its almost double the previous record. I think its a bad decision. Yes their keeper had a howler in the CL finals but that happens. Llloris did the same thing in the WC final but did it with a 3 goal lead. They could have upgraded on their current keeper for far less.

That would require a 25 point swing in Liverpool's favour, plus City's goal difference was +33 better. Even in the second half of the season when City appeared "mortal" and Liverpool supposedly fixed their defensive issues by getting in Van Dijk, City still picked up more points.

It's not impossible but I'd say it's very unlikely. I don't think City will hit the 100 point mark again but Guardiola doesn't have the history of "third season syndrome" that Mourinho has whereby title winning sides completely implode. I'd be surprised if they don't get at least 90 points next year, 85 at an absolute minimum. That would require Liverpool to have a 10 point increase on last year - plausible given the money they're throwing around, but at the same time not an easy feat, it would rely on the Salah-Firmino-Mane trio staying fit and as good as they were last season and then some more on top.

They're definitely making statements of intent, but it's important to bear in mind just how much ground they have to make up - they were closer to Burnley pointswise last season.

City probably won't match their points goal next season, but they probably won't be far off it.

I think Allison, TAA, van Dijk, Keita, Mane and Salah would all probably start for our team, although admittedly I'm working with Allison's reputation as a keeper with excellent distribution rather than anything i've observed. Keita is a monster. Would have loved him at Spurs. I'd also argue Fabinho.

For me, in our system, yes - I think he's a more effective wing back if we play 3 at the back. I know Trippier was selected for England over TAA but I personally think he's a superior defender.

I would not argue Fabinho whatsoever and I'd also say no to Allison and TAA (though both have scale to improve way beyond current level, especially TAA).

I'll give you the other four, definitely.

Thanks for the response. I've been really impressed with Fabinho when I've seen him but can also see why others might not think he's all that.

I'm just extremely sceptical about him after the way his midfield partner Bakayoko flopped so badly at Chelsea. Feel they may have just been caught up in a perfect storm similar to Leicester's players who overperformed so massively for a whole season as a result.

I'm probably overdoing it but it's just my hunch.
