Dunno about his defending, but he looks very good at stepping out of defence with the ball like Vertonghen, Dier and Alderweireld. Wimmer is a decent passer, but not as assured at stepping into midfield.

You could have said the same thing when we took Trippier from relegates Burnley.

I like Maguire and wouldn't mind having him here as a rotational CB. He's as close as we're goign to get to Vertonghen in terms of carrying the ball out from the back - he really is exceptional in this area - and I wouldn't have thought he's that much slower than Vertonghen either.

If we're selling Wimmer then getting Maguire in as a replacement makes a lot of sense.

Burnley only conceded 16 more goals than us when we signed him. Their problem was scoring. Anyway it's a fair enough point. He's right footed @worcestersauce so not a Wimmer replacement.

Very good on the ball, fits well from that point of view, patient recycler of it who can go long too.

He's quick enough, too, not sure about positioning, haven't seen enough but that can be coached. Certainly prefer him to Keane and Gibson, the other two northern pretenders...

Doesn't matter if Everton agree a silly high fee or not, if the player wants us that Allam bloke would take our 15m. Perhaps we can let Koeman finally have Sissoko to clear the path?

Just a question of whether Poch wants a different type of option in there, someone really quick for eg, especially if we lose Walkers recovery pace as a tool to deal with counter attacks.

Guess a willingness to pay over the odds for someone with a year left might also boil down to whether he feels CCV is developing into an option within the ranks. He was all over the place against Wycombe and I for one don't want to risk progress in cups by chucking him in against anyone good. Poch has said he will play more though next season though

I think the whole has to be left footed to replace vertonghen is a bit of myth, we played a back 4 when he was injured with Toby and dier despite wimmer being fit, I think maguire has played on the left of a back 3 this season as well

Have heard some of our fans rip into him for some reason.

Is strong, has decent speed to him (he's not as slow as people make out) good at passing the ball out of defence and everytime I see him he looks fully committed which is what Poch wants

Wouldn't be sad if we get him

Honestly you haven't watched him enough anyone who says he is good enough for us is mistaken. He makes mistakes persistently and is extremely slow and i mean slow ffs. He is good technically but he isn't great and am sorry he isn't good enough at this stage or i believe any time in his career for us. He is at fault for many goals with Hull.

I know this as i have watched 95% of Hulls games sadly! He wasn't even their best defender. Dawson was

He is easily has the same pace as toby. He is a classy cb and would suit is very well. Good player and id be very happy. Very focused when he plays and great at playing from the back and stepping forward and playing balls into the front 4.

22m? No shot...10 max!

Highlights how mental the transfer market has got when teams in the championship can charge 15m+ for their players!

3/5 years ago, Hull would have been lucky to get 5m for him!!

For that price you'd easily get Veltman, who also comfortably covers at RB. Problem is both are RCB, neither is left footed.
With a back three, or even a back four with the DM dropping to split the CB's, Poch typically favours the CB's on their natural side, as they become hybrids of FB and CB. The reason we appear to have reverted to a back 4 on occasion, is in my opinion because Poch doesn't have faith in Wimmer at LCB. Tried him against City and he got hooked, reverted to back 4 until Jan was fit. Likewise when Toby got injured, reverted to a back 4, perhaps wasn't comfortably with CCV coming in?
Key here is, does Poch feel he can mould Wimmer into a comfortable LCB, if not, then he needs replacing. Maguire isn't that player. Only reason for Maguire is if CCV isn't deemed close enough yet, or if Dier is being moved back into DM.

Maguire has played LCB for Hull a lot I think.

Maguire is awful. Some claim that he's quick. Quicker than Dawson maybe but jesus we want to compete for the PL and CL. Why would we resort to a CB that got relegated this season?? I would be absolutely fuming if we sold Wimmer and replaced him with Maguire.

Dont see the point of this. CB's rarely need resting (Poch has never seen the need), so unless we get an injury to 2 of our 3 CB's this guys just going to be sat on the bench all season. Rather use CCV for that and use that £20m to strengthen the first team.

This strikes me as another 'moneyball' investment signing rather than a signing thats really going to improve us.

No chance we are paying £22 million for a back up centre back. In what universe does Levy do that?

What a waste of money this would be when we have Wimmer and a great prospect in CCV coming through!

Really not sure about him seen a few games, quite solid certainly not quick or that composed on the ball.

Much more suited to a WBA or a Stoke
