16:18 GOAL - Hull 1-1 Spurs - Paulinho (61 mins)
They've not been great today, but Spurs are level after some fine Brazilian finishing at the KC. Danny Rose smashes in a shot from 30 yards, he mishits it somewhat and it falls at the feet of Paulinho, who gathers it in, swivels and lashes the ball high into the roof of the net. Fine strike.
HALF-TIME - Hull 1-0 Spurs
15:11 GOAL - Hull 1-0 Spurs - Shane Long (12 mins)
£7m well spent! Shane Long grabs his first goal for Hull after some classic front-two play. It's route one stuff, Nikica Jelavic makes a nuisance of himself and helps the ball on for Long to chase, he gets clear of the chasing pack and fires past the keeper with his left foot. Classic stuff!

Hull City welcome Tottenham to the KC Stadium as they look to end a run of four straight Premier League defeats.

Steve Bruce's side have won just one of their last 10 top-flight fixtures and now sit just four points above the drop zone.

Bruce has been boosted by the January arrivals of strike duo Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic, from West Brom and Everton respectively, although the Tigers have failed to find the net in any of their last four outings.

Spurs will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday night's 5-1 demolition at the hands of Manchester City as Tim Sherwood suffered his first Premier League loss as a manager.

Sherwood's men have enjoyed victory in all of their last five league games on the road and currently occupy fifth position, three points short of Liverpool in the final Champions League spot.

The two sides have already met twice this season, with Spurs victorious on both occasions, winning 1-0 at White Hart Lane back in October before a penalty shoot-out win in the Capital One Cup just three days later after a 2-2 draw.

Hull have not beaten Tottenham at home for over 36 years since a 2-0 Second Division victory in 1977 and Spurs have won both of their Premier League visits to the KC Stadium.

Tottenham

Spurs are hopeful of having Paulinho (foot) and Jan Vertonghen (ankle) available for the trip to the KC Stadium.

Tim Sherwood will remain without Andros Townsend (hamstring) and Erik Lamela (hip), while the game could to come too soon for Younes Kaboul who is still recovering from a thigh injury.

Emmanuel Adebayor is likely to continue up front for the visitors and he is looking to find the net in his fourth successive away game.

Hull

Steve Harper is set to start in goal for Hull as Allan McGregor serves a suspension for a red card picked up in the 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Robbie Brady (groin) and Maynor Figueroa (muscle problem) could also return for the Tigers if they are adjudged to have passed late fitness tests, although Sone Aluko (Achilles) remains sidelined.

Stephen Quinn could start in midfield as Jake Livermore is unable to play against his parent club, while new arrivals Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic are poised to make their home debuts.

Steve Harper will deputise in goal for Hull, with Allan McGregor starting a three-match suspension after his midweek red card.

Stephen Quinn is in line to start in midfield as Jake Livermore is ineligible against his parent club.

Tottenham defender Danny Rose is available after the red card he received against Manchester City in midweek was overturned on appeal.

Long-term absentees Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and Paulinho are all fit.

Tottenham's hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League took an almighty battering with Wednesday night's 5-1 drubbing at home to Manchester City, making it imperative that they quickly return to winning ways at Hull.

Despite their midweek humiliation, Spurs should make the trip north in confident mood given their current brilliance on the road. Five wins in a row is their best away run since the heady days of 1960, when they managed 10 on the spin between April and October.

They have recent fond memories of the KC Stadium too, winning 5-1 on their last visit in August 2009 when Jermain Defoe helped himself to a hat-trick.

Opponents Hull City appear vulnerable and are currently enduring their worst spell of the campaign. I saw them end 2013 in truly amazing style, whacking in six second-half goals against Fulham, but perhaps it's even more amazing that they haven't scored or picked up a point in their first four games of 2014.

Steve Bruce was already sufficiently concerned by his team's shyness in front of goal to splash out around £14m on Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long early in the transfer window. Big money, especially for Hull, and quite a gamble too as Long only managed three goals for West Brom this season, while Jelavic's last Premier League goal came nearly 11 months ago!

