Sissoko, whose understanding of when and how to press was on a par with his first touch.

If Simeone is going to be fully committed to the Bielsa/Poch press every minute he's on the pitch, then he becomes a valuable squad option. Particularly on days when the class and intelligence of the likes of Kane & Eriksen is not quite working out, and we need a player to help win the ball high up the pitch through tenacity and determination.

On other days, when everything is coming off for our top class players, then Simeone could be used late on give their legs a rest and help secure the result.

The one thing that is apparent from the 7 minute Scout Nation you tube reel is his ability to score headed goals. That could be very useful.
