Thought he had a really good game when he came on, was most impressed, lets hope he impressed Ramos enough to get back in the squad.

his passing is brilliant. Easily the best passer on the team. That is a hugely important asset to bring to any team.

I think Huddlestone will be awesome. He's not complete yet and has the odd bad game but if we don't stick with him and instead get rid of him we'll regret it the rest of his career. All the talk about England being crap was to do with us not have technically gifted players - Tom is one of those. Although he'll never look smaller, I think he looked fitter yesterday - I think his main problem wasn't neccessarily that he was overweight, but that he wasn't doing enough stamina training. Those can be connected but not neccessarily.

In a few years time with the right guidance the hudd could be a class Pirlo style playmaker. A lot of the time the english players that get all the plaudits are the ones that run all over the place, give it their all and score goals but aren't so good at the more thoughtful passing side of the game. With all the fuss about how the national team needs more creative players I think it's crazy how much stick the hudd gets when he really could be that exact missing type of english midfielder, if we give him time. He's only 20.

For me, it comes down to...

Plus: Vision, distribution

Minus: Mobility, lack of aggression

All in all, I'd be disappointed if we sold him. He's not the finished product yet but I'd question the sanity of anyone who dismisses him as shit.

But I do think his development and future career path will reveal exactly how much the modern game relies on fitness and speed, as he's never going to be a box-to-box whippet.

I wish you'd said Les Ferdinand and Franz Beckenbauer.

Then I could have said:

"Franz Ferdinand "

It would have been great. :-(

I think some people are over reacting with the hudd, hes no where near brilliant. He can pass the ball but thats all he can do, for a man his size he doesn't offer anything more to the team.

Hopefully ramos will show the defence and hudd how to tackle.

And on zokora, first half he was shit secound half he looked at home. Think he and us learnt something about how he should play.

tell u one thing his passing was exceptional

and hasnt robinson lost shit loads of weight ?????

I always thought he was just naturally a bit chubby and on the large side, but damn he must have lost half a stone easily. I think if he can keep his weight down and his fitness and confidence up he will be back to being the good old Robbo we know.

Ideal example. In the last minute, we scrape the ball out of the box (think it was Bale) it comes to Huddlestone, who holds off his man, then from the edge of his own box to halfway inside the oppo's half he finds Lennon with a perfect ball.

Top top passing ability.

Cheers for that Stoof, i remeber the pass but just didn't see who hit it. For about 10mins before we were just kicking it up feild, noone near it and they just attacked again. This gave us the chance to releave the pressure for a bit.

Hudd was realy good last night, but again it was in a game where he was given time and space. I dont think Hudd would have been effective in the first half as it didn't look like there was as much space between the midfeild and the strikers to find space.

Thought Boetang looked good as well, the yellow card was a joke. Could become a useful midfeilder this season.

Whilst Huddlestone did have a good game last night, you have to take into major consideration the class of opposition last night.

The likes of Gerrard and Makalale wouldn't give him the time and space on the ball to have a good game.

There is no doubt he has potential, like so many of our players. But he along with the rest of the players have to do it on a more consistant basis to be able to fulfill there potential, and become the class players we all hope they can be.

Only time will tell I guess.

What sort of statement is that? lol.

Most players are redundant without the ball :duh:

Lennon? Hes a first team regular, he`s the type of player who is only really dangerous with the ball.

Go away.

TOM HUNDREDSTONE IS A FATTY! HE HAS TO GO! HE DOESN'T HAVE A PLACE IN OUR TEAM. HE IS USELESS AND HAS NO MOBILITY. EVEN HIS PASSING IS SH*T. HE IS OVERWEIGHT AND HE SUCKS. FAT FAT FAT.

DID I MENTION HE WAS FAT?

Only seen the highlights, but that pass from Hudd to Berba was one of the finest I've seen in a very long time. Excellent vision, excellent technique - and a really beautiful goal.

the onl reason Hudd looked so good today (ne is good but not great) was because Bent pushed the back line up, keane and berabtov droped off causing there midfield no end of problems giving hudd alot more time on the ball!

he did some fuck off pass's though and him and Bent coming on in the new formation was the key points.... if we didnt have those 2 on i dont think it would have worked as well

Exactly right. All our midfielders look average to poor when Keane and berbatov both drop deep. Two forward players always looking for the ball to feet and most of the time at least one of them (berbatov mainly) not making runs, makes it difficult for any midfield player to link up with. There is simply no space. Jenas's second goal against Derby is one scenario that shoudl unfold more while Jenas's attempt at his hatrick after beating a few players is another. Both examples is not in Hudds "locker".

Jenas commented in the pre-season how much easier it is to play with a willing runner like Bent. When in doubt you can always play the percentage ball.

Hudd would struggle if he played more regularly with keane and Berbatov. Unless Keane plays more on the shoulder of the last defender.

The sort of midfielder that links well with Berb and Keane is someone we don;t have Hleb/Fabregas/Scholes, quick footed, play it fast and simple with good football brains type of players. Maybe Boateng is more like that type of player and maybe Malbranque could be used more centrally, not sure...But Huddlestone isn't that sort of player either and he doesn't have the quick feet in confined spaces required to link up with Berbatov and Keane. Hudd is excellent at seeing the through ball but Keane and Berbatov simply don't make those sort of runs. With the berbatov goal last night an exception.

Therefore, Hudd still has a lot to learn if he is to be any better than jenas/Zokora when we play Berbatov and Keane.

Berbatov and Keane playing together is a terrible pairing.

I can understand their selection, they are both very good, if sometimes frustrating, players but they do not work as a pairing.
Their inability to provide balance makes our midfield appear to be poor. There is no movement, no running the channels, no-one on the shoulder of the last defender and no-one doing the basics such as hassling the opposition defenders.

Last night whenever a midfielder looked up the pair of them were stood on the D with their thumbs up their arses.
In our 'poor' first half the ball went into their feet, was crossed into the box, and played through on many occasions yet they created/got on the end of nothing.

When Bent came on he offered a much more simpler but far more effective style of play which gave us the much needed balance up front.
Ramos now faces the same decision as Jol, our two best/most popular forwards don't work together, which one does he drop?
