He's decent isn't he. Good movement tracking along the back 4, alert, aware, good anticipation and he's built like a tank.

Very good defensive instincts.

Any YouTube links you could post? I've not been able to find much.

Really ? I watched him in the game against Frankfurt where he was sent off and he looked pretty poor. If he played like that at Spurs he'd have SC clamouring for Chriches to take his place.

Fucking hell. Me as well then. I want to see what all the fuss is about. If it's not a Wimmer/Koln dressing room gang bang then I'll be severely disappointed.

I'll have a piece of that as well please.

The "youtube" link, not the gang bang!

Hopefully the lads good but we've signed about 15 subs in the last couple of years, our defence is dogshit, do we really need another sub defender (or any position other than striker )?

We have one LCB and he's likely to leave the club in the next year or two. We shouldn't sign squad players needlessly but having a squad who the manager trusts is extremely important. At the moment we have only three CB's in Poch's plans and Verts is the only one who is really comfortable on the left. That's not good enough.

Additionally, when we buy a 22 year old talent to play behind one of our best players, it isn't buying a "sub defender". It's buying young talent that can be brought through over a couple of years because we can't compete for players once they're already world class. That is a terribly short-sighted view to take.

Did you take the same view with the stambouli transfer out of curiosity? Believe me I'm not thinking short term far from it, go back through my posts, countless times I've said I only want first team players cos I believe our only future is bringing through youth and not blocking them with average players.

I'd rather sign 1 first team player this summer than 4-5 who we'll be looking to move on in a year or 2

The view that we needed to sign a DM? Absolutely. That Stambouli was our best option? I'd never heard of him frankly. Dier would be a better comparison, I was thrilled when we signed him and he's done quite well for himself as a 21 year old in his first year in the Prem. I think he has a chance be a star for us for years.

I think it's pretty clear that our model is now based on bringing youth through when possible, and adding talented young players from all over when we are unbalanced or think they have a better chance of coming good than our other options. Wimmer is far more proven than any of our youth CBs, and he's very highly rated with a decent chance at becoming a long term fixture in our side. Signing first team players is great but it doesn't solve the fact that we only have one left-sided center back, and we haven't a chance to sign a CB who would walk into the team over Verts, and no youth clearly ready to step in behind him.
