But we have 2 of these aswell as BAE & Gunter...

We won't be signing another LB.

maybe we won't but I think we need one -

I agree about Gunter - but does Ramos - why did he ignore him and play O'Hara ther

and i'm not convinced yet by gilberto

incidentally there are plenty of people who think we might/should sign Adriano - so they clearly think we need another LB/LM as I'm led to believe that's what he is

We need a left winger and he can play both. Not a LB that can also play LW he is 50/50 in those positions.

Why do we need a LB?

Left back is potentially the only position in the squad we don't need to add to at all. Just clear out one or two of them.

I suppose we're fine at right back as well, though perhaps only if we managed to keep Chimbonda as backup, which I don't think we will.

Well I thought Adriano was a LB that could play both - I'm sure he was described as a defender - but if he isn't he isn't

then as I say get someone like Bale or Bridge - there's plenty of attacking LBs out htere - who can do the defending bit at least reasonably well

Why do we need a LB - because it seems Gunter isn't the answer, I'm not convinced by Gilberto and Bale has been injured too often for me to count on him - plus many see him as a LM

and no way would I rely on BAE

Thhere you go Kendall the magic of google -

The News of the World report that Juande Ramos is keen on spending £8 million on Sevilla DEFENDER Adriano Correia as cover at left back where Young-Pyo Lee will be leaving and Gareth Bale might not be back from his foot injury and ..

my CAPS :)

oh and here's more from the Telegraph ;-)

Ramos is also looking to sign Brazilian full-back Adriano Correia, who could cost the club £8 million, as a replacement for Lee Young Pyo.

My bold

oh and more from spurs vital

. gk. kameni(espanyol) lb.adriano(seville)rb. glen johnson(pompey)

now maybe they're all wrong in their descriptions - but as you can see I didn't make it up :)

Hi DC_Boy :)

Regardless of the nonsense spouted by the News of the Screws & the Torygraph, Adriano is primarily a LM. He has blinding pace, and can do a job defensively. However, like Gilberto, he doesn't like players running at him.

If we signed Adriano, then I would expect to see him play at LM with either Bale or Gilberto (or even BAE) at LB. Steed would have direct competition from Adriano, and might end up on the right flank (where I know you hate seeing him play).

If we sign Dos Santos, I would be surprized to see us sign Adriano as well, as Giovanni would most likely play as a wide midfielder for us.

Adriano started his career as a CF and was converted to the left wing while at Sevilla. He has since moved back to Left Back this season to accomodate Capel's emergence.

He's not a natural defender but is a big unit who is very difficult to budge and has a rather tasty left foot. Ramos might be tempted by him but probably as cover for the wing rather than defence.

You're right about my views on Steed BTW Yanno (I'm impressed that you remembered :)

The thing is - are Bale or Gilberto good enough at LB?

I'm not convinced by gilberto - Bale's injuries worry me and anyway is he best at LB or LM?

Maybe Adriano would be no better than these two at LB

I'm not advocating we should buy him, but he does sound like the type of left cover we need - though maybe a better defender than him is needed from what you're saying

It all depends on what system we play. Ramos seems to favour his wing backs, and Hutton is in this mould.

So Bale looks like a good option here, as does Gilberto (yes he had a shaky start but he has played well since then).

BAE is not in this mould IMO, he is more a classic LB, i think we are likely to get rid of him and Lee this window. In which case another LWB option would be good, as both Bale and Gilberto can play LW.

Bringing in a proper LW as well (Dos Santos) should have us well covered down that side of the pitch, with both experienced players and talented younger players.

I see Gunter much more as cover for RB, given that he is not naturally left footed (i think).

I think that might need defining better.

Perhaps against the likes of Derby etc... it is no prob, but against the better teams i don't think we can realistically hope to have regular success with any of these 3.

Lee is going, BAE likely not to feature again, so really that only leaves us with Gilberto and Bale.

I sorta see what your saying, and yes no prob was ment as, we dont have a prob in that area. Look most clubs have only 2 LB, look at Man utd, they have 1 yet they manage it, I think 2 perfectly good LBs is enough for me, however maybe we could do with one more LB, but it is far from necesery

Has anyone heard anything of Emanuelson (Ajax?) for the LWB spot? I suppose this player fits the attacking backs ethos that we are imagining Ramos will replicate at spurs this season.

If that is the case then Bale should be fine, though as many have suggested too injury prone (I pray for him to prove us wrong).

Surely we need to give Gilberto some more time?? A brazilian national player for goodness sake. I'm holding out that he will improve.

Hi PT - sorry about continuing this - it's my last word honestly :) - but people will keep asking me about this

so for the last time on this thread - I don't think we currently have a sufficiently good and fit LB hence we need to buy one

yes lots of you disagree with me - I'm in the minority but it's my opinion -

so please if you reply to this - I can't answer ok :) but you won't be changing my mind unless you've got some genuine ITK from the club that says yep it's all ok - Gunter is ready for LB now - or some such reassurance
