Remeires was in a threatening position and Gomes had to challenge IMO it was 50/50 unfortunately he was done by the speed, mind you I prefer our keepers to have the bottle to make discussion rather than do a Robinson and stay fixed to the white line like a Oak tree

I honestly find it incredulous that anyone doesn't realise that we have one of the best keepers in the EPL, Europe and certainly the best keeper I've seen at WHL since Jennings (and in my humble opinion he's possibly better than Jennings- and I don't say that lightly)

You make some ridiculous statements B-C, but I think that this one takes the cake. Did you ever watch Jennings? One of the greatest keepers of all time.

He pretty much had his back to the goal - he had no need to get involved at all

Really? You don't want our keeper to be involved when an opposition player has the ball on the six yard line right in front of goal, having got goal side of the defence?

When would you like him to be involved?

We've conceded 22 goals so far this season. After 17 games last season we'd conceded, er, 22 goals. (Mind you, we had two clean sheets last season!)

Maybe some people should stand up and walk about a bit, give their brains some air.

Uuugghhh, you're an idiot mate. Don't you realise we as Spurs fans always need to point the finger at someone?

We're shit because of Palacios, we leak goals because of Gomes. Obvious isn't it?

Our 'poor' form, as some people view it, is purely because we've had an inconsistent XI this season and Harry hasn't had the opportunity to field, what he would see as our best XI... He might not even know it himself yet!

Lacking the ability to finish an opportunity and the numerous CB partnerships are the reasons why we've not picked up a few extra points where we would have liked to. Not individuals.

We've dropped silly points against Birmingham, Sunderland, West Ham and Wigan but so have the others. We're only a couple of wins away from the top FFS!

We've beaten Liverpool at home, picked up a point against City and Chelsea at home, lost to Utd at Old trafford, and beat the scum in their own backyard. That's hardly poor form. OK we would like it to be better, but we've just got to get on with it and get the results we want against them later on.

It's painful to read the rollercoaster reactions on here sometimes. We write off europe if we lose but then the title is ours for the taking when we win.

Sort it out please.

When the player involved doesn't have his back to the goal and moving away from it...

Yes I did, many times, and it's very difficult to compare very different era's, but I don't think it's a ridiculous statement to make. I think as a shot stopper Gomes is the best I've seen in a spurs shirt. Both him and Jenning were good at commanding their box, but things have changed, speed and quality of players, balls and I honestly think that if you beamed Jennings to now he'd be no better than Gomes in the new circumstances.

Harry says that he made up for it, but I dont believe so. The penalty was embarrassing. It doesnt matter whether he saved it or not. Any goalkeeper worth his salt should at least pary a shot away that is hit straight at him.

Its not the first time either this season that he has cost us. I hope he learns to keep his mouth shut in the press until he regains some form.
I would like to tell you what I really think about this post but I would probably be banned. Who should we get instead of Gomes then? Any idea's? I thought so. If you werent so blinkered in your dislike for him, you would have seen that despite Drogba's goal and his penalty challenge and subsequent save, he actually kept us in the game. I will have Gomes anyday playing for my beloved Spurs. Fucking irritating thread.

I like Gomes alot but performances like the chav game really make me lose confidence in him. He can be absolute world class pulling off unbelievable saves then 10 minutes later an absolute clown. I know all goalies make mistakes but the mistakes Gomes make are usually complete shockers. Anytime you get both full hands on the ball and your whole body behind it there's no way in hell it should be ending up behind you in the net. It's not a top priority in january but summer time I wouldn't mind a swap deal for Stekelenburg at Ajax maybe throw afew bob in there too. I want a dull boring reliable keeper not a fucking highlight reel of world class saves and unreal cock ups.

All keepers make mistakes, shit happens. I'm still happy with Gomes, he still saves us more points than he costs us. As for Sunday if some of our out field players had of scored a second goal for us then Gomes's mistake wouldn't have cost us. So in my opinion our strikers etc are as much to blame as our keeper for us only getting a point on Sunday.

If you think Stekelenburg is an upgrade on Gomes, you're barking.

I'll play devils advocate here and say that this thread was about Gomes's contribution towards loosing points etc. not the entire teams.

well my opinion is that Gomes without doubt is the best keeper we have had at the lane in over 20 years, yes he has some flaws but which keeper doesnt. I do believe however he was at fault for the goal against chelsea. Also this whole thing about him being a hero for saving the penalty is complete crap, he caused the penalty so to make the save just cancels it out.
I would say its a bad day at the office for our beloved octopus but i wouldnt dream of changing him, he will come good as he has shown in his spurs career.

maybe he isn't and I've not seen a whole lot of him but the times I have watched him 10-15 games he's looked solid

I've been a big Gomes fan and maybe I'm just still upset about getting so close to beating the chavs but I am in bits watching the extreme extremes that come with our Brazilian number 1 this season

like I said the striker department is of far greater concern though

I here what your saying however its a team game so is it fair to pick out one players contribution? I agree on the penalty but Gomes still made a number of good saves in the match that would of been goals if he hadn't saved them. So my thinking is those saves out weight the mistake for Drogba's goal.

Yes because that is what the whole thread is about. IF a defender made a sloppy back pass and the opposition scored wouldnt he be accountable ?

The number of saves he made during the match are what we expect of him, they werent "world class" saves IMO so therefore they shouldnt count towards cancelling out his mistake.
