Harry is buttering him up in the Sun this morning. Have no doubt we'll be in for him, whether he'd accept what we can pay him is a different matter. Would love to sign him - top player who can cover three or four positions. If we don't get him would be very happy with pienaar for same reasons.

If we can get one of those two, a top number 9 and a decent back up keeper (be very happy with james if he's happy to be No. 2) I would be quite happy to leave it at that.

I think it would be a good signing, regardless of how he fits into our squad he is a quality player and would be an improvement on pretty much everyone in our ranks.

However, while I am sure his links to Harry count for something, I just don't see a player who is demanding more money than Chelsea are prepared to offer siging a contract at a club with our wage structure.

We also have more pressing issues to concern ourselves with, mostly being a top draw striker to lead us into the Champions League so not sure we should break our wage structure heavily and risk disrupting the harmony of the squad over a player who plays in postions we are already pretty well covered.

If Cole fits into our revised wage structure (assuming our budget has increased somewhat) and his arrival would not adversly effect team spirit etc (which it shouldn't really) I would suggest signing him would be something of a master class by Harry, he is certainly a top class player and the type we need if we are going to be competitive against Europes big guns....but it's a signing I am doubtful will happen.

I think it's easy to say you don't want him now but if he did sign I'm sure once people saw him playing in a Spurs shirt they'd be all for it.

Absolutely.

They would also be gutted and see it as a good oppurtunity missed, when he is playing out of his skin for another team.

We don't know what wages he's asking for. We've seen a few numbers in the media but they pluck things out of the air. Cole could well want to leave Chelsea to get first team football, or he just may want a change. Levy can sort out the wages. If Cole won't accept what we think is reasonable then we won't sign him. I hope we get him though, he's probably better than any of our midfielders. As for changing our formation to fit him in, if players of Coles quality become available I think you sign them first then worry about where to play them. We'll have plenty of games next year so we don't necessarily need to play every midfielder in every game.

I never trust the media when it comes to wages. Maybe he'll get a similar wage to Woodgate, and get a decent signing on fee. Afterall, he is a free transfer.

We've been linked with 3 of Harry's former players in Cole, Diarra and Carrick this morning. I wouldn't be surprised if Harry is interested in all 3.

We need a strong squad for next season. Yes we finished in the top 4 this season, but we didn't have the extra European games.

Next season we need player who are experienced in the Champions League. Joe Cole is on eof those players. I would be happy if we get him. Wages aren't my concern, i'll leave that down to the Chairman.

I just want as many top quality players as possible. I rate Cole very highly, and believe him to be good enough to strengthen the squad.

If we signed Cole and Diarra I'd be extatic. Proven quality players who we know can perform in the premiership. Not all would agree but I think they're both better than every one of our current midfielders. Just think of us selling Bentley and Jenas and bringing in these two, what an upgrade in the quality of the squad. If we were to also bring in a top forward it would be the best window ever. If Levy can manage the wage situation, then the fact we'll probably sell the likes of Keane, Pavlyuchenko, Hutton, O'Hara, Jenas, Dos Santos, Taarabt means we'll probably break even in terms of fees. That's probably a positive for Levy's strategy of buying players who will retain most of their value.

We had shades of this with Gudjohnsen. Comments like he's past his best or he hasn't played well for 2 years etc etc

Now look at him.

Signing Cole wouldn't be any different. Proven quality playing for a manager with a proven track record for getting that quality out of a player and even improving on it. Within a few months of signing him this forum will be full of posts saying what a brilliant player he is. Yes, i'm going ON THE LINE!

We sign him, he'll be a raging success.

2/1 to join Spurs and 7/1 to join Pool.

I starting to believe this. Surprised with the lack of tabloid stories on this though. Expected them to run with it everyday until it happens or not.

Im expecting a few good signings this summer. Levy will go for it.

I love watching the guy for England. Even when he plays against us for Chelsea, I can't help but admire his sheer sheer class.

My top wish for the summer. Even ahead of Aguero. And that's saying something for me.

If there is a genuine chane to sign him then we must... Such a class act, and to all those who are saying we don't need him because we have Modric and Kranjcar this is a squad game and if all goes to plan in the qualifiers we will have a hell of alot of games next year...

This would be a great signing. He hasn't had his best season, but he's been coming back from injury. Give him game time and you will see his quality. The options he would give us on the pitch are amazing. You can just imagine him switching positions with Bale, Lennon or Modric and confusing the life out of the opposition.

The love in certainly means we'd be keen from our side. Unless we read an article from Joe praisning Spurs i'm not sure it really indicates anything.

If we're gonna deal with facts, the facts so far are;

  1. Rednapp likes him.
  2. we don't know what Joe thinks about us
  3. Joe coles current salary is higher than our highest
I'm sat in traffic, engine running but gears in neutral on this one. Not denying it's possible just not seen enough facts to suggests it's probable.

Get him in.

We're going to need his experiencefor the CL and he has real class. If we can get him for a decent deal it's a no brainer.

Simple.

Would the wages be a factor when you take into account the signing on fee he might get as a free transfer? Does anyone know how large a signing on fee for someone like him would be? We also have to think about why he would leave Chelsea? If he wants to win medals then he's not doing too badly at Chelsea. If he wants money he could go to City. So is there another reason that he might come to us? Is it the Harry factor, has he been offered the chance to play in his favourite position, or does he just like wearing white?

isn't his family Spurs supporters? Or at least half his family? I think it was his uncle the got in on our CC Final winning team pic no?

Anyhoo, i'd love Joe at our club, great footballer, mature young guy, and professional. I think he'd fit in extremely well with Modric, Lennon, Bale, THudd, Defoe etc etc etc.

He also has a lot of time for Harry, and vice versa, CL football, exciting team, exciting times - I think there's a lot that would make Joe want to come here.

I think he will sign for us possibly sooner rather than later and Modric will be sold for 30 plus million preferably to a European team or Chelsea or United.

I only have a small number of close connections with a few Premiership teams and United is one of them. All I've been told is that Ferguson is a huge admirer of the player, which we all know, but he can only do business by offering some players that includes the likes of Anderson.
