I think it's a decision that someone will have to make for next season.

IMO Mourinho will pick Gallas. Levy will prefer King (new contract so on reduced wages, more important for club PR). Redknapp I'm not sure if he'd make a head or heart decision.

King qualifying as a homegrown and home-trained player will mean he's a virtual lock for Europe next year.

So in your scenario, not only have we signed Vertonghen and Levy's only allowed one of Gallas and King to stay, but we've also managed to secure Mourinho as our manager.

For what it's worth, I don't think either of them will be playing for us next year. Gallas has already said he wants to play abroad (America or UAE I think) and I reckon King will become a member of the coaching team. If I had to choose one, its tough cos Gallas' injuries are taking longer and longer to recover from, but i think King's injuries are finally catching up with his form. So... erm, dunno.

So we're getting both Vertonghen and Mourinho next season?

It's a none question.
We can keep one player - one is in contract, one is out.
If both want to stay, we have to have Gallas.
Unless Gallas wants to leave and we want rid, we can't offer King a new contract.

King's clearly fucked, he's been molly coddled for the last 4 years, give him a coaching job by all means, but we should not be depending on him as a player any more, it's ridiculous.

I certainly think we could better assign his wage budget.

Much as it pains me to say it, I think we really saw the stationary point or redefinition of limits of Ledley King's playing career against Arsenal.

A few years ago, able to track down Robben and cleanly tackle him from behind preventing an easy goal... Now a shadow of himself - and I don't like saying it, we all know at his peak he was an absolutely amazing defender.

Give him a move upstairs, so to speak. Let him play in the Carling Cup only or as a real last resort on the bench - but he can't be first choice from next season.

Irrelevant question in my opinion. So I didn't answer the poll. We can afford to get rid of people like Kranjcar etc before King or Gallas.

Form-wise Gallas is playing better and he doesn't have a nagging injury. If it's down to the financial aspect, I'd give Gallas a one-year extension and King a pay as you play offer take it or leave it offer. I highly doubt he'd refuse it if the pay per play was fee was suitable. In that sense I'd pick Gallas.

We'd be stupid to let either go. Both are leaders in completely different, but still so vital. Gallas has that experience of playing at the top, but Ledley is our talisman.

We've got to be ruthless due to our budget and not sentimental towards millionaire footballers, NB Manchester United.

Even when I was at the Stoke game I thought he was struggling and he didn't have that much to do....

The radio commentary highlighted it a lot and called them 'unforced errors'.

Obviously, I only go by what someone says was happening in this case...

I have a feeling caulker will come back and form a partnership with kaboul, so I am not so sure we will sign a big new cb. Keep both Gallas and king for one more season.

Too many presumptions and shades of grey in this thread, unless DA is now JJ then how can he be so sure of this incomings and outgoings and contractual demands from Levy?

I understand that Caulker is being highly rated (i havent seen loads of him tbh) but is he really going to be shifting King and Gallas out of the squad? I feel Walker establishing himself was different as Charlie and Hutton are not much in the way of competition but Caulker is up against Kaboom and Dawson, as well as Ledders and Gallas, and we have been linked with CB's regularly in the last 12/18 months.

I'd have Mourinho as manager though Dan if you are now moonlighting as an agent/mr fix it/nostrodamus

Gutted to say it but the performance levels Ledley has been reaching have been poor since the Citeh game. He looks slow and what's really odd is that positionally all over the place. Maybe the pressure of playing for a new contract is too much an he has burned himself out.
