I'd definitely take him. I think Bentley will leave and Lennon always misses a fair few games. I don't think we'll break our wage structure, so if he signs it will be a good deal for us. I saw him come on to play on the right a few weeks back and thought he was brilliant. He doesn't look to have lost his pace, which is the key thing when players come back from long injuries. I think he's just struggled to get upto full match fitness, as he came back without a pre season after a long lay off. But if his basic pace is still there (though he's never been really fast), it means he probably just needs a full pre season to get back Prem fitness levels. He could do the jobs Gud and Bentley do for us now. With the extra games we'll have, I don't think he'll be short of oppotunities to impress.

I thought about this and what happens when Lennon and Cole are injured at the same time......which is a guarantee. The plus side to Cole is that he is a free, but so is Altintop. And Altintop can play both left and right, as well as CM and RB. He's played at the highest level (and I personally believe he will win a Champions League). I won't argue that Cole isn't more technically gifted, but at 100K he goddamn better be. So you can get a more reliable (although Altintop did have a long injury spell after the Euros) guy with pace and lung capacity at half the price.

The savings can then be applied to expenditure on a couple of areas where we need to better ourselves and to do so will require a lot of money. We need a better front line, and can now compete for players we could not have previously. But in order to tempt them, we need to pay over the odds. Also I still want Sissoko from Toulouse, but that's a personal thing

I meant that I'd like to have him on the team. I would think that had he shagged my wife, I would be more Wayne Bridge about it and want nothing to do with him and play a victimized millionaire for the cameras

I got caught up in the Home Grown discussion and did a little research. Chelsea have 8 players if they include both of their young keepers. That will play a role in this as they can't afford to lose Cole without someone to replace him.

And its an argument against my Altintop idea as carrying a versatile non-HG isn't probably the best idea.

Hasn't anyone told you not to read The Sun?

Ancelotti talks about his desire to keep Cole, it's The Sun that says he is blocking a move to Spurs. Silly Sun and Sun readers.

lol, fair play

I think we're thinking about the wrong Cole

Now we're in the Champions league, do you think we could get Cheryl Cole as our teams bukkake target rather than Danielle Llloyd? It's not like she's got that annoying smarmy shithead on her arm anymore. Plus it'd mean it'd be an extra reason for top players to join us, sign her up Arry!!

Some harsh comments regarding Cole, he is still an excellent player just not sharp. He needs a good pre-season and a manager who believes in him and he will be back up there as one of England's most important players in my opinion. He is great technical ability, good awareness and can score from midfield. He's better on the right than Kranjcar, better on the left than Kranjcar too for that matter (sorry it is true and I like Kranjcar and I'm more than happy not to change anything)

However, if he is truely desperate to join us and Harry then he is going to have to seriously reduce his wage demands. He has to decide whether he wants to join us or he wants the money. If he wants the £100K a week he can go to City, if he wants to move to us then he has to accept £50k (or less) a week.

This move wouldn't surprise me at all.

If you look at what Harry does and what he's done here, this would fit perfectly into his philosophy, in my mind.

Harry is currently turning our squad from a team of underachievers into CL qualifiers, a lot of whom are only pretty young, have a lot of potential, but still have a lot to learn.

When Harry was at West Ham, he had a handful of young players who turned out to be England internationals and consistent CL calibre players.

Those players he had at West Ham, such as Joe Cole (and even Michael Carrick seeing as we're on the subject), know Harry well, have been there, done it and will have a lot of experience to pass on, so where better to do it than here, with Redknapp again?

Even looking at the coaches around the place, Sherwood and Ferdinand, someone like Cole, with maybe his last big move, would be a perfect fit for Harry with his style of having familiar and trusted 'old boys' around him. He'd also be the perfect middle ground between player and coach to help our youngsters up their game. Players like Bostock would learn so much from him. A bit of Joe Cole soccer school can't hurt anyone in our squad I wouldn't have thought! All that and he also gives us a very, very good option in our squad.

He might be prone to injury lately, but make no bones about it, he is still probably, THE most gifted English player when running with the ball. He can score, he can score 'Tottenham goals' and he can win games on his own on his day. Being able to call on a squad of attacking players including Bale, Modric, Lennon, Cole, Bentley and Krancjar is really pretty impressive and Cole would not take anything away.

We also know we'd get a player who knows what he's coming to. Sandro might be a stunning player, but does he really know what Spurs are all about? In the same way Eidur did? He was 'past it' to a lot of people before he arrived, but he's turned out to be a valuable asset. He's also said we're a great club to be at and how much he's loving it here. If Cole could do as well for us for a couple of seasons as EG has done for us so far, I'd be well happy to take him on.

I understand some of the concerns in signing him, but surely if we could ever marry a player to return to form with a manager that could help him, Cole and Redknapp wouldn't be a bad shout, would it?

If he doesn't sign, I reserve the right to change my opinion of him in the future.

Would be a completely unnecessary signing - we already have Lennon, Modric, Bale, Krancjar and Bentley to cover the positions he would play in, plus Townsend and Rose coming through the youth ranks.

But he's a better player than 4 of them.

Delusional.... so, essentially he doesn't really want to come to us, he just wants the money. Well bugger off to which ever club is happy to accept that kind of ego.

Wasn't that keen on him anyway...

Couldn't see him coming in as a starter, but would definately add some strength and experience to our squad.

I agree. I think he'd be a great buy. Bale, Modric etc are all good players but still learning and turning their potential into product. Cole is the finished article, Harry knows him very well and he's got a wealth of experience. If Cole is available, I'd be more shocked if this didn't happen. He's just like the signings Harry has already made: a proven player with premiership experience to fit right in. Signing him would also be a signal. We haveNt signed many proven players if his quality in recent years.

I think we may see some positive movement on this after
the FA cup final. I'm pretty sure he can sign a pre contract
agreement before the TW actually opens.

IMO this will happen, 99% sure.

Every time I've watched Chelsea and Cole has been fit and playing, he's been their best player by a country mile. And that's alongside Lampard, Essien, Ballack and Deco. I love the guy. How could anyone seriously not want him? He would bring so much to our midfield it's surely a no-brainer..........
