I said record in English football, just like every other player i listed. You can't compare JJ just at Spurs because the other players haven't played for Spurs so to get a fair comparison you have to include all clubs.

I know it's difficult to grasp, but if you use something called a calculator you might be able to manage it.

Goals in the English League... and before you ask im not gonna bother listing the usual suspects like Fellaini, Ireland, Cahill, Arteta etc

Why, because with the exception of Fellaini, they all fall into the category of "midfielders from teams outside the top 4, who are better than Jenas"?

the list of players that you compared Jenas to wasn't exactly a dazzling, who's who, of the best midfielders in the premiership.

Yeah in your dreams you have mate.

As I said JJ along with Carrick have been our best CM players for 17 years unless you'd like to argue??

That doesn't mean to say he's good. He may have been one of our best, but I would probably say that Davids was better in his first season. He deteriorated into one of the worst we've seen but for the length of time he was at the club, he showed a micrcosmic snapshot of the kind of consistency that Jenas has had. And that was at the tail end of his career.

I was trying to prove a point that just because he scores the odd goal, it doesn't make him a great player.

I said earlier that goals to game ratio for a midfielder is nothing special. It helps but isn't essential and named a load of players worse than JJ with a better goalscoring record to prove that goals are irrelavent.

I'm glad i proved a point.

my bad, I thought you were on the opposite side of the fence. I agree with you then. I replied to a post earlier that was trying to use his goals to games ratio to show how good he was, and must've confused it with yours.

Apoogies.

EDIT: Think it must've been SYL I was confusing you with.

You, my friend are living in cloud cuckoo land. Have you seen our league record in the last 20 years?

If you hadn't realised we sadly havn't been at the top of English football for a long long time and JJ is a very good player for our current standing in the game infact due in no small part to him we've had a huge uplift in our league positions recently!

Hello, we're not playing CL every season, infact we have never played in it

Wake up and smell the coffee JJ is better than probably 50 odd midfield players we've seen at Spurs since the Prem started (maybe somene can be bothered to list all the jokers to wear the shirt) but I cant.

Could you also let me know those guys you've played with that are better than JJ, I'd love to know how they slipped through the premiership scouting net!!

Completely off the top of my head, I can't be arsed to think about it in detail

Central midfielders we've had in the premiership era who have been worse than Jenas (for us, as some of these players were great elsewhere):

Howells, Dozzell, Berti, Freund, Sherwood, Zokora, Boateng, Tainio, Ghaly, Brown, Murphy, Redknapp, Davis, Poyet, Clemence, Sedgely, O'Hara

Central midfielders we've had in the premiership era who have been as good as Jenas (once again, only going on their performances for us):

Mendes, Davids, Nielsen, Huddlestone

Central midfielders we've had in the premiership era who have been better than Jenas (you know this bit):

Palacios, Carrick, Popescu

Central midfielders we've had in the premiership era who could have been as good as or better than Jenas if given more of a chance:

Caskey, Hill, Saib, Dumitrescu, Blondel

all of this being opinion of course. I know I'll get stick for saying Hudd is as good as Jenas, but last seasons stats (and I'm no great lover of stats) show that we win more with him in the side than without him in the side.

I have stayed out of this debate until now, partly because I've been away un the States for a couple of weeks, but I get fed up with people continually saying JJ is not good enough for a Spurs shirt. What have they been watching for the last decade or so? Carrick and JJ have been the best midfielders we have had in this time. When he was here Carrick used to get stick from some on here, when he went it was clear how much we missed him. It will be the same when JJ goes, we will miss his contribution just as much.

I voted go. My reasons:

1. In a pivotal position he simply does not bring enough to the party in terms of goals or assists.
2. When called upon to defend he gives away free kicks in dangerous areas with reckless and stupid tackles.
3. His play is very negative for a AM with far too many side and back passes.
4. He is very easily brushed off the ball.
5. He "goes missing" for long periods during a game.

He has always had the potential to be something special as he has all the necessary equipment but other than flashes of greatness (e.g. his goal against the Scum) he has never delivered and surely, given the time he has been with the club, if it has not happened yet it never will. He is not a bad player, but not good enough to command the first choice AM slot. If we are to move onwards and upwards he needs to be upgraded in my view. I'm not a hater but certainly not a fan.

sorry mate but imo you are wrong and resorting to insults? grow up!

If you look at our record over the past 20 years you ll see that our best period (2 5th placed finishes and 2 cup finals in 4 years) have all had JJ playing centre midfield. You can argue it all you like but thats the best we have done for a long while and JJ has been a part of that.

Davids mainly played left side of midfield that year......

The first season we finished 5th (just missed 4th) JJ played 30 league games
The second season we finished 5th JJ played 25 league games

first of all where was the insult ??? i was having a laugh , get a sense of humour and chill out.
2nd of all its my opinion and i have seen him week in week out since he signed and he simply aint good enough
imagine how much higher we would of been those 2 seasons if we had a CM that could dominate games , pass forward and chip in with 10 goals a season
open your eyes , you lot think small time ,we need to upgrade on him now
i remember spurs in the 80s and jj would not of got anywhere near the first team as he has less bite than a oap with false teeth

Matter of opinion I guess. Nielsen was certainly a batter tackler than Jenas and much more of a leader, and he passed the ball better in my opinion too. I also remember him as being a decent goal thread as well.

As for Huddlestone, like I said, last season we won more with him than without him.

you are entitled to your opinion just like others - but there was no need to come out with the summer holidays quip which was clearly an attempt to belittle the poster!

As i have said before, yes there are better players than JJ out there but the simple fact is that in our most successful period in the last 20 years - JJ has been a regular starter in CM (a key position). 2 5th placed finishes and 2 cup finals with him in the middle suggests to me he isnt as bad as some may think

Nielsen? as good as JJ? Please!

Could you seriously see Nielsen (if English) getting 20 odd caps?
