DC Boy, my posts are not towards YOU personally. We differ in opinion and that is the reason why these forums thrive.

I respect your opinion and that is why I like debating with you daily! You will not see gibbs and the likes having anywhere near the same attention, however you will find me debating points with SS57, for example.... another member I respect.

Please do not feel that I am targetting you personally, I am merely debating a point about THFC with you. I am fairly direct and to the point, but I won't berate you or attack you personally.

It's difficult to pin people's attitudes and moods down in text form on the internet.

fair enough Kendall :) I know I'm over sensitive on this -

overall you and others have probably convinced me now we don't need a LB :)

I seriously don't think we need another LB and would rather we concentrated on other areas. I think Bale will definitely be first choice there providing he is fit and then we also have Gunter, Gilberto and BAE.

I am a little surprised that Ramos played O'Hara left back quite a few times so maybe he doesn't have much faith in Gunter there yet. I think Gilb will be better after a full pre season and once he gets more familiar with his team-mates and the language if he doesn't speak it already. I still thnik BAE has good potential, he started off well for us but then lost confidence after a few bad games.

We need to be more patient with these players but usually we are quick to judge especially after a few mistakes are made.

Annoys me when people say Bale is injury prone when he was a victim of 2 awful tackles...

Hi TK - It is interesting, perhaps even scandalous that very little fuss was made about Bale's injuries.

We've lost a key player in peak form for practically a whole season, but there's been very little media outrage over it. Partly, I suspect because the club didn't make much of a fuss. I'm not criticising the club, but can imagine Fergie might have been more vocal for example.

However let's remember that Bale was actually injured 3 times - and I wonder how significant the first injury in the friendly was.

How much the 3 injuries were linked, I don't know, but three injuries in one seaon is worrying.

Yep, take the point - I think I'll go along with the 'no left back needed' camp from now on. I'm still worried, but hey you lot have won your point :)

Bale is not a very good LB. And is far better utilised at LM. Gilberto looks a bit casual and is getting on. Lee was easily the best we had but is as good as gone.

We do need to fill this position but we can probably muddle through this season and prioratise elsewhere for now.

Hopefully by then Birchiche (I still aren't spelling that right am I) who looks really promising from reports, will be ready.

Hi BC :) as you can tell I'm still not really convinced by our LBs - but take the others' points and your implied one that probably we'll have to stick with what we've got and hope someone really turns up trumps - or eventually we buy someone else

I think the opposite as I think he is better playing from deep, he could be a great outlet especially if we change formation. I think alot of the best attacking full-backs over the years have not been great defensively. He is more than good enough for us at LB imo

I'm also of the view that- left back is the least of our worries. Bale is over rated IMO as a full back when comparing tackling/ defending stats against BAE or Lee but as a wing back/winger he has excellent attributes in delivery. BAE Bale Gilberto and Birchich coming through should be enough.
