We may aswell have a thread for every single player we have in the squad and as soon as they score a goal or make an assist, we can bump the thread and give them credit and forget their ineffectiveness for the past few months.

Thats how it works around here.

Especially with the fickle crew who cannot make their mind up about a player...cough* gibbs *cough (Modric). Their are many more JJ, Zokora examples too.

Maybe the fault lies with the people who see the 'ineffectiveness' in players in the first place? Who aren't able to see that players like Bent need service, they aren't Berbatov, Keane etc and they never claimed to be. Where as those players can take the ball and create their own chances, Bent needs the ball played to him for him to finish it.

I can tell you one thing, if there was a one on one situation, or a chance from 12 yards out.......I know who I'd want to have it.......Darren Bent.

Fair play to Darren Bent had rubbish stream but looked like he miss hit first goal but took second goal well, lets hope this boosts his confidence!

I have backed Darren Bent all along. It works both ways we call also make a thread saying that they are shit every time they play badly.

We needed goals today and he got goals, you can't ask for more than that. If Defoe or Pav had scored two goals people would have been creaming themselves.

You know what Bent got was a kick up his arse which he and a few others deserve.

He looked a different player today and even won a few headers. Now if we can drop another 10 of them.....

Can't argue with any of that, He is a good player but we just don't have the quality in midfield to accomodate a player like Bent. I've said this to my Liverpool friends that they should've signed Bent instead of Keane because thats the type of player they needed.

Unforunately for Bent with Spurs, we need more hard work and creativity from our front men because our midfielders just don't perform on a consistent basis which is why he goes through spells doing very little. Also it is easier to replace one player than it is to change an entire midfield.

Bent consistently scores goals........that's what his job is. He might not be the most glamorous striker in the league, but I for one wouldn't like to see him leave.

Why should Bent carry the can because of an inept midfield? And yeah I do think Bent would be a good fit for Liverpool.

Because it means we go through another window like the summer where we more or less replace an entire team with a new one. It works well on the Playstation but in real life, not so well as you can see from our position in the league. We would need a new midfield that has strength, intelligence, skill and the ability to graft for 90 minutes like the midfielders in chelsea, man u, liverpool, everton, villa.

With the injury to Defoe, Bent is bound to get more chances, if he can score goals on a consistent basis and not score in spells, then maybe there's a future for him at this club. We can't afford our strikers to not score for several months and then bang in a few and then go in hiding again.

Well if service is given to him I am sure he will knock them in. As for our midfield I can confidently say that if any of our midfielders are put up tomorrow then top clubs will come in for them. The problem is not their ability it is their mentality.

Mentality is also a problem but another problem is that all our midfielders have one very good attribute but don't have other attributes to make them really really good players. I honestly believe when we signed them, our hope was that they will develop other areas of their game to make them more complete but this hasn't happened at Spurs.

I don't know how Wenger and Fergy do it but they've done it very well. Maybe we need to be more patient. Our best examples are Lennon, huddlestone and Jenas, they all have one excellent attribute but the progression of other parts of their game has been painfully slow but they are still extremely young, so it can get better well Lennon and huddlestone anyway. Another big problem is that premiership has become ultra competitive and patience is something of the past.

I think what alot of people do is simplify the argument by saying it is just about goals, which to a degree it is! But, while Bent scores lots of goals, probably as many as Berbatov or Keane, he does not contribute to our overall play and cannot play with a partner.

I like him, but I also see his limitations. If we could bring in a player that he could link with and who could help us to retain the ball a bit better up front, I say stick with Bent. If not, get used to playing 1 up front, because it is the only system in which he is truly comfortable!

He managed to do pretty well with Hoochy Coochy at Ipswich.

Bent is a good player, he will always score goals as he is the type of forward who is always in the right place at the right time, he has scored goals throughout his career so i cannot understand all the critisism he gets, the only problem he has ever had a tottenham is the fact that we rarely play to his strengths

he's a decent striker, he's not class, he will do a job for us but we can't rely on him to be our main supply of goals!

Can we rely on Pavlyuchenko? he's only got 3 in the league

How do you arrive at this decision?

why the big deal? bent has no future at spurs beyond the summer.. get over it.

if we were bolton or blackburn, maybe 'boro, bent would be a key player for us.
we're not. we're spurs. to dare is to do.
