Jol is a mid table manager - I'd say when we finished 5th the top 6/7 was nowhere near as good as it is now. I liked him and we had some good times (for the time) but we ALWAYS used to lose to the Sky 4 and we had a habit of letting in injury time winners / equaliszers ! My favourite moment under Jol was when he 'butted' Wenger. I don't think Fulham are going to have a good season by the way things are going for them so far.

It would be interesting to what Jol could've achieved with this currant squad, and what Redknapp could do with the 05/06/07 team.

We'll never know.

Harry has more experience, is he better? I'm not sure, if the opinions about him being better is based on his time with us, I would say that when he came in, he inherited one of the best squads that we've had for a while.

How well would he have done with what Jol had?

Some staggering comments about Jol in here.

Funny how some managers will never get the plaudits and it's always the players.

Unbelievable.

Martin Jol created the run we have been on since 2004. We owe him a great deal for putting us back on the European map.

We overachieved with the squad we had for that first season. We were terrific. And some of the football we played - especially against the big boys - was tremendous. Yes, we had the odd blip. But didn't we lose to Wigan and Wolves at home last year?

I dislike anyone that has a bad word to say about Jol, because, before that time, could any of you actually give me the name of a manager that made the squad of their time play to its potential? Because you'd really struggle to name one after Venables.

Genuinely unbelievable.

Not always .

We even beat Man Utd at Old Trafford fair and square according to everyone except Clattenburg and Sky .

What amuses me is that the same people who are ready to diss Jol now were calling for Harry's head 2 matches into this season . It appears that as far as SC members are concerned a manager is only as good as his last half dozen games .

How often before Jol arrived did Spurs have anything left to play for by mid february other than maybe top flight survival .

Yes he did, but where were they in the league?

I've got a feeling Harry will only get the credit he deserves once he has gone,
i for one think he has done a fabulous job, i don't think he is a master tactition, but he puts teams together and handles big personalities.

well done 'arry

Stoof, myself and you very rarely disagree about many things, but I have to say I think personally (just my take on it) that what you have written is a far too romantic view on what actually happened under Jol. We achieved very well when we finished 5th, but in a scenario that was more criminal than what happened last season. We didn't.

We then upgraded significantly with Berbatov, but we only finished 5th the second season because him and Keane dragged our arse over the finish line in the final 9 games or whatever it was.

The league was unbelievably poor when we finished 5th during Lasagne gate.

I realise this now means you don't like me as I said something negative about Jol, but hopefully we can work through it by agreeing that Pav is shit?

I think the first 5th under Jol is the only season in recent years where we can say we over achieved.

Really?

It was a monumental day, but we then went into freefall, lost our two best strikers in the following months, and the competition is now so devalued that not even Championship clubs put out their strongest teams in it. Us beating Chelsea in the final should have put the competition back on the map.

Yep 100% i believe he added something to where we are now. spurs 5 Scum 1 then one down V bluescum to win 2-1 at Wembly... King lifts a cup with Robbie Keane dangling off the other handle... and you're saying that doesn't have a long lasting affects?

A psycological impact on the players and the fans which shouldn't be underrated.

Foot of the table but i don't think he's the only manager who could have got us higher up the table.

I give him credit certainly but I just think he came to us at a good time. Jol lost Carrick and Berbatov, Has gained VDV, Modric and Sandro, Jol would have loved players like this at his disposal. We've been crying out for these kind of players for years.

 i did .....especially when young boys scored their 3rd..
It was an over achievement from there and being rather behind in Italy too but great fun as it was I'm not sure of what some of the form adds up to.

Your choice of words 'gained' shows you give him little credit...he has put this team together, not gained it.

I don't want to slag off Jol, he done a fine job, but i would never have him back.

Mate which ever way you say it ,it adds up to what i'm trying to say.
before the CL started, very few fans would have honestly expected us to get to the last 8....so that in itself is overachieving me thinks.
Hope and expectation, are 2 different things.
