King and knee braces

i think i'm right in saying he never seems to wear a knee brace, and if so why not, they would protect the knees during a game and stop extra damage being done to the knee due to ligaments and muscles compensating for the damage already there, plus it would resist against twisting his knee when jumping for headers.

Bone on bone

Nothing to do with ligaments and jumping for headers

I've got meniscus and ligament damage, I wear a brace for physical exercise (football, tennis). I wear it only because it helps me reduce the chance of further damage to the ligament (LCL), and because it gives the knee more lateral stability. But I can assure you that a brace doesn't help you reduce the friction between the bones when you don't have a meniscus cartilage or when you have it damaged.

I think the main problem King may have with his cartilage situation is the inability to stretch the thigh muscles properly. With a damaged cartilage (or nonexistent in his case), after considerable physical exercise your knee swells and makes it hard to bend it, as you would do when you want to stretch your quadriceps.

i know it's bone on bone, but that means the joint is loose, due to lack of cartlidge, meaning other parts of the knee come under more strain. a knee brace would isolate that, and then the physios would just have to work on the original problem, without more injuries to the surrounding area

I've always wondered, and this is going to sound like a stupid question, but as I know nothing about cartilages I'll ask it anyway. Why can't they just put some dead guys cartilage in there?

There are procedures now to put in an artificial meniscus but I dont think this would assist an athlete, maybe something for when he retires so he isnt a cripple by the age of 40.

No m8 not a stupid question at all. I just don't think it would cope with the hammering week in week out. I have though about fluid though, not sure how they would contain it in that area but a thick sludgy fluid to form cushion between the bone

I got to lay off the sci-fi channel

Why does my brain keep nagging at me that, some time back, there was a post describing a procedure that was reckoned could be the answer to all Ledleys problems, yet it's not permitted for footballers or something and, if he did have the procedure, it could mean he won't be allowed to play anymore?

Something about extracting the something from the area, doing something to it, then injecting it straight back into the joint? There was some mention of an American Stupidball player having it done, from what i recall...

I dunno - anyone? Does this ring any bells at all?

I believe it is Plasma Platelet Surgery, I remember it being mentioned before.

Jesus, it is so easy, why didn't our highly paid physiotherapist think of that - they could have just nipped down to boots and picked one up.

Ultimately, the only way King is ever going to regain fitness is to take 6months to a year out the game and undergo experimental stem-cell treatment.

Injection of stem cells into an arthritic joint has been proven to re-grow cartilage - only problem being it needs rest while the cartilage re-grows

Would we be willing to lose King for a full year if it mean he would return minus the dodgy knees? (this is purely hypothetical as the treatment hasn't yet been approved for human trials - though its been proven to re-grow the exactl cartilage King is missing in sheep)

If I remember rightly, someone at Spurs was asked this question recently, his reply was...

"Because its not 1986 on the Hackney Marshes."

it's just so typical of our cursed club's luck....we find two gems over the past 35 years (king and dixon). While one's permanently crocked, the other retired before making a single first league appearance. It's as if Satan himself was a yid fan!

Don't fork with you? Funk? I can't imagine it'd be fuck, what would be the point in being a really angry person, threatening randoms on t'interwebb? That's just a ridiculous concept, who on earth would do that?

I wasn't forking with you anyway, i mean it - i'm a titties man

Besides, i'm still a bit confused what your problem is with me, as far as i can tell, this started with you having a bitch about me preferring to win something rather than come 4th.

As i said, meanwhile, back at the batcave, I don't doubt that if Ledley couldn't play a satisfactory number of games in a season then the club would have to politely explain the situation and he would likely have to accept that his playing days are over. In the meantime, any avenue that can be explored to increase the number of games we can field our cap'n should be.

I'm still a bit confused as to what the reason was this platelet shenanigans can't be used though. I've had a gander and can't find anything specific, so maybe this was a stab in the dark and the treatment wouldn't help him at all. Who knows?
