As already been explained by the ITKs a hundred times, Conte and Paratici do not want to sign players that are not quite what they want for the sake of it. The ones they want probably will be available in a window two, then (as you should already observe), it would be hard to get rid of these stop gaps.

If there is inky one CB in world football that conte and paratici like then God help us. Amazed if they genuinely feel there isn't a CB out there that could help us more than say Tanganga.

A year is a long time in football. Other CBs will emerge.
Like look at the Bella-Kotchop player at Southampton, he's starting to emerge

Gvardiol isn't the only CB in the world. Also Defending is as much about the system as it is just the player. Look we haven't conceded a goal with Sanchez in the team for over 9 hours

If we are putting all our hopes in the Bastoni basket then God help us. If he has an amazing season why do people think he'd come to us. As he will be no.1 premium CB thays available next summer. Liverpool will be looking City will be looking United will defo be looking. As will Madrid and probably Barca. If we have an option and he proves to be great and we try for bastoni and he refuses at least we can sign him. We've given ourselves no outs. I have no issues with a stop gap but protect yourselves and if we are getting him purely as a stop gap/extra body then surely we shouldn't get praising this window. We had 190m to spend before whatever our initial budget was. We've spent just over half. Although I'm sure some bright spark will claim the romero expenditure as this window even though it would have already been budgeted for as it was an obligation. We've been outspent by west ham and spent 2m more than wolves did they have CL cash injection highest matchday revenue in world football, nfl boxing guns n Roses gaga and a 150m cash injection from the owners. If so I must have missed all that. West ham don't even own their stadium

I couldn't give a flying fuck if we are outspent by other teams as long as we get the players in that Conte wants. If he wants a player that costs £25m instead of a player costing £50m then let's get the £25m one. Look at Utd as an example. They throw millions at their squad every season and they are fucking dreadful. All I care about is that we do our best to back Conte. We have clearly done that this window so I'm happy with that.

Of course we'd get up in arms about Chelsea signing another CB... the same night they lose to Southampton and are still without a CF for the season

It's not about the player, I think it's just the realisation that under Levy/ENIC we will never ever properly go for it. We waited all these years for the stadium, apparently that was going to change the game for us, but let's be honest it's never the game changer we thought it would be. Our spending is still as conservative as it always has been under Levy.

We all know in the lead up to this window, apparently it was going to be the window of all windows. Yet we will have been outspent by Chelsea, United, Forest, West Ham for example. Arsenal have spent far more than us in recent years.

60 mill on Richie, 35 on Bissouma, those are our big signings. It's a piss in the ocean compared to windows Chelsea routinely do.

Add Newcastle to the equation in the near future it will only get tougher for us. City won't drop off, and Liverpool are up there. Arsenal have spent more than us over the past few years.

I could accept it if we were an amazing side who wins things, but we aren't. We have one league cup in 20 years.
We spent £150m this season and secured an elite CB, signed a world class WB, bought premier league ready competition up front, bought the best MF we played against last season and bagged a couple of prospects yet you still moan and criticise Levy and the club.

We signed Romero last season, otherwise last summer we spent next to nothing. I bet you were sitting there last summer saying that we signed Romero for big money. You can't spread Romero out over two windows mate lol.

Deep down you know Levy and ENIC have to go in order for us to really compete

We are competing though? Top 4 last season and aiming for at least that this season. Considering we aren't owned by a country like several of our competitors I'd say we are doing just fine.

No, we signed Romero on loan last season and just made it official. Find a post where I’ve spread the signing of Romero over two windows. Let’s face it, it doesn’t matter who we sign, how much we improve the squad, if we ever win anything - you’ll always find something to criticise.

Is the Elite CB you are referring to Romero? The one we signed last summer with an obligation. So we had to purchase him. Yes we signed a decent WB and decent CM. Great business that cost us 25m. Prospects are great. How did Gil, Clarke and Rodon work out for us. Ndombele was another great young talent. Sess took 2 years to make any sort of impact another great youth prospect. Before the season started the majority of the vocal fanbase was screaming for top draw CB to replace Davies and CB competition for Dier/Romero. A ready to go RWB and some creativity. None of those have been acquired.

We have a squad capable of getting top 4. I just hoped for more considering the noises at the start of the summer with budgets CL money and the injection. Our rivals all look a little out of sorts city won't keep getting out of jail. Liverpool bit up and down. Just thought we might have gone big in hope of catching them slacking as they rarely have 2 season dips

But who cares what the outlay is? Are you saying if we signed the same exact players but they all cost more money you'd be happier because we'd have outspent West Ham and Forest? Surely signing Bissouma for £30M is better than signing Morgan Gibbs-White for £42M?

I like Anderson at Palace lol
Me too. Everytime I see him play, he's very assured and calm, aggressive and tall, and can play some really nice passes. He's an aerial threat at corners and also is a shithouse too lol. He's someone I can see being good cover and competition for Dier.

Cheers dude, thats exactly my opinion as well but would be never able to put it in words like that.

I just want to add that 5 years ago I would meltdown as well but I just don't anymore. I've accepted things they are. Have more important things in my live, and I just dont get emotional about those staff anymore. But I still get emotional when I watch us play. I jumo when we score a goal and I watch every game. I'm really glad that we are building club in our own way which looks like a normal way to grow. No Saudi owners, no Russian oligarchs, no Glazers. It is unique. We dont win as much as them but we were in enough finals and semi finals in recent years to put something to cabinet. Dont blame everyrhing on money.

As long as we do all we can I'm fine to be in the second row. We have one of the best manager in the world, best stadium. Chelsea buying some player most of us havent heard about 2 months ago wont change that. I'm sure we will win something soon and it will be fucking awesome. Maybe chelsea will win more by that timw but I dont care, as I said I'm too old probalby for that crazy shit.

So yeah, fuck chelsea and COYS!
My favourite post. COYS!

Sorry dude but you're just spinning it. We either signed Romero last window or this one, if he was this window's signing, then last summer was a complete shocker of a window with hardly anything spent. I could say the same about you, anything we do is just the greatest thing ever and there can be no wrong.

End of the day I have repeatedly said we have done good business this window, but we haven't shown the ambition I thought we would have, to really push the boat out. To only sign Lenglet on loan when our defence needed strengthening at CB isn't enough.

Now, when our rivals are spending eye watering amounts on talented players, we are deciding between Dan James and Traore. I thought this window would be different and we wouldn't be back to shopping at Lidl, but here we are. The James / Traore stuff is very much the usual Spurs window we've come to expect, it really hasn't been that different. We've just done business earlier. We've always generally made one biggish 50/60 mill signing in a summer window, and then a few cheap ones. Same as this summer. I thought we'd see a few 60 mill transfers on bastoni, Zaniolo's and the likes, but it just hasn't happened.
