Having just read Fergie's book:

Fergie was always looking to the future with his signings, not the present. We on the other hand spent £100 million and expect the players to get us straight into CL.

Mind you, towards the end of the book, Fergie states that Nick Powell is a certain England star of the future......

Thats easy to do though when you have a team and squad that is constantly winning things. It's easier to look at the future. We however are on the cusp and had just lost the 3rd best player in the world at the time, you can't plan for the future, you need players who can hit the ground running

I switched over at HT yesterday to watch the rugby instead

It is not often I do that, if ever

I never do - as on Sunday, I always have a strange compunction to watch to the final whistle - no matter how dire or humiliating.

Just underlines, again, how fantastic our away support was yesterday!

Our support is magnificent I agree pity our team isn't which now seems quite perverse how avb had the gall to blame them when he should be looking at himself and his underachieving team instead.

There is no point playing through balls to a striker who is slower than the centre backs he plays against.

I don't think it quite works like that.
If you vids of him scoring at Valencia you will see he does, quite often run on to through balls - unless Spanish defenders are all considerably slower than English ones (is anyone slower than Rio Ferdinand? - I don't mean at running :) - maybe his brotha!) I would have to question that.

I think that anticipation and reaction gives a yard start and over a relatively short distance that yard start and the ability to use nous and upper body to keep ahead of the defender is more important than the raw pace of a Bale over 50 yards, TBH. If not, it does beg the question as to why we are playing the line the way we do and why he is constantly looking to peel off the last defender and pointing where he wants the ball - if he knows he would be too slow, why would he do that?

In any case, I, personally, feel there is more in every way to come from the guy - just my opinion, of course (and even up until during his loan to Birmingham I was still too shell-shocked to believe that David Bentley really was not going to get any better - so what do I know).

I think top half is beyond us.
I think a player revolt is coming. They'll get beat every week until AVB is sacked.
They don't look happy at all and that's down to ineffective restrictive tactics.

ill make you a £20 bet to be donated to spurscommunity that we don't finish in the bottom half of the table

Results don't effect my love for the club.

I must say, football and the permier league specifically, isn't particularly enjoyable anymore for me. I find myself watching less and less premier league games every season. I rarely watch Match Of The Day anymore either.

If Tottenham ceased to exist from today, I wouldn't follow anything that happens in the prem.

I have felt like this for a few seasons now, im obsessed with spurs but don't think I like football anymore never watch any other matches expect our games or games that affect to us towards the end of the season

That's what concerns me though.

I think Ade is part of the answer.
Until the past week apparently Andre didn't?
I'm seriously concerned about his man-management skills, which we already know from his time at Chelsea are dubious.

If I was in charge, i'd take the whole squad to Alton Towers tomorrow followed by a piss-up in a brewery.
These guys need to bond, too often they look like they've just met or cliquey.

Regards the original topic, i'm more into Spurs now than i've ever been, but I know less about the whole game in general. One result does not finish the season. Persistently carrying yesterday's men like Dawson, Defoe, Lennon and sadly Kaboul isn't helping. Transition is an annoyingly slow process.

I've been saying all season his management of Adebeyor is a worrying indication of his lack of management skills.

I do agree wholeheartedly with the notion that we do not play enough through balls, I just do not think soldado is the appropriate recipient.

I am not sure if defenders in the premier league are faster than in la liga, but they are certainly better. I saw an interesting article today that stated there has been around 17 games that have been settled by 3 or more goals in the premier league this season, whereas there has been 28 in la liga.

I have a sneaking suspicion that soldado is one of those one dimensional one pace strikers that do not translate well to other leagues, a la Raul and morientes.

I feel strangely comforted by a gubbing. It's like an old friend for THFC. Not at all upset by this result really. Shit or get off the pot time from now on as a consequence. It wasn't a close loss and doesn't leave us with many/any positives overall. Shit will either change for the better or it won't and we've all seen our fair share of managers/HCs come and go to spot the beginning of that process.

I still very much hope that this works out and it isn't a false dawn but bleh. I guess I've just finally reached an age and stage of my life where, short of relegation woes, I simply can't get that worked up or angsty about it.

Interesting.

I fucking love the game. I actually prefer having a day when we're not playing as I can just sit and enjoy whats on offer without nerves/anger. Like the mersyside derby at the weekend, how can a game like that not make you love football, even without spurs playing?

No idea, I didn't watch it!

Getting a step closer to being done, especially if AVB gets the sack. The moaning from fans is just relentless and I'm also fed up with the double standards of fans.

Fans have always and will always be like that. We invest our hearts not out heads into our clubs. Lets people be flippent. Theyll come round eventually. As for avb getting sacked, that's the reality of a hardcore results driven business and all that brings, unfortunately.

As in other areas of life, by they time they come around it will be too late.

Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.
Sacking manager after manager every time they have a bad run of form or miss out on the CL will not progress us.

You'd have thought by now, Levy might want to try something different and stick with the person he hired as the best person for the job.

Nah. If things don't improve by the NY (at least in terms of having a good run of wins, however ugly they might be) I think he'll go after someone obvious like Laudrup. And there'll likely be a bounce back. Maybe even a couple of yrs of joy. We'll be right back here in the not too distant future though.

Nice to see Vlad get his first.

.

He isn't being sacked for missing out on CL. That would have seen him gone last May. He's being sacked for having no clue on how to set a team up to play winning football in the PL.

I LOVE football, and I love watching football even if it isn't us playing. I like the different styles and tactics, and especially the beauty that can be part of the game at it's best. I've thought of trying to be a more neutral observer, so that I can just enjoy watching matches whenever they are on without the stress of supporting Spurs. I doubt I can actually do that though, think I'll always support Spurs whether I want to or not lol.

But to be fair avb has himself said that top four is the aim this season and has to be minimum requirement for me personally and anything less will be considered what.
If avb doesn't get results he will be sacked thats the way of the world we live in and rightly so but he is doing himself no favours with his style of play which causes us to pass the ball about but no end product.
If he doesn't find a solution very soon how can levy justify sticking with him as fans, players, agents plus sponsors will be on his back it's avbs shit for him to sort out.
