I’ve posted a lot on my knowledge of Zaniolo but I don’t watch much of the French League, I’ve seen snippets and he looks like a good player but from someone who knows Paqueta more in depth, how does his style and position compare to Zaniolo and Maddison?
Likewise ive posted a lot on Zaniolo, but for Paqueta ive only seen the youtube highlight reels, a few matches for Brazil and the two games this year against Lyon.

For the people who like the stats analysis of players though, his FBRef makes for very impressive viewing.

He certainly has the benefit of versatility as he would be able to play as the RW in our 3-4-3 formation, as a CM in a potential 3-5-2, as an AM in a 3-4-1-2 and has even played at CF at times.
As a winger, based off statistics, he stylistically compares to a Hakim Ziyech or Marco Reus.
As a midfielder he compares to a Bellingham, De Bruyne and even interestingly Barella.
And as a forward he compares to an Nkunku, Dybala or Griezmann.

The gist of it from the stats is that he's an elite dribbler, a very strong passer and absolutely top tier defensively as one of the best pressing forwards in the top 5 leagues (Which im sure Conte will love). Its not often that you find such an effective flair player like Paqueta that also loves putting in the dirty work. So I wouldnt have much fear of him failing like Ndombele has.

I think I’d prefer Paquetá over Zaniola, but the main question I find my self asking is: What is Paquetá’s mum like?

Having watched only youtube clips of both, but he seems more suited to role we want than Zaniolo. Hes strong like Zaniolo, but not in a bulldozer way like he is. He also seems a bit more cute, with those dinks over the back 4, and some nice through ball. 0-0 vs Brentford after 70mins, I'd rather bring on Paqueta than Zaniolo

Here’s his goals and assists - 3 things that stand out for me:

Both his passing and shooting is controlled
He’s two footed
He’s also decent with his head

I'd imagine we're still making payments to Lyon for Ndombele. In an ideal world we would part exchange him back to Lyon, plus a hefty cash payment on top to get Paqueta. That would really kill two birds with one stone for us.

Both look like good dribblers but Zaniolo looks stronger and quicker. With that said Paqueta looks like he plays with his head up, knows when to release the ball and looks comfortable across the forward line.

Edit: If I had the choice, Paqueta would be my preference. The ITK seems to suggest that Conte prefers Zaniolo however.

Seems to me that some of the links break down in terms of cost/risk quite clearly. Risk as a general term for whether they adapt, injury records etc.

Maddison - Low risk - High fee (plus HG)
Paqueta - Medium risk - Medium fee
Zaniolo - High risk - Low fee

For me it shows the balance of investment is being considered and perhaps reading between the lines on a few things - our moves which seem to be Zaniolo focused, followed by Paqueta based on the ITK, it seems Conte feels Zaniolo is a high risk/high reward scenario and perhaps the price of Maddison (or Leicester's willingness to engage) is too rich for our tastes at the moment.

Personally Paqueta feels a more exciting player than Zaniola.

Seems but more flexible position wise as well.

I will be so happy if we sign him, no transfer is risk free, but i truly think he is a special talent, especially as a number 8. This is my guy, have be watching him since he was 19yr old and one thing i will guarantee, like Richarlison, he wont fail because lack of work ethic, and imo he is way more special than Richarlison as a talent.

Don't understand why people keep saying Zaniolo is high risk. Yes he has had injuries but he played more games than Paqueta last season

I personally feel like Zaniolo would absolutely tear it up in france, from what I’ve seen his power would make it look like men against boys.

I always fear buying players from ligue 1.

because he’s had 2 major injuries, there’s a heightened risk of it happening again and if it does full recovery is put at ‘2 years’. Do we really want a £50m player who’s a ticking time bomb and potentially facing missing 1-2 seasons. If and if one of his knees goes again his value will plummet…

The risk of either of his ACLs going again is actually lower - after successful surgery the knee is stronger than it was previously.

Whilst it is impossible to know for sure, the early numbers being thrown around seem to suggest that both Zaniolo and Paqueta would cost similar amounts.