Even so, the duo represent a significant upgrade on what Bruce had available before and he really needs them to quickly back his judgement before Hull sink any closer to the relegation zone.

They are just four points clear now, but even a point from this one would represent a step in the right direction.

facts.jpg

Head-to-head

  • Tottenham have won their only two Premier League games at Hull - the last game in Yorkshire ended 5-1 to Spurs, with Jermain Defoe netting a hat-trick.
  • Spurs won the reverse fixture this season thanks to a late Roberto Soldado penalty.
Hull City

  • Hull have gone four league games without either a goal or a point since putting six past Fulham.
  • They have earned nearly four times as many points from their 11 home league games (18) than in 12 away fixtures (five points).
  • The Tigers, along with Cardiff, have had the fewest shots on target in the league this season (71).
  • George Boyd is the most used substitute in the division this season (15 times).
  • New signing Nikica Jelavic has failed to score in any of his 11 Premier League appearances this term.
Tottenham

  • Only Arsenal (26) have earned more points on their travels than Tottenham (25) this season, with the Gunners having played one game more.
  • Spurs have won their last five away league games, their best run since 1960. However, their last clean sheet on the road was seven games ago, on 3 November.
  • Soldado's decisive penalty in the corresponding fixture on 27 October was his fourth league goal of the season; he's scored just once in 10 Premier League appearances since.
  • In contrast, Emmanuel Adebayor has scored five goals in his last seven league games.
  • Spurs have won nine of their 11 games against bottom-half opposition (D1, L1).

Actually really confident of a win here. No reason why we shouldn't be able to just forget the City defeat and return to the form that won us 16 out of 18 points in the previous 6 games.

Hopefully we'll have a bit of a pre-match boost by hearing that a couple of our injured lads are back at least on the bench.

Need to put the City game behind us and go on another run.

Hopefully Soldado, Vertonghen & Paulinho all start. COYS!

It's a good thing we have another match so soon after last night.

Strange that none of Vertonghen, Kaboul, Sandro and Paulinho were even on the bench for City. Sherwood seemed to suggest they were all in contention after training last week and playing up to an hour in a friendly. Perhaps he thought they weren't ready for that particular match. Hopefully at the least a couple of them will be on the bench for Hull.

I suspect Sherwood knew fine rightly that we would get spanked no matter what happened, so maybe thought he may as well rest them for the weekend!

I really hope that isn't the case. Yeah, most of us expected to lose but Sherwood should be the one above everyone else who thinks we can win every game. We looked for a brief period (before the intervention of the hopeless linesman) that we would get back into the game. Add say, Sandro and Vertonghen into the team last night and we'd have done better. Imagine how beating Man City could have affected our confidence.

Hull at the KC will be a tough game, they are very good at home. They also have Long and Jelavic now. Crucial game for us, need to see how the team responds.

Would be the perfect game for a couple of players to come back in and reinvigorate the squad - Vertonghen, Paulinho, etc.

Any dropped points here would be a massive blow to our hopes of a top 4 finish. We cannot roll out anything resembling the team we saw yesterday. Vertonghen, Paulinho, Soldado and Sandro should all start (give Dembele a rest) and we should go 4-4-2 with two up top and Eriksen on the left.

Coming up, we've got Tim Sherwood's thoughts ahead of our trip to @hullcityteam tomorrow.

Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial 3m
Tim: "We know it will be a tough game – going to Hull is never easy, especially after the City defeat. We have to bounce back."

Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial 2m
Tim: "You’d expect the lads to be down. I don’t expect them to be doing cartwheels around the training ground after losing 5-1."

Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial 2m
Tim: "You have to get rid of that disappointment, get it out of your system. We’ll do that and we’ll be ready to go again on Saturday."

Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial 1m
Tim on team news: "Jan, Paulinho, Sandro, Younes all training and ‘almost ready to play’. Andros and Erik still out."
