It's only one game but it still feels very discouraging if I'm honest.

We need Kulusevski back but the game plan with a group of very capable players still tonight has been so disappointing.

The issue is it isnt just one game. At times we have played well but more often than not we have flattered to deceive. That performance some will say its the players - we lost against a team that had Fred who if you asked you would swap for any of our three midfielders, wont would say no. They didnt have Eriksen nor Martial who is their best striker

Im not gonna get exasperated over this but that was a shockingly bad performance and this whole sitting back business has got to stop. We do need Kulusevski but do we really rely on one player?

I want to caveat this with saying it wasn't anywhere near good enough from the whole team tonight (Hugo aside) but Utd were incredible to a man and really made that home advantage count.

They completely bullied us from the first whistle. They were hungry and we looked tired.

Has any away team has won a top 6 clash this season?

Just an awful watch regardless.

We are so shit easy to defend. No players needed to defend our middle because no playmaker is there to thread any ball from the centre. Hojbjerg and Bentancur will always pass to the side. Just clip our sides and we will suffocate ourselves to death. They can even afford to leave our wingbacks free because their crossings will never reach our front men. Literally they have up to 4 players easily not doing any defensive task and can hit us so quickly on the break.

No variation on our attacks will be our downfall.

Conte should have seen after twenty minutes or so that that sitting back and inviting them on to us was asking for trouble.

Not changing anything at all until late in the game says a lot either about his ability or his faith in the squad we have.

Maybe the 3-5-2 only works when we change midway and the opposition doesn’t have enough time to figure out a way to beat it? Maybe we are just shit.

But that’s the thing, Allardyce and Dyche would prep their players to play physical, press, challenge for every second ball.

we can’t even do that.
I’ve honestly not got a clue what Conte’s plan was tonight. We’ve not pressed. We’ve not really tried to hit them on the break other then once or twice. We’ve sat back and knocked it across our back three and invariably either given away a throw in 20yds from the bye line or hit an aimless ball to Kane with no runners going beyond him.

Nearly 30 shots on our goal is shameful - especially when we’re supposedly set up to control the midfield.

Games like this say so much about Spurs. We’re flat track bullies and not a single one of those players has an ounce of fight in them. When we’re under pressure we wilt. We have a niaive streak in this club a mile wide - the amount of stupid fouls we give away, constantly diving in, trying to play out from the back with a keeper who is so iffy with the ball at his feet it’s untrue. And it doesn’t seem to change regardless who is the manager.

Those having a pop at Conte must be delusional.

We aren't winning the league with fucking Dier, Davies and Doherty at the back.

Holberg is bang average also if we're honest. Conte has us about where we should be, or if anything is over achieving with this squad.
The problem is worse sides with worse players would have put up a tougher test for United tonight. Fully agree that we will not be winning a thing with the likes of the players you mention and anyone that thinks we have a chance is incredibly deluded

An average Utd team had 20+ shots and scored twice before Conte made any changes. People are within their right to have a pop at Conte for that performance.

We genuinely just gave up. Against Arsenal you can somewhat understand because of the red card - but tonight we just threw in the towel and didn't even try anything different.

Feel like there was a lot of fatigue out there. Kane and Son chasing shadows totally outnumbered against their defence. And Hojberg and Bentancour being pressed at every turn. We couldn’t match their intensity. Playing two high level matches per week for the last few weeks without much rotation was gonna catch up with us eventually.

Probably right, but its such a predictable bad watch as a fan.

Are we going into ‘big’ matches with a Do Not Lose attitude?? Are the players scared of losing?? Then it’s too late when we go behind?
I just dunno but that is shocking tonight
Nah. We play stink ball at home as well. Let the opposition get on top seems to be our tactic.
When we were a mid table team and you never knew if we were gonna win, lose or draw, around Santini, Jol time, I never ever watched us and hated how we played. Not once. Some teams were better than us but we'd fight and give everything we had. Some teams were just better than us.
What I'm seeing now (and the last 4 years) is a team trying to be fucking clever and getting egg on their collective faces.
Its so poor and horrible to watch.

Is it possible 3 at the back is just a kind of dated formation now? Nearly every side have very fast full backs which mean you can’t be crazy positive with your wing backs and to counter it all you have to do is out number the middle. Or today playing with a 3 the opposition has just doubled up out wide and meant they’ve always got a passing option. If we weren’t coughing up any clear cut chances then cool, in all these big games the opposition are creating so many chances. Utd have been solid in CB playing a two up against Son and Kane yet we have to play 3 guys and still can’t look solid. It’s pathetic.
I think there is still some validity to the formation and perhaps moreso with our personnel.

I don't trust Dier, Davies, Sanchez as a back 2. Lenglet is an unknown and Romero I haven't really seen to know, but I feel we need 3 to keep thing defensively sound.

Also the wing backs we have are a bit hit and miss - there aren't that many I would guess available.

Our midfield is functional but not creative and that stifles the strikers as well. I think that we need to be identifying signings in January which is notoriously difficult but we need some creativity in the middle or look at whether Kulu can play behind the front 2 or 3.
