Does he look a little bit leaner already or was i just watching it on some dodgy wide-screen in the pub?

No, I was hoping he was going to, but he never. I saw him playing for the U21s last week and he didn't look any thinner then.

Zokora looked comfortable sat in front of the back four, although they were much less of a threat in the second half as our ball retention and attacking play was mies better than it had been before half-time.

Nevertheless, he did what had obviously been asked of him very effectively. And, to put it ever so politely, looks much more suited to the simpler role!

Huddlestone was brilliant anyway and merits his place either on the pitch or on the bench. We have won so many games he has played (check out the statistics, its all there!!) and he really gives us an actual direct attacking game.... His pass straight down the middle to Berba was testament to that...

Sorry Nidge -

Thought Huddlestone was decent as well! Still a massive question mark against his mobility, and how it hampers him against the tastier teams, but I detected a bit of desire/aggression in him tonight as well. He normally looks so lumbering and friendly!

he can pick a pass better than most, and if you can't see that then those E's have gone to your head techno kid.

You have absolutley no idea do you. Get off this topic and go and watch re runs of Huddlestones best games for us. Against Derby this season, Against Man Utd this season, The Uefa cup last season, The peace cup the season before and the list goes on. He is BRILLIANT and you need to either go and talk shi* in another topic or put some glasses on...

Guys can we keep this on topic.

If you want to discuss the merits of playing Zokora in a CB role either in a 2 or 3 centre backs setup please start a new thread.

Considering it's usually either The Hudd or Zokora playing at one time i think talking about Zokora is completely relevant to this thread to be honest.

Huddlestone is average at best, he can fon occasion make a nice pass, but the vast majority of them do end up in the keepers arms, or go out into touch. That's not to say he won't be a good player, he is still young. But at the moment I certainly would not start him over Zokora or Jenas, who are starting to develop a nice understanding of eachother under Ramos.

Yes, but the thread is about Tommy, who changed the style of the game in the second half. The boy has class, which not too many players have. He is still slow, but hopefully under Ramos will become more effective with the speed of his play.
I like him and I think Ramos does too. Much better than JJ in the same position.
Now as for Zokora...................

But in the last 2 games alone, we've witnessed how poorly the work together and how much better we are when that partnership is split up. Against Wham we were 1-0 down (for which Zokora in CM was very much at fault for), then Zokora drops back and Steed moves into CM and we look alot better. Today JJ and Zokora play together and we are 2-0 down until the pairing is split up. Not only were we losing both games, but I don't think we created a real chance in either half they played together.

The understanding between JJ and Zokora in the first half tonight appeared to be that JJ would play for both of them. Huddlestone is still far from the finished article, but to call him average is absurd. It's also absurd that we have Blackburn fans coming on here and saying, 'If you don't want him, yes please,' when our own supporters are gleefully writing him off.

yes when Jenas plays with zokora teams go straight through our middle. People say our defence is shaky but i say its the shitness and light weighted nature of our centrel midfield. It means that teams dont even have to stretch us or hit us on the break, they can literally cut right through our middle like a knife through butter. Huddlestone shores up the midfield unqestionably but he does need to get a bit quicker. He is a fantastic footballer though and has that presence on the ball that only Ledley and Berby have other than him... Big fan of Tommy!

the onl reason Hudd looked so good today (ne is good but not great) was because Bent pushed the back line up, keane and berabtov droped off causing there midfield no end of problems giving hudd alot more time on the ball!

he did some fuck off pass's though and him and Bent coming on in the new formation was the key points.... if we didnt have those 2 on i dont think it would have worked as well

zok and jenas are the worst pairing in CM...tainio is far more effective than Zok

We don't have anyone else in the squad who can orchestrate that kind of fluid attacking play from central midfield. His speed of thought and range of passing are second to none - when hes got his head right he simply makes us play a better style of football. He has an intuitive understanding of where the ball should be at any point in time. Its all one and two touch stuff and almost always the right idea. He acts as a quarterback does in American Football, directing play, dictating the tempo of attacks - pulling the strings. If the team were an animal, he'd be it's brain!

No matter how many technically gifted athletes you have in a team you need a core of players who have that kind of natural footballing brain. We have Keane who has that same kind of genius - but you can't dictate build-up play from a forward position. We 100% need to have a ball-playing midfield general - otherwise we are simply an expensive collection of athletes playing without any on-field direction!

Arsenal have Fabregas, Manure have Scholes AND Carrick. We only have Hudd - until we sign Fabregas Mk II or re-sign Carrick he must be accommodated in the team.

One more point - hes no less mobile than Carrick. MC has no pace to speak of and is not particularly strong - but he does have technique and tactical acumen in spades - just like our Tommy!

Tom isn't a player to be slotted into a system - if you play him you've got to build the system around him - only then will you see what he can really offer.

Anderson is another UTD player that can play that quatre-back role. He's been so impressive lately. A quality signing.
