I’m not going to stand here and defend the agent, because he absolutely could be a parasite - lots of them are. But the Barca slant on some of these articles (all from Barca journos) seems over the top. As far as I can tell, the story is:

Barca wanted to renew his contract, on a 6 year deal with a massive release clause. He asked for wages matching a six year deal with a massive release clause, but Barca can’t give anyone pay rises at the moment, half their players are taking pay cuts just to stay solvent (which is absolutely not the responsibility of a youth player to do, by the way).

So his agents reject the deal (didn’t we just have a transfer saga where the moral of the story was don’t sign a six year deal if the terms aren’t to your liking)? Barca throw a fit and say they won’t play him at all with his contact running down.

So the agent tell them to do one, and go line up a new deal, not with PSG or Chelsea but with one of the best clubs in the world for developing young players. Because of the contract issues, they negotiate better wages and fees, since RB get to skip the transfer fee. Nothing very weird about that.

Then RedBull go to Barca and offer a few € for the player now, knowing he’s worthless to Barca otherwise. They get offended, and start looking for suitors who will pay more. Paratici gets wind and gets involved.

Now the player has two options - an offer from Spurs on probably pretty decent terms, or an offer from RB on more money (because of the lack of transfer fee) but the prospect of a year in the reserves. The agent’s preference, probably, is to strongarm Barca into taking the lowball offer now. If Barca hold firm, which it seems they are, then a decision must be made.

From the noises we’ve been hearing, the player likes our offer. We won’t know the agent’s position until it’s over. And Barca are pumping out tons of negative press to cover the fact that one of their best talents is leaving them mostly because of their own financial stupidity.

There's one thing I can't quite get my head around in all this, though. Barca's financial position may mean that they can't offer a big pay rise, but there's nothing forcing them to insist on a 6-year deal with a massive release clause either. If they really wanted to keep him, couldn't they compromise on that side of things instead?

No idea. Maybe they don’t want to set a precedent if negotiating too much with youth players? Maybe the agent just personally pissed them off?

I expect the 6 year deal mirrors the 5 year deal they offered messi (in circumstance, not value) - that is, creative financing to cover a contract they can't afford to offer on 2 year terms.

Pedri wasn’t La Masia. So you can go ahead and say he’s the prized jewel out of La Masia at the moment :D
Ansu is their number 1 La Masia star for me, Puig and Ilaix are all top prospects too though.

I've never heard of a situation like this. Surely he tells them what he's going to do? I don't see how they have a say

could be that these agents have him signed a bad contract where he’s stuck? There’s stories of agents preying on young players and sticking them with one-sided contracts.

Don’t look at me. I’m irrelevant.

ROGON agency is led by Roger Wittmann who is German and clearly has close ties to Leipzig. His main clients are all German or German speaking.

If I had to guess I'd say Moriba goes to Leipzig (just a guess).

Jeez. That sucks for the player. He can’t decide his own future or have any say? That is fucked up.

This is a big red flag for another reason. Wittman was the agent behind the Max Meyer debacle. Ran down his contract at Schalke making outlandish claims and demands about how Meyer should be paid like a top champions league starting caliber player, constantly planting stories linking him with every big club. Wound up at Palace, got his contract terminated two years later. Now a free agent without a club.

They represent Sabitzer, Firmino and Draxler too so not all their guys are bums.

I believe that in an era where they’re strapped for cash, they’re leaning on the senior pros quite firmly to take pay cuts and wage deferrals they’re insulted that this kid is asking for a significant pay rise.

It sets a bad example and is not in keeping with their austerity.

Compare it to Pedri - which I think is what Barça are asking their young players to do. Get involved, help the team and the big cash awaits in future years

They know it will be harder to sell from Spurs than RB.

Yeah I'm not sure that's a wise move....not for a 18/19 year old. If there's truth in it then it's best we walk away.
Unless he’s that good (caveat I’ve never seen him play!). Don’t you pay for the talent, not the age?

So apparently we wouldn’t pay ings 125k a week who will score 15 goals a year and able to play with and cover Kane but we will pay a kid who could drop either way?? About sums us up tbf. What happened to the thinking of one striker in/ 2 if Kane moves on anyway?

You right but age is a key factor. You can't pay a youngster that type of money. You inviting attitude problems and up and coming academy players will want the same. When he's a fully fledged member of the team producing commanding performance then yes. Or else we end up with another Tanguy Ndombele.
