If we sell, the David Luiz deal should be the the reference point when setting the asking price.
Have no problem with selling players to Barcelona and Real Madrid, the fact that our players regulary move to these giants will have a great impact on the kind of players we're able to attract.

Obviously would prefer to keep him, but if Barcelona want him then that's just the way the world of football works

problem is he only has 2 years left.

Two years left on his contract, with a club option for another two years.
So when it comes down to it, Vertonghen is on a four years contract with us.
We're in a good position with him, those who don't rate Levy's work should take note.

We sold Modric and Bale to Madrid.

Not sure that constitutes "selling to Barcelona and Madrid regularly" lol.

Not when you see how many gooners have gone to Barcelona.

I'd want £30m plus before even thinking about it.

If Luiz is worth £50m whatever and Mangela £32m the Verts is easily £30m+.

Transfer news: Tottenham will not entertain offers for Belgium's Jan Vertonghen

Tottenham will staunchly resist any offers for defender Jan Vertonghen this summer, Sky Sports understands.

The 27-year-old centre-half has four years left on his current contract and Spurs have no intention of selling the Belgium international.

Vertonghen's future at White Hart Lane has been questioned following recent comments made by his agent, Mustapha Nakhli, in which he claimed a host of European clubs were interested in the player.

Nakhli also fuelled speculation by refusing to confirm or deny whether Barcelona, who are searching for a central defender following the retirement of Carles Puyol, are one of those interested clubs.

But Sky sources understand Spurs have not received any contact from the Catalan giants about Vertonghen, nor any other club for that matter, and are unconcerned by Nakhli's comments.

Vertonghen is believed to be a fundamental part of new head coach Mauricio Pochettino's plans for the forthcoming season and, as recently as May, the player insisted he would not be seeking a move away from the north London club this summer.

Lloris Vertonghen Eriksen and imho Sandro should be forming our nucleus. Just need a Modric type in there too and its an impressive core.
You have forgotten another important ingredient - a forward who can score....

Deals for Barca's 2 main CB targets - Marquinhos and Mathieu - dragging on; PSG don't want to sell Marquinhos while Valencia wants euros 20m for Mathieu...
They really lacks speed in CD and strength in the air; Jan got neither, so strange they are after him.

Getting a bit tired of hearing this TBH, Jan is more than decent in the air. I didnt hear anyone saying he was poor in the air the season he was the best CB in the country. He just had a bad season last time, that is all.

I did not say he is/was a bad CB; and I want to keep him - but he certainly isn't know for his areal combat skills.

I didnt say you did. I just disagree that Jan is lacking in that attribute as much as you're making out. He was pretty much dominant in the air in the 12/13 season. I dont know why but for some reason he seemed to lack the effort last season, and this "he's crap in the air" label seems to have been attached, and I dont believe it has any credence.
