Financially it would give us penetration in the Far East that could result in massively increased revenue for years to come. Levy may be thinking about this with the fair play regulations coming into effect.

As a squad player he might be ok and if he was interesting in doing his coaching badges that could be a bonus. However, we have a very strong squad now and I can't see him getting much time with us.

Exactly an absolute no brainer, increase our revenue so we can afford to keep Adebayor and he'd be able to play in the Europa League with the 2nd XI.

His US contract expires in November:

Personally, I'd welcome it.

He seemed to have had a positive effect when he came to the Lane to train; he'd definitely help with some people needing to learn to cross better; and if he brings in some revenue selling a few shirts, I'm all for it.

Oh, I'm sure he'd get a some games too. :)

WHY????? Not needed

His cult figure is on the wane; so slae of merchandize may not be that good after all. What else will he bring except distraction and envies from real stars like DVD and Bale?

Yeah, never cut the mustard at Utd did he?

Never cut it at Madrid either.

If only Lennon had started more games for England ahead of Becks we might have gone further in major comps.

*Yes i'm being sarcy.

Tell (in sarcy) about his performance (not) against quarter, semi and final world cup teams in tourniment or European later stages

An average player who made the most of his talent and played football .... in the 1990's. Were he anything BUT English he would have been an 'also ran'....but then along came Spice World etc....and Showbusiness! No...I am not a fan (although the guy himself seemed rather nice) COYS!

Posts like these kinda miss the point, I'm afraid.
I don't even disagree with anything you say, was never a fan, and, unlke you, don't even think he was rather nice.

It doesn't matter how the cult of Beckham came into being, or whether his footballing ability ever warranted it. The only real consideration is whether or not given him a position at our club would benefit the club or not - in any way.

Up until recently I was as dead-set against it as you are, Pard'Ner, but then I began to look at the issue as something more than what he would give us on the pitch.

The negatives, as we all know, are that he is old, mitigating against whatever talent he did have, he would use up a squad place, and he would cost a lot of money.

The positives, as I see them, are that he would generate more financially than he would cost, he would raise our glbal profile and fan base, and, something no-one else seems to be considering, a whole generation of young talent, who idolise him, would be fapping and falling over themselves to get the opportunity to train with, and, later, under, the guy. Look at it this way, if these was a major fap fap fap young talent who had the choice between joining us or Barcelona, it would be a dream for most of them to join Barca (would would an  consideration, at best, as we are a decent club with soon to have good training facilities). Now, if you add a player who that kid had posters of all over their bedroom wall, and dreamed of playing with, into the balance on our side, and we would have a pretty good wow factor. I, for one, am totally convinced of the financial benefits, and when you look at our where we ant to go right now, and how we are struggling to compete financially to do it, that is absolutely massive. Ditto, the global fan base issue - Becks would kick-start that.

If the cost of this is allowing an ageing footballer of reasonable talents to turn out for us in a few Europa games, where he might be a good option along with the younglings, and a few trot-outs in games we are comfortable in, then so be it.

And who knows, he might also turn out to be a great coach in the longer run (can help out Sir Les in teaching our strikers to score Eek).
