Shocking that Gomes isn't there. Not seen a lot of Doni of Roma, but he can't be playing at the level Gomes has been for the last 6 months?

Ronaldinho's hopes of appearing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ received a sizeable blow today when he was overlooked for Brazil's friendly against Republic Ireland.

The match, which will take place in London on 2 March, will be the five-time world champions' last outing before they travel to the tournament, and the 29-year-old playmaker's omission suggests coach Dunga has been unmoved by his recent return to form with AC Milan.

"You (the press) always want big-name players. But for us there is no such thing as a big name or a small name," said Dunga. "We can't create problems for ourselves."

You (the press) always want big-name players. But for us there is no such thing as a big name or a small name. We can't create problems for ourselves.
Dunga explains why Ronaldinho did not make his latest Brazil squad
However, the Seleção coach refused to close the door on Ronaldinho's chances of making his squad for the 19th edition of the FIFA World Cup.

"Every player has a chance," said the USA 1994-winning captain. "We look at the best options for the squad. This time he (Ronaldinho) didn't make it."

Robinho, who joined former club Santos on a six-month loan deal from Manchester City last month, was included in the squad, while there was a recall for Cruzeiro's Gilberto.

Brazil were drawn alongside Portugal, Côte d'Ivoire and Korea DPR in Group G at South Africa 2010. They will begin their campaign against the North Koreans in Johannesburg on 15 June.

Ahhh damn Google!

Brazil coach Carlos Dunga has announced his 23-man squad for the World Cup finals in South Africa this summer.

As was widely anticipated in the weeks building up to the announcement, there is no place for AC Milan star Ronaldinho. Dunga has also omitted Flamengo strikerAdriano and Corinthians pair Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos, all of whom had faint hopes of making the squad. Two of Brazil's rising stars in Alexandre Pato and Neymar are also staying at home.

The core of the team from the qualifying campaign remains though, while there are also call-ups for Tottenham Hotspur 'keeper Heurelho Gomes, Cruzeiro veteran Gilberto and, perhaps most surprisingly, Wolfsburg striker Grafite.

My head is hanging in shame...:silenced:

Obviously blinded by rage, and scratching my head thinking how Gilberto got hold of the pictures of Dunga with the Bangkok ladyboys that have clinched his place in the squad...:)

No Sandro though. Not too surprising considering who is in there.

Hang on, wasn't it Gilberto and Gnomes who apparently spoke different dialects of Brazilian and cost us a goal a couple of season ago?

I honestly can't remember who was in goal for that game, I just remember Gilberto dithering, the keeper not coming out and someone nipping in to slot it past both?

Are Brazil that short on left backs?

Is Maxwell Brazilian? He should be ahead of Gilberto if he is. Klebersen must have resurrected his career since leaving United too.

Btw, where the hell has Anderson of United gone? He's been missing for about six months now.

Do you reckon there is a backlash in brazil over Gilberto like the one here about Carragher?

Gilberto has done very well since going back to Brazil, seems to be playing further up though. Doni and Grafite are two players most Brazilians don't want to see in there.

According to Physioroom.com he's got an ACL knee injury, due back in September.

Anderson had a very severe injury. I can't remember what it is but I know he isn't expected to be fit for the start of the season.

Maxwell is Brazilian. So is Marcello at Real Madrid. I imagine they have done something to upset Dunga.

Delighted for Gomes personally. It's also very good news with regard to re-signing him, I should imagine.
