:stupid:

What, exactly, is Comolli supposed to do if the Scum refuse to do business with us?

'I'm sure if we offer them £20m they'll think about it, Daniel.' Yeah. Sure.

Back to Duh-Land with you.

Is what official? That the Scum wouldn't do business with us? No, it's common sense. Of which precious little seems to be being used by some people.

Um... can you run that one by me?
They have done business with us in the past, and its not like we are trying to buy Fabregas?
We are not exactly rivals for league position either, at least this season.

> Hills-wood does nae like Levy
> We're locationally rivals
> they stole Sol
> we're always wrangling over ticket allocations
> Levy didn't wanna go to the Arsenal offices to negotiate cos it smells kinda funny
> Levy was worried that Diarra had goontes (like the cootes, but with genital warts)
> they killed our super cool talking Parrot, and replaced it with a shitty cockerel that woke all of the players up at stupid oclock and was nowhere near half as cool (yeh, ok, before Levy's time... but he's now stuck trying to sell merchandise with a fucking Cockerel on it, it looks like the staff uniform from a farm shop ffs)

all good reasons why we shouldn't do business with Arsenal

In the past, you mean players like Jamie O'Hara, as he's the last player that springs to mind that we've bought from the Woolwich and that was when he was about 15/16 years old, so that hardly counts, does it?

Diarra is a very, very promising midfielder and one that has qualities that could improve us significantly, if he fitted in - we've got an ambitious board and Wenger isn't stupid (despite the clown nose). He knows that Diarra is only one man, but he could be a piece of the puzzle to our midfield. Wenger doesn't want to give us ANY opportunity to get a foothold so it only makes sense that if they are to sell one of their more promising youngsters, one who would be getting regular games if they didn't have someone who just cannot be dropped, it isn't going to be to us or Chelsea for the local rivalry, or Man U for the league rivalry, without charging way, way over the odds.

He knows we aren't going to do that, so why a) waste his own time listening to us offer a fair price, or b) give us any help whatsoever in our campaign?

makes perfect sense that they would have us down as an absolute last resort.

If we wanted him we should have got him in the summer. Chelsea clearly didn't want to sell him to Arsenal and waited for the very last minute to let the del happen, when it was clear there were no other options. If we were genuinley interested in him we should have tied a deal up in July. I think we simply preffered KPB (who is biiger and stronger and probably quicker, Comolli like shis players to be). I've only seen Diarra once (though he was excellent V Blackburn), so can't really comment on whether we got the better of the two deals. I really can't see us being prepared to pay over £5 million, for a player that we could possibly have had for £2 million in the summer.

Levy annoyed the hell out of Hill-Wood by inviting Dein to our boardroom drinks party at the home derby. Arsenal have also complained about Comolli using the contacts he made there to sniff out youngsters they're interested in. Add that to the rest of the ill-feeling that's gone on down the years and it seems pretty obvious why they might not look on us favourably. Oddly, if Dein had still been there we might have had more of a chance.

And as RSS says, Diarra might just have been the missing piece of the puzzle in our midfield; they absolutely don't want to strengthen us.

Yes, we have done business with them in the past. We sell them good players, they sell us shite. (O'Hara doesn't really count as he was a schoolboy.) Laurie Brown was possibly the worst CB (or centre-half as it was then) I've seen in 50 years.

Somehow I doubt he would be.

Lets be realistic this apparent missing link has signed for Pompey, if he's this good why Pompey?

He didn't make the grade at the Chavs, he didn't make the grade at the Arse where he was kept out of the side by Flamini. To be fair, Flamini is a decent player and has done a decent job for them but Wenger I feel would certainly like to upgrade that position. Furthermore Wenger has agreed to let Diarra go despite Flamini being out of contract this coming summer and showing no sign thus far of signing a new one. The chances are Flamini is going to walk away yet Wenger is still prepared to let diarra go? Tells me all I need to know.

Also its Pompey, no interest from bigger clubs such as Everton, man' City, Villa and personally I don't believe there was any interst from us either.

Diarra-no thanks

I'd say its more to do with his attitude than his ability that Wenger has let him go. He's already made it very clear that he sees Pompey as a mere stepping-stone to bigger things, and if he comes out with that in his very first interview then, frankly, they're welcome to him.

I mean, there are not many clubs bigger or more successful than the Arse if we're honest about it. He may feel Wenger has gone back on a promise to give him a certain amount of games, but if he's not mature enough at 22 to understand his manager's first obligation is to the team's success and that Flamini, to everyone's surprise, has been one of the star turns and has to get first dibs and that his turn will eventually come, then he's no loss. The Gooners over on Arsenal-Mania are very much of that mind.

Why do people insist on saying things like this when there has never been any evidence that we have been interested in diarra?

It just seems we want to find, prove or fabricate any reason to have a pop at the club.

not having a pop at the club and its a fact that we are missing out on players that should well be able to play for us he is a french midfielder powerful and good on the ball which we badly need

petrov one of the best left sided midfielders in the PL now great at getting down the wing and putting great balls into the box and maybe his best friend is at the club already

im not having a go at you either i just feel that the likes of pompey and city have caught up with us which in the last 2 seasons we were well on the way into breaking into the top 4, i just feel we have to get one or two players in this window period

But Don I just can't agree, I wroye the below part about Diarra on the previous page and I firmly believe we have had no interest in him and to be fair he has played so little during his time in England that very few of us on here will have seen enough of him to hold him in sucg high esteem.

As for Petrov

To me there are good reasons why we didn't sign him......

he was coming off of the back of a potentially career threatening knee injury.
he would only sign a 3 year contract which isn't enough for a player costing nearly £5 million
He's a player guaranteed to walk away after 3 years which means wages and fee combined he would have cost us circa £9.5 million for 3 years or over 60k a week.
We bought a better younger player in Gareth bale who if he hadn't been injured nobody would even talk about Petrov.

Overall I don't think our transfer performance over the last few years has been bad at all, some deals have worked better than others but that will always be the case.

I'm probably 1 of the few people who takes comfort from the fact that we haven't bought anybody so far this window. To me it means we are patient enough to bring in the players we want on the deals that we want.

I think a lot of the problem is that some people are writing and saying stuff that is stirring uo emotions when in reality they know no more than the rest of us.

I still have faith in Levy, ramos and the club.

the future still looks bright.

far enough good point:clap:

we will never know how these would have done at WHL it will be interseting to see how things shape out with diarra at pompey as for petrov we know how he is doing at city and i would have loved to see him at the lane but i can see your side of it to
