Maybe the Mido deal collapsing meant we could no longer afford Petrov?

Either way, not very bothered. I trust the board fully!

This will prove another lucky escape, much like a certain Damien last summer.

Analyse this: City only paid £4.7m and Petrov chose City. This basically means; 1) he's cheap because of an implied risk (too old, too injured, too shite), 2) nobody else wanted him because of #1.

It smells of Damien Duff pt2, so good on Spurs for giving him a wide berth. Maybe Berba told BMJ & DC "He's a good player but not as good as me, and as such not the quality Spurs need".

why are people STILL believeing he chose city of us?! whose to say we even put in a bid? if we had we would have got him - its as simple as in my book.

they've probably realised he's a 28yr old with a dodgy knee and that there are better prospects out there. who? i dont know but thats what scouts are paid for.

Taarabt is gonna rip up the premiership this season. If he's given the left side I'm well happy with that.

That's fucking ludicrous. And a huge pile of steaming bollocks.

Sorry, but you're way off.

Insiders say we had a bid accepted and he was booked in for a medical with us. City offered him double apparently.

I'm sorry, but he wasn't the guy to break the bank with. I think he's made a serious error in judgment, where he could link up with his International buddy with us. I don't see City finishing top 10 - and what does that say about attitude?

Seriously. Where's the ambition? Bent turned down double what we pay him to play for us, (and West Ham will probably finish above City next year) - so just take a step back and look at that.

I'm also aware I'm spinning this terribly in our favour, but I still hold the belief we'll come good with a lil' beauty.

*hunts for straws*

We've signed two left sided players...Gareth Bale & Danny Rose. Bale will either play left side of midfield or left wing back and Rose will break through like Lennon did..from the bench. We even have Taarabt & Routledge to fill in...what's all the fuss!?! :snooty:

Gareth Bale is a full back.
Danny Rose will go into our academy team and may get into the reserves.
Taarabt and Routledge cannot go past their man on the left and put in a cross with their left foot. On current form Routledge can't even do that on the right.

The fuss is about getting an option into the team where we can have some width and get crosses coming into the penalty area from both sides of the pitch.

Why did Petrov choose City over a side with Europe and Berbatov? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say he saw one last payday as he career draws to a close, and they offered him more than we did.

JOL SHATTERED AS SVEN STEALS PETROV

By John Cross 27/07/2007

BULGARIAN leftwinger Martin Petrov insists his decision to join Manchester City is nothing to do with money - even after snubbing Dimitar Berbatov's plea for him to join Tottenham. Spurs boss Martin Jol was confident of getting the 28-year-old as compatriot Berbatov had appeared to talk the £4.7million Atletico Madrid winger into moving to White Hart Lane.

But City boss Sven Goran Eriksson gazumped Tottenham's offer and Petrov decided to snub Spurs even though they are chasing Champions League football next season.

Petrov, who has signed a £55,000-a-week deal with City, which is way above what he was offered in Tottenham's pay structure, said: "My choice is not only about money but football questions too.

"Simply, I need to play and I believe I would get more minutes for City than Tottenham.

"I did speak with Berbatov and he tried to convince me to join Tottenham but our ways will be different in England. He is a friend but has accepted my decision.

"Eriksson is ambitious and City is a very attractive challenge for me and I believe we will be successful. I am fit after my injury problems, I am strong and I think my style will suit the English game."

Eriksson, who has already spent £17m of new owner Thaksin Shinawatra's hefty transfer kitty, will now move to make Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini his next buy before turning his attention towards Nantes midfielder Emerse Fae and Olympiakos striker Nery Castillo.

Sven said: "Players want to play for a club with ambition and since the takeover we have been showing that."

More minutes at citeh????? Obviously he saw the abundance of LW at WHL and made an educated decision that was in no way effected by his monster wages.

Petrov and Berba are very very good friends. They phone each other alot, they've been friends ever since they started playing together in CSKA Sofia. In the national team, they've formed a great understanding.
Berba would often "drag" 1-2 defenders with him, leaving open spaces for the speedy gonzales with quite a powerful kick.

Spurs would benefit big time from having them both in the team. The possibility that Berba leaves spurs then, would be veeery low.

However, Petrov himself hasn't stated anything about a possible spurs move. He likes it in Atletico. Sadly, because of this huge injury, he couldn't shine there.

When recently linked with spurs and man city, his manger said he knew nothing about that.

DID YOU RING THE CLUB AND TELL THEM THIS INFO. ARE YOU TO BLAME FOR THIS PRICELESS INFO NOT GETTING TO COMMOLLI. IF HE HAD KNOWN THIS WE WOULD HAVE PAID 80,000 A WEEK I AM SURE!!!! SHAME ON YOU
