Fucksticks- the quack business ain't what it used to be

All due respect, but I was never a follower of the Freud theory. He stated "One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful" but thinking of Spurs in the 90's still disturbs me. There wasn't much that was beautiful about it.

Surely the whole Isco thing is more along the same lines as the Rafa VdV thing? A pipe dream, but not totally out of reach.

It would be amazing, but it does seem highly unlikely. Shame.

So was Klinsmann iirc.

I was thinking more along the lines of stature and us being able to capture his signature, anyway.

Looking at our team last night, where would people see Isco fitting in?

I'm not for a moment saying he's not quality, and also am not saying that we will play the same way as last night in every game, but I'm still not quite sure where I see him fitting in, particularly with Lamela hopefully coming back soon.

Personally, if he's available, then I'd potentially buy first and ask those complicated questions later, because having a selection of quality attacking players is never a bad thing, but on this season's form (well last season for Lamela) would he get ahead of Eriksen/Alli/Lamela in what we consider to be our starting XI?

I suspect he's at least as good as each of those players, but would be big call dropping any of them.

When you buy in the January window, you always have the option of telling the new player that he has half a season of games here and there to get himself up to speed and adjusted, but he'll be first choice next season, after a clear out. If Isco is as good as people say, then he should be able to show that, even if he's not a first choice starter in every game. If he does that, then I'd be up for selling Eriksen in the summer.

For the first time in a long time, I think we have a legitimate selection problem. Wanyama has earned his spot for now, as has Dembele. So in the formation last night you're looking at attacking options of Dele, Eriksen, and Kane. In our normal formation It's Dele, Son, Eriksen, Kane. Son is the only movable piece there, with Lamela and Sissoko both making a case for that spot already. Isco comes in as competition for whom? Eriksen? Dele?

The only time I see Isco being a great addition is in a formation that sees Eriksen, Dele, and Isco behind Kane when a team like West Brom parks the bus.

it is tough - the 3-5-2 system really gives that solidity and Dier is looking made for that (as he looked made for DM starting last season - what a player) and Wanyama is playing really well. Rotation doesn't really work with a guy like Isco so this transfer doesn't happen.

Take the team from yesterday and consider that: Lamela, Son and an improving Sissoko can all contribute at the attacking end. The only question mark is cover for Kane and Jannsen deserves time IMHO

Yep this is the issue.

I wouldn't be against us having a selection of top quality attacking players, just as City and Chelsea accumulate players in that position.

But the assumption seems to be that Isco would become an automatic starter, and I just don't see who permanently drops out to accommodate that.

It's all a moo point anyway as he won't be signing, but just interested in where the Isco fans (of whom I am one) think he'd fit in for us.

Jesus!!!

You'd make space by getting rid of a fringe player thus strengthening our overall squad, not selling one of our first choice players.
