I am totally sceptical about the Spanish/ Italian market now after seeing player after player just not suited to the league:

Alberto, Aspas, Fazio (until now), Falque, Borini, Lamela (to an extent), Gio (!!!) or Granero for example. It is a huge gamble and I would rather look elsewhere but at least Poch knows him and we would all know where this signing would come from. He was good at the World CUp.

What a pointless post.
For every failure there is a success: Aguero, Torres, Yaya Toure, Silva, Herrera.......

I have a really bad feeling about this signing. What's this about managers always signing each and everyone of the players at their former clubs?

Because they know the players. They know whether they will fit in with the formations, tactics etc... that the manager wants to use. They are also a known quantity in terms of skills and attributes that the player offers.

Bit of an obvious answer for this one.

Really hope we bring him in.

Between Vertonghen not signing a contract and just overall not playing consistently well I hope we have options (not named Kaboul) if we decide to move him on.

Looks a useful player I think Kaboul has really cocked up...

He is pretty short, could struggle in the PL, not convinced.

He's 6'.

We also have Fazio, Dier and Verts all above 6'2", who can be used against strikers like Carroll, Benteke and Lukaku. Essentially we'd never have to partner him with another non-tall CB.

I think Kaboul is on his way out for sure

I don't think this guy is seen as his replacement though

I suspect its more with Vert's impending exit in mind (as the Vorm signing was in preparation for Lloris departure I believe)

I think the window will probably tell us more - depending on if the likes of Vlad also move on or not

Once Walker and Yedlin are back Dier will be back in contention to play centre back and this will add to the depth there again makes you question why we would want this guy (unless of course we know Verts wants out in the summer)

I suspect this summer will see the departure of both Vertonghen and Lloris so this guy coming in makes sense

I doubt we'd sign Lloris's replacement 13 days after Lloris signed a new contract.

Lloris primarily signed a new contract because his family (especially wife) love living in London (isn't it now the 3rd or 4th biggest French city by population). He'll be here for a while I think

Is that from "ITK"?

It may or may not be true but I wouldn't take it as gospel unless he has said so himself (or something stronger than ITK mumblings which brought us such gems as "After Modric heard the crowd signing his name post match preseason Niko turned to him and asked how can you leave now....to which he emotionally replied I can't" days before he signed for Real)

I'd say most likely his primary motivation for signing a new contract was to receive an increase in wages and our primary reason to offer him one (in addition to reward his good form and helping to motivate him) would be to be able to command a higher fee for him as and when we need to sell

We don't know what assurances were made to him regarding a move to a bigger club, or what contact he's had with the likes of Real....we do know however that Levy made such promises to Modric and that Bale had been in contact with Real prior to the window in which he moved to them.

I think we signed Vorm to be in place should we be forced to sell Lloris in the summer or even next summer for the sake of smooth transition in such a vital area.

I think we know that if a big club like Barca or Real (even PSG) come in he's likely to want to force a move and we're likely to have to sell and we certainly don't want to be scrambling around trying to buy someone to replace him at the end of a window (as we all know Levy would make any sale come down to the end to drum every last cent out of the deal)

So my personal opinion is that Vorm was signed with an eye on replacing Lloris as and when he moves rather than to be a cover/back up keeper and that is irrespective of the fact he signed a new contract 13 days before Vorm joined.

I may be wrong of course - but that is my take on the situation

Because even Levy wouldn't do something that stupid.
How is it stupid to sign a goalkeeper to replace our most important player a decent time before he leaves so he can make a smooth transition into the first team to replace him as and when he's sold rather than scrambling to find a replacement at the end of a summer window after our hand gets forced to sell him like we've seen happen with Bale, Modric and Berba etc?

I'd say it would be a great deal more stupid not to already have a replacement in place training with the squad for a period of time and ready to take over than it would be to have to throw a new keeper in at the deep end and expect him to hit the ground running like we have with our strikers in the past i.e. after we sold Keane and Berba
